IT WAS TOO (expensive). Simple. This is a real problem. Vinyl prices are off the scale nowadays. Yeah, even the CD version. 19.90 for a "deluxe" is too much in these days of recession. The second CD should have been "free", with a price tag at 11 or 12 for the first few weeks. Or even 14. It's the price for the "regular" version. Too, too, too much money.

Man why do people these days care about chart performance. As if youre rooting for a sportsteam. Go team Noel š
If there something thats more rigged than eurovision voting then its chart numbers.

it's never that great. but the Foo fighters are shite anyway trying to find a world that's been and gone (part 13) put Council Skies at number 2 and Pretty Boy-DeadToTheWorld at 7-8 and you've got the best NG record in a long time

39 for Noel in New Zealand ā¦ Foo Fighters number 1. Liam got 9 with Cāmon You Know, so thatās not a great result for Noel. JB Hi-Fi doesn't even have it in stock in Dunedin. So shit. His debut got to no 10 and I think wbtm made top 20. I couldn't find it in Wellington/Lower Hutt, either.

A lot of salt in this thread for whatever reason but well deserved for the Foo Fighters, simply for having clearly better management and logistics. This album should've been released last fall, just like Moon was in 2017. Holy Mountain dropped a month before the album and then off to the races. Years of horrific management by Ignition has finally caught up to Noel and ruined what should've been an intact streak, and to boot gerrymandered with crap like NFTs and access to half a documentary for hundreds of dollars. With Moon, it was a quick single drop, then a month later, the album. And it wildly successful, especially considering Liam dropped around the same time as well. That horrific management resulted in three #1 albums plus a best of compilation at #1. A week before or a week after results in a slam dunk #1. Canāt control when other artists announce albums. The NTFs were definitely planned like this prior to the close battle. Too much work went into them for a last second effort. And it didnāt cost āhundreds of dollarsā, it was only $20. Not ideal but certainly not $100. If he did a Macca and moved it selling a lie of production issues that would be lame a fuck. Iām not convinced the āNFTā was that pre-planned. They could easily have phoned that Serenade company up when they saw sales werenāt high enough and emailed them some WAVs, a PDF and the parts of the doc theyād finished editing so far. Doesnāt feel all that well put together to me. Take The Coral and Welcome To Coral Island. In the chart week they offered a full acoustic album as a bonus with the Ā£5 album - that was clearly pre-planned, they needed to have recorded it well in advance. š„

FF always struck me as a singles band. I admit to liking a lot of their singles but if you listen to any of their albums after the great first one it all just kind of comes and goes in a middling, uninteresting, forgettable kind of way. They're like everyone's 20th favorite band and enjoy when they come on the radio, maybe they'll buy a gig ticket if they come to town but I wouldn't have thought many would rush to buy their new album. Does anyone know anyone who's favorite band is Foo Fighters? I've never met anyone, everyone likes them but nobody loves them as far as I can tell. I'm sure they exist but I'm surprised they're outperforming Noel this time. I know personally that I'll check out their singles at some point but I have no desire to listen to the album through because I know I'll get bored. Like I said I don't care about how Noel charts but I thought he'd win this one easily as I would have thought his fanbase is generally more enthusiastic and older therefore more likely to actually buy the album. I get why they'd outsell him in the US but in the UK I'd have thought he was much more popular. Just like The Killers, Foo Fighters are huge in the UK. One of of life's mysteries, in both cases...

Mr.Brightside is a tune tbf, but I can understand why they connected with UK audiences given Brandon's love and admiration for all things Manchester, most notably The Smiths
FF are just your average american rock band in terms of sound and the way they present themselves, it's the kind of thing that maybe doesn't always strike you as culturally signficant (especially in the UK, where they have a big rock tradition themselves), but it'll always shift sales and tickets

Shame the streak is over but given how bad Noel's marketing is - consistently - it's no surprise.
Let's face it, the Foos were always gonna get a huge boost on this album because of what had happened with Taylor.
FWIW, just put the albums out quicker, Noel. But again, that's because his management think it's the 90s.
It's, ironically, probably his most 'complete' album sonically (I still think WBTM is maybe a better one but I do think CS is very good) and the one that saw his streak end.

Back the Way We Came had no competition other than an American pop singer's record that came out a month before. The Foo Fighters, being an American band, even with the aura surrounding the release due to their drummer, barely inching out and breaking the record, without tons of promotion compared to Noel's team, is bad optics. Also I don't think he should've delayed the record, he should've released it last year!

He should have done a three-month lead in with "I'm Not Giving Up Tonight", "Flying on the Ground", and "We're Gonna Get there in the End" as singles. All with proper videos and promotion. Would that get the #1? I'm not sure, but it would've made me more excited for the record while still being radio-friendly.
In general, though, his solo career has lost wind since WBTM. Up until then, each album felt like it was building on the last, pushing him out further and getting more and more colourful. Since his bitter attitude in 2017, Noel has seemed a little directionless. We got uneven EPs, a Best Of, some demos, and a hodgepodge of singles. There has been good music, don't get me wrong, but that momentum which built from 2010-2017 feels like it has dissipated. Of course COVID and his personal issues have played into that, but still.
For me, all this makes it the perfect time for the reunion. Give Oasis the send off it deserves, culminating at Knebworth, and then get back in the studio with Holmes to light the fire up all over again.

the Foos is the better album- from a group that's sold out Wembley as the headliner. so it's no surprise to me. Noel's album is good. Foos album is great. it just is what it is- no matter anyone's respective options of the artists/ musical tastes.

You had me until the reunion part š It looks to me the star power Noel had is waning in a big way now, and Ignition relied on that for years and now can't anymore. Foo Fighters or not this should've been an easy number one, but if you look at sales figures they're also shocking.

If the Foos donāt pick June 2nd does anyone cry that his management sucks or behind in the times? Itās already the 5th best debut of the year. Itās just timing. You canāt control that. Once the wheels are rolling itās tough to alter just to get a #1 potentially.

You may not like FF but I'm seeing a lot of biased hate towards them. Of course they have hard core fans, just as much as Oasis or any Gallagher. It's a matter of taste and they're one of the few rock bands out there still filling stadiums.

Yes - and a shorter lead time wouldnāt have helped him in this case. He wanted the album tied to the beginning of the tour. That date was fixed. A 3-month lead would have meant an announcement in March, but it wouldnāt have shifted the actual release date. Every artist knows at least 6 months ahead of time when their album is dropping, which is why tours are established nearly a year ahead of time. Rather than waiting until three months before the release date to announce, Noel merely uses the time heād be waiting anyways to build up his sales (which is logical because why not maximize that time??). So the shorter lead doesnāt actually alter the real timeline fans would be waiting anyways. Because the timeline was always based on the tour, which was set nearly a year ago.

Just putting out there that Noel Gallagher has provided me with literally thousands of hours of entertainment. I started listening to Oasis when I was 10 years old and I'm 38 now. I've had the pleasure of meeting the guy twice and he was as kind as could be, especially when I was a very uncool nineteen year old kid meeting him on the street in LA while recording Don't Believe the Truth. Today I heard Stand By Me, Lyla, Let's All Make Believe, Revolution Song, and Dead to the World in a row and thought of how lucky we are to have an artist writing such consistently fantastic songs over a period of decades. Most bands best song would be Dead to the World or Let's All Make Believe if they wrote them, and one was a b-side!
Seems to me Noel is struggling at the moment with a divorce and less people showing up for gigs in some places. But Council Skies is a very solid record and, for what it's worth from one fan, I seriously don't care about it not getting to number 1 because the Foo Fighters put out a record the same day. Noel is on another level as a songwriter and performer and we're extraordinarily lucky to be able to consistently look forward to quality tunes from him. Hope he keeps it up for as long as it makes him happy.
