I still need to have more listen to this album as I've got this album 2 weeks ago and my deluxe book set from official store is yet to arrive at my door. I've already got the CD, Down By The River limited edition double orange vinyl.
So anybody still up to talk about this NEW album of Liam Gallagher on this thread?

I am still young but Spotify is not for me. I understand and respect why many people use it but at this point I'm not having it. I still love to buy CDs but I admit that it's getting a bit difficult now that some electronics markets have started to eliminate CDs from their product range. I don't doubt nowadays charts but unless we're talking about how well any Oasis/Gallagher-related music is received, I can't even bother to look them up. I understand not wanting to use Spotify too. Some day I'll buy a record player and start collecting old vinyls from flea markets. Im quite young (25) and totally embrace both. When Im at home its mostly the record player for me, got about 300 records and often play LPs rather than watch TV at night. I also record & film vinyl on my phone to post on Youtube. But when Im out; well I remember the days of having a cassette (and then CD) walkman, and I sure prefer streaming on my phone to that.

I'm from a pro-digital era. I still buy CD's and LP's. I don't listen to music on my phone. I only listen to music on spotify while I'm working on my desk. I don't want to only "listen" to music, but want to feel it too. To me picking up a new release in my local record shop on a release day is a pure joy.

That's true and older rock bands will always score high on the charts and sometimes even get to number one. It's a horrible thought if the charts were just based on streams. Yeah #1 albums are still tough, as its hard to beat the billions of streams some young acts get. But top 3 albums are, if anything, easier for older acts than they used to be. However, it does also mean the albums will enter at their peak and likely only last 3 or 4 weeks on the chart. Also plenty of older acts will be at #1 in midweek due to physical pre-orders, then fall to #2 or #3 as they’re overtaken by streams. A recent example this year was Tears for Fears, who ultimately reached #2 after being top in midweek. However given the sales decline, I totally believe CYK wouldve reached #1 even without the Knebworth pre-sale thing. Maybe not sold as many, but probably still about 45-50k. His audience is still big enough. I don't really follow the charts these days and am only interested when the Gallagher's have new releases. But yeah, you're right older acts can enter the charts at number one or have a high chart placing in the mid week charts and then fall down the charts again. And, I agree that Liam would have still reached number one without the Knebworth thing because he still has a strong fan base.

MSP would've never hit #1 on the album charts for the second time(the first in like two decades) without their loyal fan base buying their new record. But, yeah rock albums enter high and then fall hard after a few weeks. True, you still need a loyal and strong fan base to get to number one and you're right that rock albums enter the charts high and then fall hard a few weeks later.

Hey, not bad! COYK is #2 on the Hungarian top 40, Thames came in at #8. That's pretty good, considering that AYW was #16, WMWN was #2 and I think the MTV Unplugged was maybe #5 but that was released on its own. Nice work!

Find myself skipping tracks now the initial Hurrah has died down. Still a good album - All the less usual Liam sounding songs are still hitting for me. Diamonds and Joker are hitting the mark immensely
On a side note....this made me laugh

Can anybody confirm the Japanese bonus tracks LG released so far? 1. As You Were (For What It's Worth, Greedy Sould & Paper Crown at Air Studios) 2. MTV Unplugged (Greedy Soul) 3. C'mon You Know (Too Good For Giving Up (Alternate Version)) and that's it, correct? So no Japanese-only bonus tracks for: Acoustic Sessions, Down By The River Thames & Why Me. Why Not?

Yep that's right. Always found it strange there were no WMWN bonus tracks, but that's the lot.

Now the freshness is gone I'm listening another time on my record player. While I like tracks like Diamond In the Dark or Don't Go Halway, I wish they had some louder guitars on it. Live version of DITD is beefed up, should've been on the album that way.

C'mon you know got to no. 12 in the Austrian Album Charts and Down by the River Thames is no. 35. That's peak Liam for us:
As you were no. 12
Why me? Why not no. 15
MTV Unplugged no. 19
Not bad at all!
BTW, I even saw advertising for the album in the bus!

After a few days of consideration here's where things stand for me:
DM: 5/5 WTSMG: 5/5 BHN: 4/5 SOTSOG: 4/5 HC: 3/5 DBTT: 4/5 DOYS: 3,5/5
DGSS: 3,5/5 BE: 4/5
NGHFB: 3,5/5 CY: 4/5 WBTM: 3,5/5
AYW: 4/5 WMWN: 4/5 CYN: 4/5
As for CYN, quite solid album. DITD and BD are my favorite songs and while there are a few subpar tunes most of the album is excellent.

A couple of weeks in, and COYK has really grown on me. My first listen, I've got to admit I was a bit underwhelmed, but also maybe a bit confused. It definitely wasn't what I was expecting. But after sitting with it and giving it more time, it's really growing on me. There's some curious choices for sure, but I'm happy to hear LG on some new sounds, more modern sounds. He can always bang out big rock bangers, that's always a card he can keep up his sleeve, but it's nice to hear something that sounds more on the fresh side. I've been playing it around the house, my 21 year old niece who's staying with us even asked "That's the guy from Oasis? It sounds like something newer." So that's a good thing.
That said, regarding the talk about the charts, as exciting as it is to see LG hit #1 (Noel as well), it's fairly remarkable, and not too common, for heritage acts to maintain this level of success in the charts and in the cultural zeitgeist. Pop music is a young person's game, and #1s are harder to come by the older an artist gets. Even if there's a drop off in sales (there always is when you're older, as your fan base by and large is what it is at this point), I love seeing their name in the top of the charts.

Down to #4 on the UK Album Chart. DBTRT is down to #34. Likely the seventh and last week on the Singles Chart for Everything’s Electric at #92.

Despite my best efforts, even the title track is growing on me now.
I still think it would be much better if the vocal take was handled differently, but in the context of the album the song does work

It has grown on me slightly but i must say after the first week i don’t find myself looking to listen to it

If anything, that's the best compliment someone who's been around as long as Liam could have. It'd be very easy for him to not try to appeal at least a bit to younger people but the thing is it's arguably thanks to younger people being interested that he is what he is at the moment. He blurs the line between current/heritage act in the sense that he's been around for many many years but he has an incredibly strong younger following and they're helping him to sustain
