I quite like the verse but the rest is meh
BSD was way better imo

This is a solid 7 from me. Nothing mind-blowing, but damn well better than anything I was expecting after the BSD EP was rather disappointing. Plus, This Is the Place proves Noel can write a good dance song without the help of David Holmes. Not a bad showing from Noel at all this round.

Let's be honest here: 99% of the users wouldn't care about the tune if they didn't know that it's from Noel.

I never thought I'd want Uptown Funk crossed with an old Hacienda song, sung by Noel Gallagher, and here I am being proved right.
Seriously, if Noel wanted to go all-in on the change of direction then he should've had Ysee sing it.

7/10. Not liking dance music much but Noel manages to make something exciting, with some good ideas so it's not just dance music.

5. Not for me, but harmless enough. If it popped up on a playlist at a bit of a gathering it wouldn’t be out of place, but it would blend into the night anonymously and be quickly forgotten.

4. Not horrific but completely bland and I didn't remember anything about it after I heard it. At least BSD was somewhat memorable.

I just don't like Noel's voice, he sounds like he has no teeth left. If I were him, I would make those extended play records my side projects with lot of guest appearances. I understand that some songs are so personal and he wants to sing them and I also want to hear him when he is singing some acoustic ballad, but songs like this should be sung by someone else.

Personally, I like it when bands I know try new stuff, it's an easy way to broaden my horizons without leaving my home turf, so to speak. And of course familiarity factors in when I'm listening to music; I wouldn't follow some young and upcoming band that just release Shockwave, but I still appreciate it coming from Liam. Also, I don't think this song is THAT different from his previous solo outings. What a Life and Ballad of the Mighty I, Fort Knox, now This is the Place, they all seem to have the same energy and basic vibe to me. |

This is the first song from the EPs that I've really liked. Very much an ear worm and I can see most people's ratings rising in the next couple of days.
Edit: It sounds very much like early Foals.

He should have been doing stuff like this years ago.
Best thing he's released since The Right Stuff, solid 8 from me.

mmm I quite like it. It could have been a good album opener like Fort Knox.
A lot of groove but I lacks of melody.
Not as good as anything on WBTMin my opinion.

Not for me. I like dance music, but other people do it much better. No amount of bells and whistles can cover up what is ultimately another poor song.
