I’ve got this song in a little playlist on my phone and I like to listen to it while I work but if I’m near my phone I’m finding myself hitting the magical skip button when this is the place comes on. Probably should just delete it from the playlist thinking about it.

I'm sorry, but you were obviously incorrect. You said that Fantano "disregards hip-hop and female artists", and I'll be honest, I think you probably know that isn't true at this point, which is why we have this post that both ignores the statement and then attempts to hang my scorn for it as a dismissal of completely different points. It is one of the most ridiculous takes I've seen on this forum, though, so I think your abandoning it is pretty wise. And, of course, it isn't my place to tell a black man what's insensitive or not, but I don't think that video does much to further the view that Fantano's reviews have any racial biases. Do you think people listen to Future for his lyrics? It seems pretty obvious to me that his music is meant to be about vibe, atmosphere, and creating emotion through sound, rather than someone like Black Thought who is focused almost entirely on his lyrics. I don't think it's a dog-whistle to recognise that, it's just understanding the type of music you're listening to. Similarly strange to me is that idea that Fantano only likes a certain type of black album, namely intellectualised, lyrical-miracle types that aren't abrasive. He gave ASTROWORLD, a black, trap-flavoured, non-lyrical album a positive review, while at the same time giving frequent lower scores to the lyrical mastermind himself, J Cole. Denzel Curry is a black, trap-influenced, abrasive, and non-lyrical rapper, and Fantano has given almost all his projects positive reviews. Meanwhile, Busdriver, a black hyper-lyrical rapper, got a red-flannel 5/10 on his last project. I mean, maybe you're right that he doesn't have any great love for trap music. Maybe he does prefer rap that is lyrics-based, or genre-pushing. But he still reviews trap thoroughly, explains his point of view, and gives his honest opinion, and does the same for the music he might have a natural preference for. I don't think any of that is enough to hang accusations of racial bias on the man. I will say, though, that you're right about his past of mixing with horrible anti-SJW internet types. If he was still talking with Sargon of Akkad, or appearing in "Questions for Feminists" videos, I wouldn't watch his content. Thankfully, he has said he regrets being part of those things, and recently has become a lot more progressive, appearing on leftist female podcast Angie Speaks, having conversations with trans-female leftist Contrapoints, and making fun of Ben Shapiro pretty regularly, which is always nice to see. And as for him being a critic who follows the trends and doesn't give any unexpected scores...well: And yet you go on for a whole paragraph doing exactly that. Fantano is the strangest of intellectual hills to die on. So your response to his thorough counterarguments is basically "why do you care so much?" But maybe that's the way people debate upon the intellectual hills where you reside. And on the point of caring too much, I watch Fantano once or twice a week, I like him but I'm not a passionate fan. However, when someone makes the ridiculous claim that he's using racist dogwhistling in that Future review, one "evidence" being him saying that people don't listen to Future because of the lyrics, then I will speak up.

Yes, come to the Black person and say that the dog whistle they're hearing is ridiculous. Y'all are special. It takes a lot of privilege to say, "I'll speak up" for another privilege white guy against the Black person criticizing them. Maybe the less ridiculous premise, and pretty simple one by the way, is that you guys don't come from a cultural background that allows you to hear dog whistles and that's why they're called dog whistles? But no, that wouldn't be the case. Anyways, I've moved on from this conversation because with each response it becomes fairly apparent that this isn't going anywhere and each person has dug in, and I'm not going to keep on taking up forum space.

That example was ridiculous. Criticizing someone for being a bad lyricist has NOTHING to do with race, end of story. Sure, "speak up" was a slightly cringey choice of words, I'll give you that. "Anyways, I've moved on from this conversation because with each response it becomes fairly apparent that this isn't going anywhere" Can't argue with that.

I feel like he is trying to have a chemical brothers/fatboy Slim moment but it falls flat.
Would love to hear this with someone else singing it but regardless the production is not at the level it should be. I respect him trying to do it but hes just not good enough with this sound in my opinion. Its not horrible but it's not great.
Anyone else miss Chasing Yesterday? Love that album

Nothing special imo, 4/10. I love experiments, but this one is souless. It's like a poor version of Oasis Prodigy/Chemical Brothers remix

Tried to listen to it again, but I find Noel's voice on that track nerve-wrecking. It just does not fit. And normally I'm all up for his new direction, but this one is just horrible, gives me headaches.

A few more listens....
I actually do like the verses, but the chorus is a massive let down. The chorus feels so disjointed and disconnected from the verses specifically, but to the overall sound generally as well. Maybe it’s the key? I don’t know. But I don’t like it.
Welcome to Noel’s midlife crisis.

And what the fuck is it with the pointing up in the air like some geezer with a headband on playing his tennis racquet-as-a-guitar in the mirror. There’s something not authentic about it all to me.

Got a certificate to prove it too. Put all the emojis you want after re quoting me but it isn’t authentic when for years and years he just stood there on stage playing. Now it’s all gone a bit Kajagoogoo. Listen, I love Noel and I only want what’s best for him.

I don't mind the pointing-at-the-sky. It's a bit cheesy, but I like the confidence of it. What's disgraceful is taking such a hypnotic track and just sticking the band in front of a green screen for generic "random-stock-footage-is-psychedelic!!" nonsense. If more than twenty second's thought went into it, I'd be shocked.

I just can’t get fired up about music videos anymore. It’s a drop in the bucket. YouTube is over saturated with band videos. Nobody wants a guy in his early 50s in a video.

Let's be honest here: 99% of the users wouldn't care about the tune if they didn't know that it's from Noel. 4/10. Better than expected. Solid base for a remix. This guy just sits hating on the Noel forum. Cheer up, stop hating yourself and spend some time with your family instead of hating.

I like the song, but watching the video I noticed for the first time that lovely background melody that starts at 0:49, can't get enough of that now! What instrument is that, first I thought it's a piano, but it's not, is it? And, sorry, Noel and Ysee, but now I'd like to have an instrumental version, just for that part.

I hate how the video is emphasising Noels moves cutting back from the mic and screwing his face up like he's chewing a lemon on the high notes. Like they're trying to brand him. It used to be cool but now it's cheesy as fukc. The turtle neck and necklace aren't helping. They should've just kept it to the clips and animations and let the band have a day off.
