Thanks.

Noel could have really played it up almost like a politics battle against Liam. What a missed opportunity. Noel knows nothing gets to Liam more than Noel acting like he doesn't care. An emotional response is what Liam actually wants, so of course it's the last thing Noel wants to give. It would have been fun to see them trash-talk each other, but their feud is deeply personal now, and I doubt Noel wants to play anymore.

HM is up to #58 on the midweek charts. Momentum! How does that happen?😅 You do a couple of interviews and remind people that you aren't dead, then your name can carry a track. Plus, Holy Mountain is pretty good. Or it wouldn't have stuck around. But if Noel releases that song on a Friday and promotes it like he typically promotes his first single, it easily charts in the top 25. That's a missed opportunity. The charting alone would have steadied some fans and kept the ship on course.

Noel should have been able to shift the narrative of this album campaign better. If the song charged top 25 we wouldn’t see so many articles about Noel’s confusing new material. He let it get away from him.

Obviously it does not count for the charts, but I noticed that the videos of HM and STHTF in Jools Holland have a very high number of views (more than 400K STHTF and more than 300k HM) compared to other videos in the same episode. For instance, they double the number of views of the Dua Lipa videos in the same program. I guess that is the good part of the scissors thing...

I would imagine Noel finally got Holy Mountain on some Spotify playlists which is always huge. I’ve always wondered how it works with tracking this info. For example if I listen to HM on Spotify does it count toward his USA charting or does it also contribute to his UK charts? Likewise with the instant downloads from his site. Does that go towards USA or UK. I’d imagine USA.

CDBaby has very rudimentary stats, and you're able to view where plays have come from (same as Bandcamp), so I'm sure RIAA and BPI have pretty good accounting systems.

He's Noel F@#$ing Gallagher. He's The Chief. What more promotion does it need? I was waiting for it and had my copy on pre-order as soon as it could be bought. It may go to number one, but i don’t think it will sell as much as Liam’s. Noel relies on the Old Oasis fans for his success (whether he likes it or not) and hasn’t really attracted the younger generations to buy. Liam has been able to do that quite a bit and while still pleasing the oasis fans as well. Just look at their tours and what has sold out and what hasn’t. Do you have any numbers?

I don't think this album will get to number 1 and personally I don't think that's important. Perhaps Noel feels the same way, especially if a number 1 requires investing more money in promotion that what he would make from the extra album sales (not that much these days, I would guess). Time will tell.

Time will tell. The type of promotion he’s kinda messing up on is free. Releasing your music on a Friday to generate a high chart placement is free. Going on radio stations to talk about your album is free. Doing pre tapes of interviews weeks before is awkward. Not releasing music when you announce your album and tour is dumb. Continuing to do radio and tv appearances and talk more about U2 and Matthew McCaughnhey is dumb.

Many people haven't really taken to it. Each of Noel's first two singles charted in the top 25, so I don't think it's a big stretch. He charted at 70. If he gives himself a full week worth of sales, even a conservative estimate would have him in the top 50. If Noel does nothing else differently, but release on a full week, he's in the top 50. However, if he'd had the physical sales, which have still not been accounted for because he decided to stagger a physical and digital release, extremely conservatively, let's say it nets him 5 spots. That's top 45, and Noel hasn't done a single thing to promote it. If nothing else changes, except releasing on a Friday and not staggering his release, conservatively, it would have netted him 25 spots. Like releasing on a short week, where you're missing 3 1/2 days worth of sales, doing a staggered digital and physical release (those physical vinyl sales still haven't been accounted for), and not promoting it, those are a lot of spots on a chart. Besides, we're not really talking about a song that dropped out of the top 100 never to be heard from again. We're talking about a song that has hung around and will probably re-peak at least twice over the next 3 weeks. I don't think a charting of 20-25 was out of the realm of possibility.

Considering it missed 3 days of sales and the physical sales weren’t factored in yet it’s pretty safe to assume it would have charted a lot lot higher. Despite the negative vibes around the song by some fans and press it’s hung around in the charts far longer than maybe some expected. As said earlier, prob another chart jump in the next week or so once the album hits and the single is released physically. This isn’t the same as when IIHAG or TDOTL bombed. Those came and went with absolutely no traction.

Promotion makes people aware of a song it doesn't make them buy something they don't like and the with the reaction to it a decidedly mixed one from what I saw (much more so than his previous lead off singles) I think it would have struggled to get as high as Spaneli speculated.

But we're not necessarily talking about buying. There's less effort involved in streaming a song, which also counts as a sale, than actually buying a song. When we're talking about promotion, it trickles down to places like Spotify too. Noel not promoting this song, staggering release dates, and not releasing it on a Friday killed him in: digital sales, physical sales, and streaming "sales."
