I made a new "Best Of Coldplay" playlist today, including Everyday Life. This is the albums ranked on how many songs got in: 1. Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (8) 2. Mylo Xyloto (5) 3. A Rush of Blood to the Head (4) 4. Everyday Life (4) 5. Ghost Stories (3) 6. Parachutes (3) 7. X&Y (3) 8. A Head Full of Dreams (2) Honestly pretty identical to my usual rankings. Could have added another twenty, to be honest, already feel bad about songs like Square One, Amsterdam, Don't Let it Break You Heart, and O (Fly On) not being on there. Chris just did a live stream on Instagram. Played a couple tunes on piano. Things of note. - Coldplay have a brand new song he’s not allowed to talk about that they hope to release soon. - He said they finally completed “Us Against The World” and will one day get it out. - Someone asked him to play “UFO”. He said he has two songs titled that. The unreleased one is much much better. - His favorite song to play is “O”.

Their Tiny Desk performance dropped today, too. Tracklist:
1. Cry Cry Cry 2. Viva la Vida 3. BrokEn 4. 1999 (Cover) 5. Champion of the World
Viva sounds great with the gospel choir, and there's a real emotional heart to this version of Champion of the World.

X&Y still stands as my favourite Coldplay record. Maybe it's just a familiarity thing as it was played a lot in my home growing up but the heavier instrumentation and spacey synths do a lot for me. I don't there's a bad track on there personally however my least favourite stuff all appears on the second half. Some of the tracks are overly long as is the record as a whole (62 minutes is a bit much for my taste) but with a little rethink I think it could've been excellent. Regardless here's how I rank the tracks:
13. Twisted Logic 12. Swallowed In the Sea 11. Til Kingdom Come 10. Low 9. The Hardest Part 8. A Message 7. What If 6. X&Y 5. Fix You 4. White Shadows 3. Speed of Sound 2. Talk 1. Square One

Square One White Shadow Fix You Speed of Sound Talk A Message Low Til Kingdom Come I’d have liked songs like “Things I Don’t Understand” and “Sleeping Sun” to have made the proper album over the songs I omitted from my favs. While waiting 3 years for X&Y I totally thought songs like “Ladder To The Sun”, “Pour Me”, “Marianne” and “Solid Ground” were gonna make up the core of the next LP. As of today, 17 years later only “Pour Me” has surfaced as a live b-side. #JusticeForLadder

The biggest problem with X&Y, apart from the bloated tracklist, are Chris' smug, messianic lyrics. Almost every song seems to follow the concept of "I, Chris(t) Martin, the relatable rock-star, shall heal you, the troubled listener". Which is a problem when your insight into overcoming depression only goes as deep as lines like "You see no meaning to your life. You should try.".

The rock sound, how it eases into the chorus and hangs in the air until the chorus hits, the organ at the end and Chris's soaring vocals. It all progresses & opens up beautifully as it goes along. I think that might be their best execution of the "space rock" sound that defined this era and it's a shame that it doesn't get more recognition from the band.

They were working a terrific space rock vibe during this period. The album gets shit on plenty but “Speed of Sound” and “Fix You” were pretty massive singles in America that spring and summer. Reminds me of good times. I loved all of 2005. Top to bottom. Left to right.

Well Coldplay have a gig this coming weekend and things are coming to a head quickly. They've heavily teased "Music of The Spheres" on Instagram by posting videos that spell out the title of their next "project" over the last 2 weeks.
Strong bet "The Race" drops this Friday and maybe even album news. Yes I know "The Race" leaked back in July but we aren't sure from what sessions. Could be Ghost or AHFOD.
This guy pretty much sums up what has been happening since November.

I was reading over the Head Full of Dreams thread, which might be the best thread on the forum. It is worth the lengthy re-read if anyone has the time.
Alot of time has passed and Everyday Life was a solid return to form that I could've never had fathomed. I'm glad I can say I'm looking forward to LP9, hope it isn't another step backwards!

Music of the Spheres is a fantastic title.
Seem to be strong hints that old songs will be getting a new treatment soon, too, I wonder if that is for this or some sort of separate entity.
