Comparing Liam solo to Oasis is like comparing a Big Mac to a fillet steak. Both can be perfectly enjoyable but one is clearly a superior product and the other has much more cheese. X

Why is there so much BE/Liam talk going on in this thread?
Not a single comment on this page about Noel. (until now)
Weird.
-----
But while we're at it... the issues with BE was always quality control. Say what you will about Noel and his choices for singles/album tracks/etc... but he always managed to cobble together a decent album. BE albums felt like a mess all around from production to tracks chosen to vibe to everything.

Was Liam not playing the game and licking asses prior with Beady Eye? I seem to remember he and the band did. They went first. Naturally the British media pounced in coverage. Good or bad they love a good Gallagher related story. On both releases the band were on all the major talk shows (UK and USA), were on the cover of all the major music publications, did all the big radio interview spots, did exclusive gigs on the radio, so how is that any different than solo Liam in 2017 and as seen currently? The difference is better material and using his established brand name over a lame band one with all his oasis mates. If the music is good people will respond. Simple as that. Agree and disagree. Alot of AYW isnt better than the best Beady Eye songs. There's a case for the main singles and Bold/Greedy Soul being better but theres certainly not a world of difference in even them (certainly not the difference in sales). Liams name is a huge factor. Agreed. If it was as simple as the songs being good = success then I'd be alot happier with the state of music. It's not the case at all for me and marketing is absolutely key. You even seen with Wall Of Glass - The huge surge in sales and popularity come after he performed at a concert that was viewed by millions. Without that one bit of promotion it wouldn't have sold what it did and Liams campaign wouldn't have reached the heights. That proves in itself that theres alot more to it than you say. Beady Eye also performed at the opening ceremony of the Olympics. Seen by millions and millions and millions around the world. Probably their biggest exposure. Granted they played an Oasis song but whatever. My point is his name and better songs make a world of difference. People give a shit about his name. Not his band.

Look at other rock acts that performed in the same day Arctic Monkeys did R U Mine? and Come Together, Muse did their song for the olympics. Beady Eye was only there because of Liam, but they didnt won any exposure beyond, "hey that's wonderwall singer." Others had a better chance to promote their current singles and did so, BDI didnt or couldn't.

Both brothers are now signed to Warner (which may or may not be why NG has upped his release schedule this year) so it is unfair to paint LG as the the one who has sold his sold to a corporate major whilst NG is still an indie puritan. And let's not forget that before Oasis released a single record Creation had sold a majority of their shares to Sony Records! They've both been part of mainstream music for years and the masses, rightly, love them Noel is on Warner in the states. Pretty sure it's still Sour Mash in the UK. Noel has always licensed his records out internationally using big labels.

I just wanted to course correct a statement about how Beady Eye either “didn’t play the game” or get proper exposure from the media. Both are untrue. Beady Eye got plenty. Just go back on this forum and look at all the shit they were popping up in back in 2011 and 2013. They got a fair shake. Probably better than most actually. It didn’t work long term. It happens.

You’re never going to be successful with a band name that sounds suspiciously like a euphemism for “anus”.

Liam is not Oasis, Liam & Noel were Oasis. Liam would be working at Tesco if it wasn't for Noel's songs / Noel's background work. And where did i say he's failing ? Quote me on that. He's successful, but at what cost ? There was a time when both brothers in Oasis meant something for people, their music, their own way of doing things, not playing the mainstream record label game. Dont be fooled, Liam is doing marketed / box ticking rock n roll. It sounds nice, clean, but I prefered when he was trying with Beady Eye. At least that was something authentic. They did not try hard enough. So to me, only songs written only by Liam are worth something. the other songs are good, but it's just not the same. They could have been sung by Beyonce or whatever. The Liam we all knew and loved in the 90s does not exist anymore. Same for Noel, but at least Noel's not trying to pretend he's the same. Liam has become Las Vegas Liam. The essence of Beady Eye was 4 lads in a band making music because they wanted to and that was great and real and had heart. So i agree with you that it was better than the way he has to do things now. But not enough people wanted it. Fans want the music hes producing now. Make no mistake, for all the managers and promoters and even family around him, Liam is still the main reason this all works. Fans are here for his attitude, character and voice. He might slip into an OTT caricature of himself at times, but he's still as real as it gets and that's VERY rare in music now. People relate to that. Yes, hes having to do much more arse licking and playing the game than he or some of us would like - but everyone had the chance to back it when he was doing everything the real way and they didn't. Finally someone with some sense who accepts criticism of Liam, phew. But i'd say Liam is as real... as he can be. Which is not enough. He's stuck in a formula and people dont want him to change. and that kinda sucks. He could have been all that in Beady Eye really. Now it looks like he's contributed even less on the new record, and that sucks. As i've said many times before, I wish Liam would put his balls on the table and work alone in the studio with guidance from a producer, not with someone coming in with songs 99% written. The results could be amazing, if only, for once, he tried to get out of his comfort zone...

Liam is at his BEST when singing other people’s songs. Mostly Noel’s but you get my point. He’s no songwriter. He is a great frontman so let him shine doing that. I don’t want anymore LAG drivel. I like the way things are now. Good vibes. Good tunes. Good times.

I just wish on some level that he hooked up with someone like maybe John Squire and became a frontman, rather than hooking up with Warners. This is totally subjective, of course, so all I will say is that I personally would probably find the music more interesting. But I'm also aware that he'd probably sell way less albums that way.

Anton Newcombe would be really interesting will never happen though.

He’s not gonna get that making Beady Eye albums or teaming up with a Squire. That’s low level fame. Liam is a star. He said the lack of interest in Beady Eye impacted him tremendously.

He's never managed to become what he could have become maybe because people are fine with the way things are. It's a waste to me. I'd take Born on a Different Cloud, Boy With the Blues, Evil Eye and Soul Love anyday over Shockwave. but that's just me.

But I just mean someone like John Squire - someone who is a great songwriter but maybe not a natural frontman who can actually team up with Liam. Ultimately that is the set-up that has historically worked best for Liam anyway.

Yeah, that's true. It's definitely a personality thing though. I think I am more aligned with the George Harrison-conception of wanting to be rich without being famous.

Beady Eye had a bad band name, a bad timing, when people did not want to hear from Liam. He should have vanished for a few more years. If Beady Eye came back today with the same two records, they would sell like As You Were or the one that's coming. It's all about timing. the music is no different, throw in any As You Were track in a playlist with Beady Eye tunes and you wont spot a difference. Oasis had perfect timing, Beady Eye did not. It's as simple as that. And he's understood that, he's even saying it in the promo film, sorry, "documentary". He's gonna go away after this one because most people will be done with him for a few years. You can play the game if in the end, the art is true. But Liam's art is not true nowadays. It's just an imagination of what Liam used to be or should be. It's well crafted, i give you that, but by someone who is thinking it all for him... If you're fine with it, good for you. I'm not. A band with the name Beady Eye and the songs they had were not going to be as successful as Liam's solo record. Ever. They should have toured under Liam's name to give themselves a chance.

Absolutely. Or any other band name. Other bands have changed their name when a key band member left / died. With success. As for the songs, Four Letter Word and The Roller were good comeback singles, they're not shittier than Wall of Glass or Shockwave or china suckin town
