I keep seeing the opinion that Noel has turned into a dick over the last couple years. So I’m putting to a poll.
I disagree.
Firstly, Noel has always been a dick. Secondly, he’s no different to how he’s been over the last decade. I love his charm and story telling. Could listen to the geezer all day.
He does need to lose the shades though.
This is the man who gave us Holy Mountain. Show some respect, ffs.

I think the whole 'Noel has become a dick' thing started to escalate when he didn't show up for the One Love Manchester concert. It cemented the notion in many people's minds that he's forgotten where he came from, that he's betrayed his roots.
Oasis and the Gallagher Brothers represented the anti-establishment, 'underdogs who've made it against all odds' cause. I don't think Noel's become a dick - I think it's the opposite, he's now too aware of his media image. He has become the establishment he once was so outspoken against.
To fans, this might seem like a betrayal - Oasis was supposed to be 'real', a band that cut through all the corporate smoke and told it like it was. Now Noel's grown up and unfortunately it's not being taken to too kindly.
I don't think Noel's turned into a dick over the last couple of years, but I do think that right now people are sympathising more with Liam. I think I'm one of them, to be honest.

Noel hasn't turned into a dick. He's always been a dick. People are for some reason expecting him to be like Chris Martin nowadays; say the right things, do the right things. Where were the "dick" sayers when he was flashing his black mastercard in 1996 or when he told that dude from Blur he hoped he had aids? Or when he let LAG contribute to the songwriting? Those were true dick moments.

I think it has to be considered that from the start of this album's publicity cycle Noel has been put on the defensive in interviews. Obviously there's been a lot about Liam and all the Twitter shenanigans, but most importantly Noel has been put on the back foot by a divided reaction to the music. Since he came back onto the scene as a solo artist he has been riding a pretty positive wave of publicity and good reception to the albums and gigs. Now that's changed with the divisive response to a different kind of album as well as Liam's re-invention as a successful solo artist keen to give the Oasis fans what they want. So I think Noel is just on the defensive and in some early interviews that came through quite a bit. I think it'll be great when he gets out there touring and hopefully feels that connection with his fans again. I get the feeling at the moment he feels a bit disconnected and even disappointed that not everyone is embracing his continuing journey towards full blown space jazz.

Noel likes his holidays and didn't leave a vacation to perform at a one-off event, televised around the World. It was a critical PR error. Liam's performance stood out compared to the others that day. Imagine where Noel and Liam would be now if both had shown up to One Love.

He has always been a dick. That said, it's quite sad that a man who writes all his songs and publishes them on the company he built with his craft is "the stablishment", and a man who has Warner and a team of songwriters behind is the "man of the people".

The problem isn't that he's "become a dick". The problem is how much Noel has changed. It's not even wanting the 1997 coked up Noel back. He's noticeably changed even from the guy he was at the start of HFB, and defintely dissapreared up his own arse a bit.
Hanging out with and championing Bono. Playing it stupidly safe and refusing to give fans exciting setlists. Stupid VIP ticket packages. Questioning the intelligence of his key fan base by labelling them parka monkeys. Appearing on X Factor (and mining!). Making fans wait 6 months for the WBTM tour!

I think it could maybe have been a bit sooner, but then again with Christmas it was never going to work logistically. On the CY tour he went straight into arenas the week the album came out. At the start he tried playing a few 'obscure' tunes and also a lot of the new stuff but it went flat as - barring hardcore fans - they weren't well-known enough to create a good atmosphere for an arena. This time around, the 'new' songs will be - as you say - 3-6 months old. So plenty of time for everybody to know them.

He's always been a dick, but funny. Now he's turned into a pretentious dick, whether it's because he's got competition from Liam, he feels superior because he's (not) made an experimental album or the superstars he's hanging round with have rubbed off on him I don't know.

The 'He's always been a dick' argument just doesn't wash any more. He might have been out of order in the past and that has been recognised by many people but I think most fans felt that he was a decent bloke who got it wrong occasionally.
The press conference.
Treatment of AA.
Opinions on money/politics.
Hanging around with U2/Elton/Assorted other pretty people.
Parka Monkeys/If you don't get my music...
General bitterness/ I'm a genius.
I think these might cover some of the reasons people are not taking to him as much at the moment.

Treatment of The Real People Visiting Tony Blair Hanging with VIPs / sucking up to appropriate people Flashing his black Mastercard He's been doing it forever mate. Only thing that has changed IN MY OPINION is that some people feel offended somehow on Liam's behalf and now feel an urge to have a dig at Noel whenever possible.

Well his politics has shifted, I don't think there is any doubt about that. In regard to the Real People I think people are willing to forgive a couple of pinches when he was getting started than when he was a multi million pound rock star in his mid 40's. Describing U2 as the 'makers' of the world is not really the same as hanging around with Weller and Ashcroft in the 90's. Its no surprise that you put the the entire blame at the feet of Liam or his fans Buts its a bit to widespread now for you to just explain it away with that. Personally, what I think of Noel has nothing to do with what he thinks of Liam.

this "topic" was discussed in other threads already. creating a poll about it is completely unnecessary and quite a dickish move, to use your own terms. you have an obessesion with creating new threads all the time when you can hit the reply button in any other thread.

Personally, what I think of Noel has nothing to do with what he thinks of Liam. Have his politics shifted? He hasn't become a Tory as they all like to say on Twitter, because of the soundbite about Corbyn. In that very same interview - literally the next sentence - he says how out of touch the Tories are. He has also said he's still a labour supporter and always will be, but for whatever reason he doesn't like Jez. Also Noel has always liked U2. If you read 'Getting High' and 'Forever the People' by Paolo Hewitt, he mentions in both of those books (I think) how Noel was the one bloke who had anything to do with Oasis who constantly went on about U2. He idolises that band and wanted to be as big of them. In fact him seeing U2 in Manchester on the Zooropa tour is what influenced how big he wanted Oasis to be (reflected in the BHN tour).

He's still funny When people ask him about general stuff he's as funny as he's ever been When people ask him about stuff like terrorism and politics, he isn't funny - he's just very opinionated. And in the modern world if you have an opinion that doesn't fit into someone's social bubble, you're automatically a) WRONG and b) A TORY
