The third Noel Gallagher album - Who Built The Moon? - follows two pretty successful releases. Both albums entered the UK charts at #1. Will Noel continue this good chart run, or is it Liam now who dominates the charts? Here are the UK numbers for the first two Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds releases (first week / total):
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds (October 17, 2011) > 122,530 / 835,043 Chasing Yesterday (March 2, 2015) > 89,110 / 311,714 Who Built The Moon? (November 24, 2017) > 77,853 / 230,500
It will also be very interesting to see how the first single of the upcoming album - Holy Mountain - will perform. The songs surely enters new ground and seems to devide the fans into the ones who love it and the ones who hate it - with not much in between.
Holy Mountain UK sales: Week 1: #70 (5,894) Week 2: #69 (5,081)
Who Built The Moon UK sales: Week 1: #1 (77,853) Week 2: #10 (27,172) Week 3: #11 (26,803) Week 4: #10 (36,692) Week 5: #11 (20,653) Week 6: #13 Week 7: #15 Week 8: #19 Week 9: #24 Week 10: #31 Week 11: #28 Week 12: #18 Week 13: #26 Week 14: #30 Week 15: #34 Week 16: #39 (230,500 total) Week 17: #55 Week 18: #54

It's not a given the album will get to number 1, Elvis might outsell him As for the single, it's come out on a monday, and streaming platforms are more important than ever right now, so I don't even think he'll get into the top 50 Hope I'm wrong tho

Liam will be #1 for sure, maybe selling even more than 100,000 copies.
Does the new Noel single get any radio play in the UK?

Don't know what numbers he is gonna get, but Liam's team is destroying him, I mean, he puts the single out of nowhere on a monday, there's no video, no info, and he is in Philippines or something opening for a shit band. Bad times for NoelyG.

There's more than one month untill the album is released, so no reason to panic. Noel is well respected in the music world and will find his audience with his new record. No need for a 6 months promo campaign.
As for U2: Still a great and band.

Imagine both albums selling more than 100,000 copies the first week. 2017 could become a Gallagher year!

No, it really comes down to time - this phrase confuses me because English isn't my first language. Do you mean than we should wait for 6 months and then we'll see what will happen?

I mean, if we had judged Liam's managment based on the first month of him announcing As You Were, they'd be seen as colossal failures. But here we go, he's prime for a 100k spot and a #1. For all the complaining about Noel's team, he does have two #1 albums with them, he does have platinum records with them, and he's been playing arenas. I just think we should see how it plays out.

Liam will be #1 for sure, maybe selling even more than 100,000 copies. Does the new Noel single get any radio play in the UK? I've heard it twice, the first time on Chris Evans for the debut (weirdly he just played it then didn't say anything afterwards, just went straight into the next song) and once on Absolute Radio. Reckon it will get decent plays on Absolute and Radio X, not much else.

To be fair, Warner is heavily promoting Liam and he himself is quite literally everywhere, which is beautiful for us and must be a nightmare for those that hate him! Noel is already an established successful solo artist, he does not need that much promotion to do very well in the charts. But I'm sure he'll do his part when he is free. All those shows Liam is appearing in now, he'll surely appear there as well?
I love the fact the now slowly, when you go through the latest unread threads, just from the title you don't know which brother it is about, as now they are both back.

Yeah it's record of the week on Radio X and I assume it's getting plays on Absolute Radio I guess Radio 2 might put it on its play list next week too

Just an interesting bit here, in terms of how streaming has taken such a stronghold over the years, even just between the release of NGHFB and CY.... Here's the top 10 NGHFB tunes on US Spotify ITHOTM - 13,507,487 AKA..WAL - 9, 925,496 TDOTL - 7,385, 577 BOTMI - 10,005,047 IIHAG - 10,927,024 Riverman - 6,673,202 YKWCGB - 4,273,233 Right Stuff - 3,724,957 LATD - 4,725,061.
Chasing Yesterday, an arguably less commercially successful record than NGHFB, has so many more streams. Liam comes in at WOG - 13,399,158 FWIW - 6,295,168 Chinatown - 4,302,360 GS - 1,318,193 Even the time between Chasing Yesterday and AYW shows a huge difference.
Just seems like you can't even compare streaming #s on a record from 2 years ago to one today. Shit just changes so fast these days.

Yeah men, I know Noel's gonna do well too (unless the album is really a big failure and the promo too). But it's good times knowing that Liam is a force again and Noel has to raise his game. In fact it's probably the best time to be a Gallagher fan since when? 2005? Cum on Noel, it's yer turn men, cum on!!! Show us what you got men!!! Looks like the leak it is imminent.
