It definitely feels like a time in Noel's life/career where he's actively wanting to get as much done as possible. For all his bravado in his youth, he probably knows that he needs to get as much done in these next 5 years as possible. He pulls off a 51-year-old frontman well, but it can't last for long haha. Hopefully we're at a new creative peak for him. The joy in WBTM suggests that could be the case. I wonder if Liam's success has given Noel a kick up the arse and a new energy. I have to say I look forward to this kind of tour and possibly an acoustic-based record more than another Holmes record. Largely because if he is sat down, he isn't doing his dance routine thing. It’s my understanding that whatever the touring album becomes it was completed recording wise in November. He has since begun Holmes sessions. We shall see what happens in May. It’s all interesting because posting that note about new material was done with a purpose. Not to mention the songs will be captured and uploaded to YouTube and other sites. Usually not roads Noel likes to travel prior to unleashing material officially.

The NME article on this says that he's recording in London & LA. And that it's gonna be an 11 piece band, as he's had on tour. Interesting to go with that line up but promote it as sit down shows. The link is goes to the thread again and not the nme website

If Noel releases an album this year, as it looks like he will, it'll be his 3rd album in 5 years (Chasing Yesterday was only released in 2015). That would be his most prolific stretch since the early days of Oasis where DM, WTSMG, and BHN were released in 4 years.
To put that in perspective, it took Oasis 9 years to release the same amount of material as Noel is now.

Fair do's on the first bit, think it may be the case. But honestly, I love the new Noel. I've said it plenty of times, but by mid-summer last year (so the end of his tour) he was on fire, the band were on fire and I've never seen Noel as joyous. He looked like a proper frontman and it was ace, imo.

I'd rather he just drops an album in mid-April without a peep about it until the day. I'll buy it either way. He would never ever ever do that. Would be amazing but this is a Gallagher. Not their way. He kind of/sort of did this with the first solo album in a way by announcing the second AA album at the same time (first anyone had heard of that). However, we never got to hear that, so point taken .

He wants to talk with Gaz backstage about how to make his records sound half decent. Who Built the Moon? is the worst sounding vinyl I own (including my 60s records that were recorded for mono and then converted to stereo quickly and clumsily).
On a less cynical tone, I like that Noel’s doing something a bit different. That old school, 6 month album rollout was getting to be a real drag.

I imagine David Bowie doing what he did truly inspired Noel... seeing as Bowie did so much before his death. Yikes.

Let’s not pop the champagne just yet. He hasn’t announced or released anything. It’s just gigs at the moment.

New material is welcomed but I’m not at all excited by a prospect of an album without Holmes. Everything that Noel has done post-2000 - barring the excellent Who Built The Moon - sounds very clunky and turgid and unadventurous.
I don’t have faith in him doing an album without someone at the helm really pushing him sonically.

I don’t have faith in him doing an album without someone at the helm really pushing him sonically. Maybe. Nevertheless it seems to me that working with Holmes intrinsically changed something in Noel's approach to music. Even if this material they're referring to does not involve Holmes, it will involve the band to a greater extent. Namely Charlotte and Ysée. Now, Charlotte is a little indie box of surprises and Ysée brings a huge background of knowledge. She understands African music, she is able to build the bridge given the chance. It's up to Noel to be open enough to let the work and influences flow, I'd think he's more open to this than ever before.

I hope this touring band album actually happens and comes out this summer (I guess). We’ve all been let down before (DIV, AA).

It would be pretty adventurous. 3 years ago who would expect a NGHFB album to feature Ysee, Le Volume Courbe, and a member of the Kindness? Although I am not sure this will be an album but maybe a single or EP to promote.

Well he said he was going back in the studio with Holmes in January, and the latest update is he's in the studio working on tracks. So, it's logic to assume that the tracks are being worked on with Holmes, no? That being said, I can't see any of those tracks been ready to go by May...

While The Song Remains the Same is probably the best song he's released since 2000, and IMO Who Built the Moon sounds like an album where he decided he didn't actually need to finish the songs if they had "interesting" production

The songs don't have the staying power and all around, I feel are weaker. It's a fun album. It's a good album, but the fact remains I moved past it very quickly. 3 weeks tops I think. The best thing about the album is just that it sounds different from his norm. But you're right, the songs probably aren't finished.
She Taught Me How To Fly, for example. I think it's a good song. It's my favorite on the album. The chorus is amazing. But the versus? Needed a ton of work. The song is too long and too repetitive. He could have improved it simply by putting more work into different lyrics in the verses.

Imagine thinking songs like If Love is the Law, Holy Mountain, The Man Who Built the Moon, Black & White Sunshine, Be Careful What You Wish For, Fort Knox etc. didn't "sound finished."
I'd like to know what people mean by "don't sound finished" because it feels like that term is always thrown around in lieu of "that song doesn't progress the way I want it to progress." Because believe me, the above songs "sound finished." The above songs have progressions. They have fine instrumentation. They aren't missing any glaring components; like maybe one song needed a bridge and doesn't have it or a song lacks variation in its voicings and instrumentation.
Not trying to be directly critical of anyone, but I'd like some to hone what they mean by "don't sound finished" because that complaint usually sounds, I guess...too simple of a critique imo.

I agree. I don't like that term song doesn't sound finished. It's thrown around all the time. In reality it seems like it's a nice way of saying I don't like the song. To me the only Gallagher song that seems unfinished to me is Idlers Dream because it sounds like a great intro to a seven minute epic.

Yeah I'd say 'doesnt sound finished' is a kind way of saying it is shit, which I'd agree with. I don't think the production was any better than Chasing Yesterday, and the best song TMWBTM would have fit on there fine. He doesnt need Holmes to tell him what to do, he's Noel fucking Gallagher.

Who Built The Moon? is still a very good listen after nearly two years. I understand the criticism about songs not being finished. Because a couple are very repetitive, like Keep on Reaching and She Taught Me. Those two needed a variation of some kind. The rest is good as it is.
Still, i feel like it's one song short of being perfect.
I still love the first record and still cant really appreciate Chasing Yesterday. Even though songs are "finished" on this one. Worst album he's released, Oasis included. Feels like an album he "had" to do to fill the long gap. Like a weird collection of unused songs that dont really fit together.

The same Noel Gallagher who stripped away anything interesting about The Mexican, gave it some boring production, and then added the line, "They say that you need love/Just like a kid on crack"? Yea, I'd say that one needs someone to tell him what to do.

To live in a world where Noel is impervious to someone telling him what to do, is to live in a world where Heathen Chemistry doesn't exist.
Which, in that case, you'd be better off than the rest of us.
