David Holmes probably contributed to the WBTM as much as any producer on modern pop/rock songs who gets a credit for writing, so it's a bit hypocritical of Noel to say that. Noel is just more old-fashioned when it comes to this sort of thing. George Martin didn't get songwriting credits but he probably would have if The Beatles were around today with the amount he contributed.

Weird attack by Noel, comes off as a really tetchy old man who petulantly holds a grudge against people (even old friends now) it seems.
Ashcroft though hasn’t written a decent song in 20 years though, it’s all very maudlin and saccharine these days from him. I think it says a lot when the best album he’s released since Urban Hymns is, well, Forth by The Verve - by far their weakest but I’d take it any day over any of his solo material.

The world would be a better place is if he realized that his lyrical skill is better suited over someone's jams brings the best out of him instead of going out to write the entire song and chord progression himself. Don't take my word for it though, ask Nick - "Richard’s strength as a lyricist has always been in his brutality, really. Some of the lyrics are painfully honest. I think he learned a profitable but damaging lesson with Urban Hymns; if you turn your own personal narrative into a universal narrative you might have people connect to it, but you lose the honesty of your own thing. Maybe this has been a cross for him to burn in later years. He does censor himself. I’ve actually seen him censor himself on Forth and had the discussion with him saying, 'you need to go with what the initial lyric was really'." www.gigwise.com/features/110587/nick-mccabe-reflects-on-urban-hymns-20-years-after-its-release

At this point it's better to keep a list of musicians that Noel/Liam haven't talked shit about.
This statement from Noel is the ultimate example of 'throwing shit against the wall and seeing what sticks'.

I lot of hate for RA's solo stuff on here.
I enjoyed the last album and on his other solo albums I think there's been at least 4 or 5 decent tunes.
He's mega live as well.
Oh, and he stinks of Man United so it's all good.

"The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Oasis and The Verve can all be held in the same breath." I don't think I've laughed this hard for a loooooooooooooooooooooooong while.

While Noel's comments may be incorrect and silly, Richard has always been a massive asshole himself. That Gigwise interview just shows how childish and stubborn he is even twenty years on, excluding some brilliant tracks that really do put all of his solo work to shame. I say that as someone who would defend his first solo album, even bits of his second, as some great work.
