Liam getting involved is beyond pathetic.
On the contrary. Very smart on Liam's part to vocally differentiate himself from Noel on this--smart on multiple levels.
Bravo.

Unfortunately for Noel, when you hang around with Tory scum and journalists from the Scum, and pally with the likes of Evgeny Lebedev and other Conservative establishment squares, then your judgement is going to be skewed. I mean, just take a look at that cabal. Rock n roll star, you're having a fucking laugh. If Morrissey is now the Nigel Farage of rock, Noel's turned into the David Walliams of rock. Yeah someone brought politics into it again. Boris and Trump apparently lives rent free in many heads.

Some real "love this new Ricky Gervais special, so offensive, not for the snowflakes 🤣🤣🤣" vibes in this thread, which is a shame because I thought most of those people were busy worrying about their receding hairlines and impending divorces on Facebook.

I'm old. full head of hair and happily married and never use FB.
I don't even really find Ricky funny mostly - I think Steve Marchent was prob the brains behind the office!
The thing here is about how anyone has the right to take offense at anything, but by doing so they don't have the right to demand someone else stop saying (or doing) whatever it is that offends them, as long as that thing they're doing or saying is not against the law.
That's it really. And it just gets really boring when the offended bang on about it over and over.

99% of the time I hear the words "offence/offended/offensive", it's being used by people irritated by the suggestion that lazy jokes about minorities aren't as funny as they were back when the Berlin Wall was standing. No-one is pissing their pants in offended rage at Noel's comments and demanding he go to prison for saying them. That's a defence-mechanism fantasy. They're just disappointed he's fallen into serving the tired reheated version of the worst of yesteryear's comedy, like Ricky Gervais has. It's not some imaginary army of "offended snowflakes", it's just the normal majority of people who moved past this type of humour decades ago and realise that the only real place it has anymore is for crusty yer-das to wank over as weapons in their tragic culture war.

Well, congratulations on avoiding almost all of the points I just made. It's okay, though; even when stuck between your own set of moved goalposts, you're still wrong. First off, there's no evidence to support Ricky being "literally" the most popular stand-up comedian in the world, other than the fevered wank-dreams of middle-aged men. He doesn't sell the most tickets, get the most streams, earn the most money, and certainly doesn't get the highest-scoring reviews from audiences. I don't think he's even in the top thirty for that, in fact, which I'm almost surprised by. In any case, the point is moot; the standards of normal social convention are not decided by stand-up comedy, which is one of the least-popular forms of culture compared to it's direct rivals on streaming services and across the internet. The most popular forms, television and film, have long-since evolved past that kind of lazy humour and are much better for it. So, I'll say it again: - The vast majority of the time, the only people "banging on about offended/offensive" are those annoyed at the idea that lazy jokes about minorities aren't as funny as they were when Nokia was the trendiest brand of phone. - There is no "woke brigade" coming to arrest you for making tired jokes like Noel and Ricky. No-one is suggesting Noel be banned from saying the things he did; people are just disappointed that, like Ricky, Noel has fallen into the stale, old-bloke humour that yes, most people who don't call it "the wireless" have stopped being titillated by. A lot of people who still giggle at jokes like Noel's or Ricky's do like to claim that it's not about minorities, it's about their love of "dark, offensive comedy". In this thread alone, you've got the usual "Christ, snowflakes, don't watch Ricky Gervais stuff, you'll melt from all his dark hardcore edgy offensive humour!!"Next time, just check how much of that love extends to the dark comedy that comes from minorities. Because I've seen transgender comedians who write comedy about the darkness of their experience which is more hardcore and offensive than anything Ricky Gervais could dream of in a million years. It's not just tired, "haha, I identify as a insert-silly-thing-here" jokes stolen from a porn forum in 2013, it's genuinely dark. And funnily enough, you'll find that the dark-comedy-loving, hardcore, are-you-offended-yet crowd tend not to be too into it. It's almost as if the "dark, offensive" humour they actually like is just stale jokes about minorities being regurgitated to satisfy their culture-war stance. Laughing at black people and "the gaze" has gone past being normal even for them for the most part, but there's still transgenders and disabled people, eh? Well, as long as you're not a permanently-offended, woke, thought-police, soy-boy, SJW, that is!!!1!!!!!1 People aren't disappointed with Noel because he's "offended" them, it's because he's made himself look like an out-of-touch dick using his platform/lifestyle to act the prat and tell anecdotes fresh out of 1978. No-one is trying to ban him. No-one is "triggered". We just think he sounds like a twat.

Liam's apology seems very weird to me. He can slam or urge Noel to apologize, but apologizing for him is strange because it's completely not his fault. Now he seems to use this chance to prove he's the better Gallagher, great strategy to improve his image compared to the past I would say. Does anyone think in recent years Liam have a better image than when his solo career started? Now he seems to talk nicely and do more interviews (pr strategy or he really learnt a lesson? I don't know). I can't remember clearly but there were bad press about he and Debbie several years ago. Finally, have Matt ever considered to check and edit these episodes before posting? They are being targeted. They are being targeted?

Well, I think thanks to this backlash we won’t be getting any new podcasts with Noel any time soon, possibly ever. A real shame to be honest, his interviews with Matt were better than anywhere else.

You speak as if they aren’t responsible for the backlash. If they never record another podcast again they have only themselves to blame.

Yep. The path out is easy and obvious. You can wait for the subject to change, which it will, but the bad taste will linger. Better to address it now before it comes up during your album promo. (Erasing things doesn’t work either in 2022.)

In a lot of ways, I feel like Noel has never really adjusted to being in a position of power. If I'm an asshole on a podcast about people with less privilege than me, no one's going to care, because I'm nobody, and nobody would listen to my podcast. If I'm an asshole to disabled people at a concert, hopefully the security will see me out, and that would be the end of it.
A lot of the time, it seems like Noel still thinks he's that guy whose actions don't matter, the mouthy kid on the dole with a chip on his shoulder. The problem is that he isn't. He's incredibly wealthy, very famous, and someone that people listen to (for better or worse). When he's an asshole by his actions or his words, the potential hurt is much, much greater than anything comparable that I could do or say.
As a dude said one time, with great power comes great responsibility. I think Noel would do well to take that to heart. Grow up, man.
