The opening soundtrack to every internet or public house political debate involving a combination of misguided, sincere and trolling individuals

It's funny you saying about Oliver's Army being an unintentionally perfect soundtrack to internet bickering. I was thinking about The Jam's 'Start!' the other day, and how it's a perfect summary of social media and other forms of internet 'connectivity'.

...People talking to strangers so that they can feel connected to the world and people. (Hi, I'm theyknowwhatimean. Pleased to meet you, guigsysEstring.  )

...Same as above: people are driven online because they feel lonely, or like they're missing out on something, in their own lives in the real world.

...That thing of once something is said on the internet there is a record of it there forever, even if you try and delete it.

...The internet is a breeding ground for hate.

...If you read and talk about mindless crap, and participate in spreading silly memes about, all day long, you can't complain if your culture seems to become increasingly infantilised. 



I wonder what other lyrics from late 70s/early 80s alternative pop songs could be applied to 21st Century western society as it appears in the 2010s...
