Is he really as whipped by Warner as people on here express? Liam: I'm gonna make a proper The Stooges album next. Mad rockin'. Warner: We can not allow you to do that Liam. Now go into that booth and try to get us another mainstream ballad hit. Liam But... Warner. Do. You. Know. What. We. Mean? Liam: ... yeah... *walks without any swagger to the singing booth* I’m not saying he’s completely whipped, but we didn’t really get this did we? “I’d love to do a proper out-and-out punk rock album – a bit Pistols, a bit Stooges.” Even if it’s not a full album of punk songs, a sprinkling of Headshrinkers wouldn’t hurt his next album in my opinion. I’m not a fan of his solo ballads at all, I much prefer the rockier and more uptempo tunes. X Totally with you there mate. I just think I would prefer that type of album...WMWN is ace but a rockier album would be better for the next one if warner allow it IMO.

As I posted in another thread -- have one of the dudes from Black Keys produce (and play on) the next album. Give it that garagy vibe. In 2011 I'd have loved that idea or Danger Mouse (since he produced the Keys). However, I've soured on the idea because after 8-9 years of hearing their production I've gotten burned out by it. Its good but its always the same production vibes. I'd personally like to see those guys evolve more or try different techniques.

He wants to do what sells, so if Warner convince him this is the route to popularity he will listen. I don't think for a second he is doing anything against his will. Not to say that Warner don’t have influence but does WMWN sound like anything other than a record he would like to put out?

It’s also the hardest type of music for a 46 year old to put out. How punk was Noel’s writing after the very early years?

Not at all. That's what I mean, he wouldn't do it if he didn't like it, but at the same time he won't fight to do something less commercial out of some artistic vision.

I’m talking more stuff in the vein of Greedy Soul. He doesn’t need to write them as he’s using other writers. Get Josh Homme in like the Arctic Monkeys did, or someone else who is a rock rather than a pop writer. I’m sure Dave Grohl would love to give him a tune for example. And what’s Noel got to do with it? Noel openly says he’s not interested in making rock music now he’s older, but Liam is saying right now he would like to do more punk music. I’m agreeing with him. Liam has one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll voices of our generation, I think it is a bit wasted on pop and soft rock songs. X

X I heard a Liam quote over the summer about WMWN on Sirius XM. He said the album was "Sex Pistols and Lennon's Cold Turkey" because it was currently missing from today's musical landscape. Now I don't really hear either of those influences on the album but whatever. Thats the spirit of Liam even if he's not actually producing music that sounds like those songs/bands.

That is a very heavy Lennon song.

X He is using writers but as his recent comments show he’s sending them material, it’s hard for writers to do a punk song if what they’ve received is no where near that. If the alternative to that is a punk album he has no input in I’ll pass. Not saying Noel now, Noel 10 years ago, Noel 15 years ago. Don’t get uptight I wasn’t criticising him. You can use Weller for an example too if you like. It’s just the feeling that really, punk is a young persons game.

Its like who the fuck stole Oasis' guitar anthems post 2000? Everything from then on out was very measured and calculated.

Since going solo, he’s expressed a desire to make an out-and-out “punk” record and though neither album has delivered on that wish, he says the next one may very well be the one. “I’ve got that kind of attitude where it’s like I always start off going ‘let’s fookin’ make a proper punk rock record’ but as soon as we get in there and we have a tune that sounds like ‘Once’, you go ‘nah, nah, fook it, let’s carry on with this, this is a mega tune’, know what I mean? “So, one day I’m going to stick to my guns and just go ‘look, let’s make a proper, full-on, foot to the floor, no ballads’. It’s got to have big choruses, it’s gotta be like the Pistols. I don’t want to make some shitty little punk record like these so-called punks do today.” “Double track all the rhythm guitars, double track the fookin’ lot so it sound like the Pistols meets ABBA.,” he laughs. tonedeaf.thebrag.com/liam-gallagher-tone-deaf-interview/
