theyknowwhatimean, have you read the new Q magazine yet? My friend in England sent me it today (both covers - young Weller and Weller now) and I'm been reading it. Quite enjoyable to read.

I know I'm pretty late to the party, but I finally managed to get the LP and give it a first listen (been really busy travelling and stuff). What can I say... it's just excellent from start to finish. I honestly don't understand how this guy can keep pumping out stuff like this. On first listen, She Moves with the Fayre and The Impossible Idea stand out. But it's all really good.
Now I have to go through the material posted on this thread since I've been avoiding it until I could get the record.

No. I was going to ask you, actually, when you said you were getting a copy, whether there's anything interesting in it. He talks a bit about his previous albums, doesn't he?...

theyknowwhatimean, sorry for the late reply, only just noticed your tag - in answer, I've heard the first few tracks once or twice and am starting to really enjoy them! I've been a bit pressured lately with exams and all that, but I'll be able to listen to it properly now I'm off for a while. D'you reckon it's a summer album - would it be a good idea to listen to it lying in the sunshine?

No. I was going to ask you, actually, when you said you were getting a copy, whether there's anything interesting in it. He talks a bit about his previous albums, doesn't he?... No, he talks about his 40 years career from 1977 - 1982, 1983 - 1989, 1990 - 2007 and 2008 - 2017 and he was honest enough to talk about the difficult time when he just went on solo after The Style Council ("It was literally like starting again. It brought me back to earth, definitely"), his alcohol addict in past and all that. "I don't care if I'm f**king Number 1 or Number 10 or big in Brussels. I'm just happy with my lot. It's taken an awful long time to get to that".
Happy birthday Mr. Weller. You're the "changing man" yourself. Keep on moving and keep let us surprise.

D'you reckon it's a summer album - would it be a good idea to listen to it lying in the sunshine? Oh I quite understand. Wait till you get to your second year! I'd never worked so hard for so long before... (although I did have to resit all my first-year exams, having balls'd them up the first time round - so, as long as you've got it right now, maybe it won't be so bad for you) But yeah, I would say it is. Compared to some of the other stuff he's put out recently, it reigns the genre-hopping in a bit, so all the songs are a bit more instant and you don't have to put as much work in (because who wants to do that on a summer's day, right?). I can imagine the lazy rhythms of Hopper and The Impossible Idea suiting being listened to in the way you have described. And The Cranes are Back, as well, for its gorgeous " It's been a long time making a show" refrain... Hope you enjoy...

My most favourite track from this album is The Impossible Idea now. There's some meaning in this song. Not hate, but love each other and cherish our life.

Setlist from Doornroosje in Nijmegen last night: I'm Where I Should Be Nova My Ever Changing Moods Long Time Saturns Pattern The Cranes Are Back Into Tomorrow She Moves With the Fayre Have You Ever Had It Blue Up in Suze's Room The Impossible Idea Wild Blue Yonder Above the Clouds Woo Sé Mama You Do Something to Me White Sky Friday Street Porcelain Gods Peacock Suit Start! Encore:(Acoustic set with Steve Cradock, Andy Crofts and Steve Pilgrim) Wild Wood Dusk Til Dawn Hopper What Would He Say? (New song) Out of the Sinking Encore 2: These City Streets Hung Up Come On/Let's Go The Changingman Encore 3: Broken Stones Mr. Weller played nearly 2,5 hours non stop with 3 encores in full energy. Unreal how this man has got so much energy at his age. He did have some trouble with his guitar and gear and cleary he wasn't happy with it. During "Into Tomorrow" he even had to sing a bit without guitar. New song called What Would He Say? was played as well. My copy of "Kind of Revolution" got signed

From his official website:
Paul & Hannah Weller welcome their new arrival
The Weller family are proud to announce the birth of baby Nova, who was born at home on Saturday evening. She was caught by her daddy after a long and beautiful unassisted labour. Hannah and Nova are doing really well and everyone is enjoying getting to know little Miss Weller.
Congratulations Paul and Hannah! Be happy with your little Nova!

Three months (and a bit) on from release... High time for a go at a colour co-ordinated condensing down of all the album's songs into an arbitrary 'marks out of 10' rating system, methinks!
Woo Sé Mama 8.5 Nova 7 Long Long Road 7.5 She Moves with the Fayre 10 The Cranes are Back 9.5 Hopper 7 New York 8 One Tear 9 Satellite Kid 10 The Impossible Idea 8
Average rating: 8.45
It is amazing, this purple patch he's come into since turning 50. Hopefully something similar awaits for our Noel, now that he's reached that milestone too!
