The police are to investigate number 10 lockdown parties. I should bloody well think so as well.

So my colleague took a selftest yesterday morning and it came back negative. So I sat next to her to discuss things. Later in the afternoon she texts me with a screenshot of another selftest she had just taken. Positive.
So now I'm in quarantine until Sunday because I haven't gotten the booster yet. Which makes absolutely no sense to me, because you can spread it AND get it even with the booster. My colleague is a good example.
In the meanwhile this is also the first day for the Netherlands out of lockdown, but it feels like I'm still in. Except I can't actually go anywhere now. Major bummer. Was finally getting a haircut this Saturday.

One of my friends has it right now and he's had his booster. So did another friend and my colleague. It's just super contagious.

Cases are going up again in the UK and in the meantime what does Boris Johnson and his useless government do? Relax the plan b rules. Absolutely stupid.

Face masks have been mandatory in Scotland the entire time and we still had record numbers, they make next to no difference.
Everyone who wants to has had the opportunity to get vaccinated and boosted, if we can't get on with things now then we'll never be able to.

Nah, this is bad info. Masks are not perfect by any means (and humans do weird things with them) but they make a real difference and we know that now. The problem is that Omicron is much more infectious so masks need to be of higher quality (not flimsy cloth or surgical masks but KN95s) and be used consistently to work. For those who canβt or donβt want to get Covid-19 β and there are good reasons for bothβa mask is still one of the most effective tools in the arsenal. That's the bottom line. Itβs still mandated here in LA indoors and I spent the day today at meetings and a screening, masked the whole time. It is so not any big deal at all, it still amazes me that people are so freaked about it. Commerce can go on just the same. As soon as infections rates are lower Iβm sure the restrictions here will come off, which Is great, but until then we're still getting on with it all the same. Yeah, Covid's here to stay but living with it doesn't mean doing nothing at all. A virus isn't a static thing and Covid in particular has shown a penchant for changing rapidly. Hopefully things stay good now, but we know immunity is not that long lasting (whether by vaccine or infection) and the world needs to be prepared for the possibility of future waves and stronger strains. They hopefully won't come but nobody knows. Literally nobody. What we do know is there are ways to reduce unnecessary deaths if they do pop up. Masks are one of those ways β and they may be needed at times as things play out so demonizing them only harms people. They are the most minor of inconveniences in all but a few cases. And for some people β including those with cancer, lung disease, diabetes or just parents who donβt want their kids to get a novel virus we donβt fully understand-- they remain a good thing now.

Sorry should probably have been clearer, as you alluded to in your first paragaph I was more meaning the masks that 99% of the general public wear, ie the pretty patterned pieces of cloth/rubbish ill fitting cheap ones that live in people's pockets until they need to use them again.

So Boris Johnson has said that the government will publish everything that they can about their parties in Downing Street. Yeah right and I bet they won't publish the whole findings of the report. The public have the right to know.

I see that Boris Johnson and his party pals have all been sent letters from the police about their lockdown parties. Good, however, they can't get out of it by lying.

Many clubs and venues have opened their door all night long last night despite they're allowed to open until 10 PM and one of them will receive a fine of 10,000 Euro. If they could have waited for a week...

Covid restrictions will be lifted from next week Friday over here. No need to show a QR code, no masks in a shop, no 1,5 metre distance from each other, full capacity for sport matches, no restriction for an open air events including festivals, working from home will be no needed, no maximum amounts of the guests at home. Wearring a mask in a public transport, airport and on a plane will remain and everyone must take a rapid test (not selftest) for an event with more than 500 capacity even if you're fully vaccinated with a booster.

So Boris Johnson has finally sent his letter to the police about his partying during lockdown and still says that he didn't do anything wrong. Really? He's taking the piss.

Masks in public transport will remain until March 15. Hopefully that will be lifted then. I'm very glad everything is open again and that life will finally be more normal again. I'm (positively) surprised I didn't slide back into depression during the last couple of lockdowns and glad I can make plans for the future again. Hope it will stay that way.
