I seriosly think Noel said it like this:
“I’m offended by singer/songwriters who when you scratch the surface don’t do any f***ing songwriting. As far as I’m aware if you scratch the surface of any solo artist in Britain and they’ve all got a team of songwriters behind them apart from me, Paul Weller and Johnny Marr, I’m struggling to think of anybody else. Richard Ashcroft?

Weller has co-written for years so I don’t know where NG is coming from with him.
And if Noel doesn’t do co-writing why did he release Shoot A Hole Into The Sun and Echoes Round The Sun if it is so below him? Or Hello, or Rockin Chair... or the song he wrote with Weller for the Monkees...

I don't think he's bashing the concept of co-writing, specifically, but the type of co-writing where an artist's name is on there but they're doing some small parts, while the other writers take care of the bigger parts, like we see with many pop artists today. Ed Sheeran, one of the artists Noel brought up, has some songs that fit this bill, like the abominable song Shape of You, but he's alright for the most part and better than many pop artists today (looking at you Taylor Swift  ). |

It just doesn't make any sense. We all know and he knows that Richard wrote all the Verve lyrics and his solo material. To say that line just doesn't make any sense unless it was a slip. |

Or if you could possibly entertain the idea of that he's "a bit of a bastard, a bit of a c**t" as recorded in his very own words. Never disputed that part. It just is a bizarre comments to make. Does many any sense to the knowledge we all have. |
