I was pretty angry because of the Noel statements about his new material. But in the long wait for the EPs to come out,I have a little theory. He said he was working on different projects. From one side,he said that he was writting songs on the bass to be more groovy. On the other side,he said that he would bring two records, one of them more traditional and the other more like WBTM? And we already have heard an unreleased song from those sessions (I don't know if the titles out there, but I'm refering to the one that sounded in the backround in that Johnny Marr BTS video). So my theory is: What if THAT'S WHY we have 3 EPs instead of an album? Maybe the songs don't sound solid with each other because there are 3 different styles. And it makes sense if you listen to Black Star Dancing and Rattling Rose, and I would say that the BSD EP is the one all written in the bass. Both songs build up on a bass line. So the other two EPs...one must be the traditional record that everybody wants him to do and the other one must have that one song with Marr and the vibe from WBTM? He did this interview in South Korea a few weeks ago. Says all of the songs are mainly based on the bass but do have guitars in them, just that the bass and drums are a lot more of a focus than before. Said that the song coming in August/September (that'll be the lead single off EP2) is a lot more electronic and sounds a bit like the Chemical Brothers. Guessing that's the Madchester-esque song he meant. He also said that he isn't expecting any new songs to be as popular as Oasis or his first solo album but he doesn't care. He says fans can like it or not, it's not going to change what he's doing. Any risk of Noel coming back with a song that sounds like Oasis MK II/early HFB is gone imo. Not that that's a good or a bad thing, and not that it means there won't be songs that couldn't fit in his back catalogue (tbh, Rattling Rose to me sounds a lot more akin to Chasing Yesterday than WBTM).

IMO, Noel has earned the right to explore new artistic terrain. He's given me 25 years worth of beautiful music. I can choose to like it, love it, or hate it, but I don't really have the right to get mad at him for it.

Any chance to have a proper CD release of the 3 EP together? This only-vinyl release is shitty.

What I wouldn't give for him to stop all the WBTM-esque rubbish and put out another Chasing Yesterday style album.... This song would have fit perfectly as the closing track. Great wee tune. I really missed the vibes/atmosphere of these NGHFB songs.

There's a certain feeling that NG songs can provide me - not all do, far from it - but there are so many that give that little 'warm feeling' when I hear his voice, and when the verse to Sail On starts, I get it. This is storyteller Noel, songwriter supreme Noel, hardly pushing himself too hard, but still coming up with something wonderfully pure.

I'm enjoying this EP way way too much than WBTM. Keep going Noel! Waiting for the others ep's :-) I really prefer Noel's production over Holmes. 100x times better

Charming little tune, more classical Noel, like it on first listen. Reminds me of other song but cannot remember which one It seems that in the best NG tradition, the C side is better than the B side and the B side is better than the A-side

Nice little tune but I don't get why it's on this EP. Very different vibes from the others. Btw, in my opinion, all the songs in WBTM are much better. Sail On stinks of "b-sides" :-)

For anyone interested:
Capo 4
Verse: Am - G - F - C (with one of those typical little walk downs the A string from third fret to second fret when starting again)
Chorus: C - Am - G - F
And those chords just literally repeat all the way.
