"Stone love: she kneels before the grave: A brave son who gave his life to save the slogan That hovers between the headstone and her eyes-- For they penetrate her grieving." David Bowie, for 'Soul Love'
(Don't fully know what this means. It just sounds good and reads well).

"Don't you have anything better to do? I wish that someone could hug you. Must be lonely being angry, feeling overlooked. And you sit alone at home in the darkness, With all the pent up rage that you harness. I'm really sorry 'bout whatever happened to you." Courtney Barnett, for 'Nameless, Faceless'

"Oh, it's so funny to be seeing you after so long, girl. And, with the way you look, I understand that you were not impressed. But I heard you let that little friend of mine take off your party dress. I'm not gonna get too sentimental, like those other sticky valentines, 'Cause I don't know if you are loving somebody: I only know it isn't mine." Elvis Costello, for 'Alison'

The trouble with your brother, he's always sleeping with your mother. And I know that your sister missed her time again this month. Am I talking too fast or are you just playing dumb? If you want I can write it down.

Listening to The Beatles' 'Day Tripper' for the first time since the creation of this thread, I'm struck by the ambiguity of the opening verse:
"Got a good reason for taking the easy way out. Got a good reason for taking the easy way out now." -Lennon/McCartney
An alluring opening to a song...

"There's something in the way she moves Or looks my way, or calls my name That seems to leave this troubled world behind"
The lyrics are very straightforward and maybe not that clever, but combined with the melody it is a perfect opening to a song. And if those first words seem familiar, George Harrison once heard it and asked if he could use them in a song of his own. Not a bad song either, that one.
