Liam is at his best when he’s singing good songs. The best examples of this are all by someone else so I really don’t care who is writing Liam’s song. He’s a showman.

It blows my mind how many people are bothered about who wrote his songs, who GIVES a fuck, it makes no difference as long as it’s good and Liam is singing it. I really pity people (several of which are in this thread) who can’t bear to separate the writer from the performer, it’s pathetic psychological bullshit. If it genuinely bothers you then take a long hard look at yourself and maybe you’ll realise how unimportant it is. If who wrote a song affects how you feel about a song, then you’re a music fan for all the wrong reasons. You crack on Liam, keep banging them out no matter who writes them, because realistically it makes no difference. Ignore literally anyone who says otherwise. Imagine being like “oh this song is great!” then “oh wait, Liam didn’t write it, I like it less now” 😂 insanity.

Has it ever crossed you minds that maybe someone may believe that a album heavier with Liam inputs would also be of better quality? Because I thought WMWN was mediocre, and I'm afraid to tell you my opinion was formed while listening to the record, not while flicking through the writing credits

We’ve heard him sing Gem’s songs to very mixed success. We’ve heard him sing his own songs to very mixed success. We don’t need that anymore. Sure Liam can write a solid tune every once and awhile but it usually takes him a very long time to work through a song or idea, examples are Songbird and I’m Outta Time. Can Liam really write 12-15 quality songs for an album cycle? That’s hard to do. It’s hard for Noel to do. It’s hard for anyone to do. Writing good material is hard. Liam is a great singer and frontman first and foremost. However he gets it done is fine by me as long as it’s good!!!!

It makes a difference when the music has no credibility, he literally sung "when the lights go down on Broadway". Does it sound like Liam Gallagher? I don't think so He's putting albums with his name on the front, I'd expect a lot of involvement in the making because he's a good songwriter But if he chooses the easy way,the pop star way, good for him. It will definitely work because the fan base is loyal and it hasn't high expectations.

How do you know he’s been able to write much of quality? I don’t know what brings you to the conclusion he can shit out gold nuggets on his guitar with any regularity. The very best struggle with that let alone Liam.

Liam’s best Oasis songs are:
Songbird Born On A Different Cloud Guess God Thinks I’m Abel I’m Outta Time Soldier On Boy With The Blues
That is over an 8 year period. I just don’t see Liam spitting out even more material like that in a 2 year window for an album.

I just don’t see Liam spitting out even more material like that in a 2 year window for an album. No one is saying he should write an album on his own, although that'd be an interesting experiment but don't think he has the patience nor the craftmanship to pull it off and make it good What I'm saying is I'd like to hear less of the likes Chinatown or Paper Crown or Alright Now where, despite his voice, it just doesn't sound anything like Liam at all, and it lacks credibility when he's singing some of those lines Instead, I'd like to hear more of his inputs being put into songs, I'd like him to come up with melodies and lyrics throughout the album and then have someone help him give those bits and pieces a proper shape and some kind of developement The arguement's not "if the singer's not writing it then it's not good", the arguement is some of the stuff sounds incredibly middle of the road and manufactured and trying so hard to be "what Liam should sound like" and I believe that's at least partially because of the creative process and path they've chosen Again, my opinion, that's it

Who knows, if Bob Dylan can do a decade writing little of quality I assume anyone can. Ashcroft hasn’t done much for years either. Two professional songwriters and you have big expectations of a part timer.

Fair or unfair, Liam was seen as a joke between 2010 and when his debut dropped in 2017. Now he’s got three #1 albums and 2 massive fucking Knebworth dates next summer. Somebody take a heat check on William because he’s on fire at the moment.

Liam having 2-3 songs on the album that are completely written on its own - rest been co-written and worked out with other people. No news at all and no problem with that if the finished songs sounding alright.
To be honest I'd welcome if they did a few tunes that sound a little "different" and having not the typical sound. But also not surprised if Liam aint having him this sort of stuff and is not that open on changing the direction.
Greg Kurstin not gonna be involved this time?

Enjoyed the podcast although I don't know how people are taking so much from it about Liam album. Wyatt literally says nothing about it except Liam doesn't have any influences post The La's and just regurgitates Lennon, which I'm sure even Liam would agree with, and he has been trying to introduce him to more modern songwriting influences.

It's funny: it's maybe one of my fav LG moment ever. But I am a Elvis fan, I dont care who writes what. If Iike the tune who cares.

I haven't listened to the podcast so I can't comment but who really cares about who wrote the songs? It doesn't matter as long as the album sells and it will. If (and we don't know for sure) Wyatt has written the whole album then so what I don't care. Liam will take the song and make it his own anyway.

- This is more personal, but I'm not a huge fan of Wyatt's songwriting, to use a euphemism Would've preferred various songwriting partnerships and then a sole producer to bring it all together Again, as it seems to be something that needs to be clarified, these are just my thoughts I'm aware Liam is probably happy this way and will sell a shitload of records and I can just go and listen to something else in my collection and my opinion doesn't hold any kind of meaning It's just that I like to discuss stuff and despite not loving the direction I still have an interest in what Liam comes up with If you don't like Wyatt, no worries at all. (Coldplay gets discussed an awful lot around here and I'm not very into them, which ultimately comes down to personal taste. But I also know some get immense meaning in their lives from Coldplay and that's cool, too.) My point in my post, as it seems to be something that needs clarifying, is that we already knew Wyatt was involved in the album and have known from the first recording sessions even before the summer festivals and the whole resurgence of the LG resurgence. All that happened in the podcast was Wyatt talked about trying to move Liam into some newer areas, something I find pretty interesting just from a human relations as well as a musical POV, but it's not significant news about the record. Nothing changed. And somehow that has been turned into "Wyatt wrote every note and word on the record (something he never said) and it sounds inauthentic (something no one knows)" 7 months before the album is due. What amuses me even more, actually, is just weeks ago there was a kerfuffle that a 16-second phone-recorded LG clip "sounded like Beady Eye" ... which seems to be the opposite worry of inauthentic Liam. But the imagination is a powerful thing, and hey, at least it's it's less boring to wait when there's stuff to discuss. Roll on May 2022 ...

Would have been far less excited if Wyatt came out and said he's just aiming to do exactly what was done on the last record because hey, it was a hit and it clearly ain't broke. Like what Wyatt does or not, that he’s not satisfied yet and seeking to progress the sound at this moment when Liam is cresting a giant wave is very cool – and also, getting back to the authenticity question, in line with at least a part of who Liam is. (There is always that tension in Liam between sticking loyally to what he's always been known for and wanting to aim for greatness in the here and now, but if Wyatt has a hankering to take the risk of trying to tie those together and Liam is up for that ride, I hope they succeed.)
