A good first two steps. Arabesque reminds me of “Yes” and even “Daylight”. Mostly because it’s so different to everything else in the Coldplay canon just like those tunes are. Sax crimes in progress. The ending reminds me of the climax of Paul McCartney’s “Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five”. A little “Tusk” by Fleetwood Mac too. The last minute or so anyways for both. Been a long time since the band was this bold or risk taking. Orphans is a straight up stadium anthem that will be sung by 50,000 people each night. You can already picture it. Sounds like an evolution of the better parts of AHFOD. I am torn if I want to hear anymore songs prior to release date. I’m sure another hype song will drop the week prior or something. I bought the vinyl edition. #CallMeDaddy

Will says that the title track is his favourite song off the album.

Really like this picture. I'm with you. It really has that old Coldplay vibe to it; like a combination of the aesthetics of Parachutes and the aesthetics of Viva.

Hopefully the mods combine, no reason for two threads.

So are Coldplay finally over their CBeebies looking, CGI dancing chimp, overly colourful phase? If they're back to making decent mature music, i'll check it out.

Post-Britpop. Sometimes I wonder where Coldplay would have beeen today if Chris Martin would have never come in to replace Andy Samberg.

I don't know what's going on with this thread, but Coldplay are the best pop band of the 21st century. Thanks.

That's because there hasn't been any good pop bands in the 21st century.

The first coldplay album sucks and it only gets worse from there.

The first coldplay album sucks and it only gets worse from there. Sorry but you’re wrong. If you’re an Oasis fan, Coldplay should register with their melodic skills and life affirming tunes. If you can’t recognise that, you’re not a music fan. Half joking of course, but the way peak Chris Martin can weave a melody into a tune is immense. But lately he does need his band to restrain him from the worst excesses though.

I know you said 'half joking', but what the fucking fuck. I dislike coldplay because of the whiny voice and a complete jump in genre from what I listen to. Music is subjective and I have every right to listen to the music I like, that doesn't make me stupid, narrow minded, or not a fan of music. I like rock, I've tried listening to pop, rap, and other genres. Nothing else encapsulates how I feel and what I wanna hear. That was an ignorant comment, it's like saying if you don't like Avengers you hate movies.

That was an ignorant comment, it's like saying if you don't like Avengers you hate movies. But it’s not a jump in genres. Noel would kill to have written some of Coldplay’s songs, Liam’s poppier elements are in debt to the same genre and style, it’s all wrapped up in the alternative rock mode where the melody and tune is front and centre of the music. Oasis are as pop as the best of them, the songs are merely dressed in rock style.
