How can Lock All The Doors be considered Dadrock when it was written before the release of Definitely Maybe? Because it was recorded by a middle-aged man who hadn't made a genuinely rocking song in over a decade. The song-writing of the track is fine, it just needed to be recorded by the five young lads who first played it. Rocking song? What does that even mean

Way better than BSD; a nice groove, not too far from removed from he has always done on tracks going back to Part of the Queue.... The baseline and production are great.
I guess in fan forums of any artist there's always a bunch of folks who seem bitter that the artist is no longer the same person they were in their younger heyday. The best performers evolve with their age. Dylan made great albums in the 90's because he was no longer trying to be the young Dylan, writing differently, etc....
Judging Noel from this perspective, its a mixed bag. He generally shouldn't and doesn't try to "rock" like a youngster. But BSD, while not terrible, is a bit annoying because its The Old Dude Doing Disco! And it has zero attempt to have a meaning or anything beyond the groove. Rattling Rose is more like the type of song I would hope he would make. But people complaining he doesn't rock, its a bit silly. When the Stones albums rock (A bigger...), it sounds forced.
My biggest compliant is that when Noel was younger, he wrote lyrics about his world and aspirations, etc.... I'd like to hear him write some real songs about how he views things now...........

It isnt a bad song at all but its just shit that you know hes got so many better.
He's just obsessed by this concept of having to do other types of music to try and prove hes such a diverse songwriter.
Stick to what you're good at noel. You're doing far more harm than good.

Im not a great fan of WBTM etc but.....I dunno, hearing that, I just respect him and am happy for him to be doing something he loves. He is his own person. even Liam said that he doesnt owe the fans anything and tbh he doesnt. If he wants to grow and change then thats life. the same thing is going on with the blink 182 fanbase and tom delonge, they can't seem to accept that hes now in his 40s and has different interests.

I reckon he'd probably just shoot back how many songs has anyone on here written? He's already said he doesn't give a fuck what the fans want or think they want. If people dig it, cool. If not, then that's fine too. They're just songs. Rattling Rose isn't really different to anything on Chasing Yesterday anyway. It's a good song but it sounds more like you'd expect an NG song to sound than anything post-2015.

Agreed here. Though your last comment. I'm not really sure he could write about what his world is now and it be relatable. DM always will be relatable. Same to an extent with WTSMG. But BHN suffered hugely - lyrics wise - because how can anyone possibly relate to being in the biggest band in the world unless, well, you're in the biggest band in the world. Not really sure how Noel could write a song on his current life given he's worth multi-millions etc? That being said, It's A Beautiful World is a bit of a comment on the current outlook in life. Also, I always thought Noel's ability to just get emotion from the abstract things in life is worth more than storytelling. I don't think he's a storyteller in songs, and pretty sure he'd be of the same opinion. Compare him to someone like Kelly Jones (who as far as under-appreciated songwriters go is way up there!) and he's much more of a storyteller. Even Alex Turner - before cocaine took it's toll on the last album - has always been a storyteller type of writer. Noel never has been.

Oh I dont doubt for a second that Noel would shoot me down instantly for ever questioning this new found exploration of 70s pop thats all been done alot better before. If he wants to keep creating more silence and piss breaks at his gigs then so be it. I just think its a waste for my favourite songwriter to not be putting out his abolsue best songs. Fuck whether it shows evolution as an artist. By all means if they're good songs, make them whatever the genre. But just make sure the song comes first. For someone who has this theory that songs drop out the sky and you don't go looking for them, I find it strange that him and David Holmes physically get out old CDs and go looking for riffs they can steal.

The thing is though, Noel very much does care about things like album sales and his appeal. Do you really buy that bullshit that he doesn't care at all? At the minute, his set is becoming more and more comprised of the "new sounding" songs and the ticket sales and venues will only get smaller. He won't like that, especially if Liam is still playing huge gigs. Do you really think returning to Sardy is anything other than hes looking at it thinking my albums with Sardy = sales? It certainly isn't because of some great, edgy production that he says hes after now. It's alright being stubborn and continuing to make this kind of music but the songs just aren't good enough. Drawing in big crowds will always mean playing Oasis songs. We can all sit here and talk about artist progression and all this shit but at the end of the day it's about middle aged men being pissed up wanting to hear the classics. Not Rattling Rose sending everyone to sleep.

Why the fuck would Noel Gallagher (or any songwriter for that matter) sit down and write a song and then think "shit, the fans might not like this, I'll not bother" Was he thinking of his fans when he wrote live forever? Was he fuck, most of us hadn't been born yet

Now he's gone solo & playing smaller venues he's relieved he needs no longer worry about that.

Mucky Fingers and Part Of The Queue were hardly fan favourites were they? Lyla went to number 1 and remained in the set until they finished.

Was he fuck, most of us hadn't been born yet I'm not saying he should write just for us. But hes a walking contradiction. Don't claim songs fall out the sky or you're taking advice from Weller that you need to let the songs come to you when you are sat with CDs listening for riffs to steal. Likewise dont have a concept of what you want all you're album to sound like before you've written the songs. It's just ending up with mediocre crap thats only redeeming features are the shit that's stolen. He's better than what hes putting out now. And hes losing fans big time.

I wouldn't say he's losing fans, but what we've heard off this upcoming album is sketchy at best.

You're assuming he's trying to evolve. Everything he's said goes against that. He's just working a slightly different way to what he has before and is making music the way he wants to. He's got every right to do that, as has Liam. I also don't know how many gigs you've been to on this tour, but if you'd been to any from about June onwards last year and any this year, you'd know that it's not at all like how you describe. The songs work brilliantly live, and are elevated by the quality of the band, all members of which are obviously really into it and enjoying themselves. He hasn't worked with Holmes now in nye on 3 years, by the sounds of it, barring maybe a few weeks in the studio in Jan. None of these new tracks were worked on with Holmes as far as we know.

I wouldn't say he's losing fans, but what we've heard off this upcoming album is sketchy at best. There is no upcoming album, so yeh, any details of that would be sketchy. FWIW, by the sounds of it, each EP could have a bit of a different tweak to it.

It was digged up at the end of the main DBTT recording sessions and used. It was written way before 2005.

It really is amazing. They recorded with Death In Vegas, then just themselves and later in America with Sardy. At the end of all of that they were still short on songs. Lyla, Importance Of Being Idle and Let There Be Love have nothing to do with this sessions. The big singles in particular. This record could have been far far worse. The claim that DBTT was some great artistic rival is overstated. It was still the same old post 2000 Oasis. Couple good tunes but overall uneven results on the full length LP.

"She got the soul of a bird She got a heart of gold"
If you took Noel's most generic lyrics of the High Flying Birds-era and put them all in a blender, this is what you would end up with. He hasn't been a great lyricist(consistently) since WTSMG, but I really wish he'd sometimes try harder.

Im either getting the song mixed up with another one or I dreamt the lot of it......probably the latter.

TSOTL was definitely written during that process and Noel knew straight away it was gonna be a single. DBTT... Let There Be Love wasn't gonna be on there until Sardy convinced Noel that the album needed it/an anthem. Lyla was definitely a demo that they had knocking about. Pretty certain that the instrumental of the Noel-sung version (demo) is exactly the one used in the full recording too. They literally just put Liam's vocals on top and a few more guitars.
