As of now, 'Yer Blues' is my favourite Beatles song.
Scintillating Lennon vocals, great drumming from Ringo. The most ragged they ever sounded on record. Wow.

Listened to that track about ten times today. It's just what I needed for the mood I've been in.
Not saying that I want to kill myself, or even that I'm lonely; I just needed something primal and howling, and yet also swaggering, to give me a kick up the arse today.

The new mix for 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' is out.
Wasn't sure at first. The clarity of everything threw me. I got to thinking, 'Is it too clear?'
But then I went back to the old version and realised that all the stuff I hadn't noticed before--the piano still playing once the songs starts proper, and Macca's mad warbling at the end--was there to be heard all along: I just hadn't noticed it before, because the mix was so murky, and probably because I'm not a very astute listener.
I love how Giles and his team get vocals to sound on these new mixes. Can't wait to hear what they've done with 'Happiness Is a Warm Gun'. It's a bit shit that all the backing vocals are packed into one channel on that song currently. Being a bit less clumsy sonically will do that wonderful song a lot of good, I think.

One thing that’s a touch disappointing about this package: why no remixed ‘Revolution’? It could do with one. Lennon complained about the guts having been taken out of the song when he heard the stereo mix again, sometime in the 70s.
I get not including ‘Lady Madonna’ and ‘Hey Jude’, as their new mixes featured on the reissued 1, but ‘Revolution’ (and ‘The Inner Light’, for that matter) could still do with a spruce up.

Looking forward to giving this whole thing a listen. I think my current White Album playlist stands at 19 tracks, maybe a big listen to both discs with new mixing will shake that up a bit.

I wonder whether you'll replace 'Good Night' with this alternative take Giles Matin has talked about, with the four of them harmonising around a microphone to Lennon's fingerpicking guitar. Both Giles and a journo for Rolling Stone have said they prefer it to the one on the album. That sounds like something you'd do. ....

Just about my favorite Beatles Album, just pipping Revolver for that honor. It's definitely flawed but it's shining moment's always out weigh it's lowest, which aren't that many to be fair. If I would cut it down to a single album it be like this for me.
1. Back In The U.S.S.R 2. Dear Prudence 3. Glass Onion 4. While My Guitar Gently Weeps 5. Happiness Is A Warm Gun 6. I'm So Tired 7. Blackbird 8. Julia 9. Birthday 10. Yer Blues 11. Mother's Nature Son 12. Sexy Sadie 13. Helter Skelter 14. Cry Baby Cry 15. Revolution 1 16. Long Long Long
McCartney's Honey Pie, Rocky Roccoon and Martha My Dear, never did anything for me. Good songs. Ob La Di On La Da always puts a smile on my face. I Will is nice but wouldn't fit onto the single White Album for me. Lennon's Revolution 9 is horrible, stick that art rubbish on another album. Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey is fine. The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill is okay as well. But both feel like filler for me. Harrison's Piggies and Savoy Truffle, I wonder had he written any of those wonderful songs from All Things Must Pass album yet that he could have replaced those two fillers with. Ringo's Don't Pass Me by isn't awful but it's meh for me.
Shame Lennon hadn't written the lyrics for Jealous Guy for this wonderful tune written during the White Album Period.

The White Album as a single LP? "I'm not a great one for that, y'know,'Maybe it was too many of that...'. It was great. It sold. It's the bloody Beatles' White Album! Shut up!"

Not a demo (John didn't have the song yet by the time they met up at Esher), but a discarded take. 'Cause, you know, The Beatles didn't rehearse anything; whoever had written the song showed it to the others and then they started rolling, and the arrangements could change as they went along. www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/beatles-unheard-white-album-exclusive-first-listen-727928/

Definitely worth picking this up for the demo's alone, especially Child of Nature. I think I have this album in three different versions, the old CD version, the remastered one of that box set they released a few years back and on Vinyl. I'd pick up again just for different studio takes and demos.

Honestly not a hipster comment but Pepper wouldn’t even be in my top 5 Beatles album if you counted the MMT extended EP (with Strawberry Fields etc)
1.Revolver 2.White Album 3.Abbey Road 4.Rubber Soul 5.Magical Mystery Tour 6.Sgt Pepper

November 9, November 9, November 9 You said the White Album is your favourite album. But have you ever found it within yourself to like 'Revolution 9'? I've gotta say, it's grown on me ever so slightly. Parts of it I like. And, having read Ian MacDonald's brilliant book Revolution in the Head, I think I know what Lennon was at least trying to do. MacDonald says something about the piece predicting the way our brains would become like in the information age, like internet browsers with a hundred tabs open. Going back to Lennon's finished piece, you can hear that, with the random shit--some funny, some silly, and some downright unsettling--rising to the surface and then disappearing again, all fighting for your attention.

I agree - The White Album, Revolver and Abbey Road are much better than Pepper. November 9, November 9, November 9 You said the White Album is your favourite album. But have you ever found it within yourself to like 'Revolution 9'?... I quite like Revolution 9 - you have to listen to it quite a few times and after a while the "random" nature of the sound actually becomes familiar and you start anticipating what's coming next. I could almost "sing along" - or perhaps "talk along" is a better term - to it. It starts to take on a familiar shape like a musical song does. It's great in the headphones and I love the "sinister" nature of. I don't think it's as random as people think. Alot of thought obviously went into what elements were used and when.

Okay, let's all take some deep breaths and calm down. I was pretty calm when I wrote this That doesn't mean I don't like Pepper. It has my second favourite Beatles song it, "A Day In The Life" and a few great songs. But except for that, the best songs on The White Album are stronger than the best songs on Pepper, for me. Dear Prudence is in my top 10, then add to it Back In The USSR, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Julia, I'm So Tired, Cry Baby Cry, Happiness Is A Warm Gun, Sexy Sadie, Blackbird, Helter Shelter, Yer Blues, etc. On Pepper, I rarely listen to any tracks from Mr.Kite (included) until A Day In The Life.
