People still blaming Sardy when the one he was involved with from the start actually sounds good Its easier I suppose. Also, even if you want to 100% blame Sardy for the sound of the other albums, the fact is Noel was his boss! Noel signed off on those albums. Noel also directed Sardy in what he wanted. One of the reasons he binned the AA album is because it was too quiet FFS (read: in reality it had dynamic range and wasn’t brickwalled to fook). Noel definitely has to take the majority of the blame/responsibility in my opinion. X Yeah, the brickwalling thing can be annoying as hell. I wonder if that is, at least partially, the reasons why some songs sound better live... You can actually hear the instruments and not some muddled wall of sound!

In an ideal world I'd like a stripped-back acoustic album (which I'm sure Sardy would be able to produce) and a better go at an album with Holmes as well. The best of both worlds.

The point isn't that Sardy wrecks albums, it's that he will do absolutely nothing to stop Noel wrecking his own. Tbf to Sardy it’s probably difficult to tell Tim to do something he doesn’t want to.

Why all this hate for Dave Sardy? We have ears. Don't you? Listening to Dave Sardy's mixes makes it feel like you don't have ears because you can't hear a goddamn thing.

True and I definitely agree, but a producer should also have an element of creative control and push the artistic direction of an album. *Reads Dave Sardy’s CV - highlights include Jet and Catfish & The Bottlemen *Proceeds to put loaded shotgun in mouth

Dave Sardy? Haha, what a dud, what a coward! Back to impotent middle aged paunchy pub rock for Noel. In the meantime, I’m off out the door! Couldn’t give a flying fuck about this. Surely this will just be the NGHFB touring band album? The sessions for that were done in November. Noel's said loads of times that he is planning to make an album with Holmes, and also that those sessions would start in January.

I think it most likely he recorded with the full band in London in Nov and he’s now been out in LA with Sardy to do overdubs/mix/etc. X

Even WBTM doesn’t sound that great in parts. On a good sound system Holy Mountain sounds really muffled. Like the musicians were in a different room to the mics recording them! X I think that's on purpose. The rest of the record sound vastly different. I think they wanted to recreate a muddy sound, a lo-fi kind of 70s music, to give a bit of strengh because the melody is very light and almost childish. I noticed tunes with a brass section often tend to have a muddier, fattier sound. Maybe they need to add that to drums and guitar so they can be heard next to the brass, that have a very round sound.

Noel needs to give up his dream of making his stuff sound like it was recorded with Phil Spector at the desk. Listen to all of his Britpop peers’ records—Damon Albarn, Thom Yorke and Radiohead, Gaz Coombes, and so on—their stuff all sounds so much better than Noel’s, whichever way you choose to listen to it. If he is intent on becoming an “artist” finally, he needs to learn how to make his stuff sound half decent.

Sad thing is we know we wouldn’t have heard anything as ambitious sounding as Man Who Built The Moon on previous non-Holmes records. Who Built The Moon is the only album Noel sounds epic and ambitious.
No chance of that happening with The King of Turgidness Mr Sardy (yes I know Noel is to blame too but Sardy’s CV is full to the brim of woeful acts).
