Paul Weller's website has just been given a new look so the announcement must be imminent. Thought I'd create a thread to discuss the new album as details emerge.

Really curious what it will be.
Also Mr. Weller just announced a couple of Italian dates in September.

I'm looking forward to this. This little preview of it, from some magazine or other, sounds promising...

His last album was alright. About half the tracks were decent. I adore 'Going My Way'. Looking forward to this release.

While we wait for news on the album, this is what Weller was listening to last year (again, according to some magazine or other):
Wonder if any of those influenced his writing (/performance) on this new record...

This man just doesn't stop does he?
I am very excited. It's great to see him up his game at every corner at his age.

theyknowwhatimean, are you going to see Weller at any of his upcoming UK gigs? I'm seeing him in June again (and twice).

Just joking about your musical palette consisting almost purely of British rock artists

From the clips it sounds like he might have abandoned the production characteristics from 22 Dreams - Sonik Kicks. It seems like Saturn's Pattern was sort of a transition back to the more classic Weller sound. I think that's a bit of a pity, I really enjoyed the last four albums. Let's hope the material is strong regardless of the production.

"Long Long Road" is more "classic" Weller, but "Nova" is something very different which has a bit vibe of Roxy Music (I'm a big fan of Roxy). I've said it before, but I believe Weller got a bit influenced by his wife's Hannah's music taste who is a huge Bowie fan. You can clearly hear it in songs like "Nova" and "Long Time" (from Saturns Pattern). This man never bores me.
He's playing a warm up gig in London tonight and TCT tomorrow.
This album will be the great birthday gift for me. Love you Mr Weller, my fellow Gemini.
Just pre-ordered a deluxe 3 CD set! Can't wait to listen to the entire album and seeing him again!

Both tracks are growing on me quite a bit now. Like Doc Lobster , I was a little dismayed at how they sounded--or rather, how they didn't sound--off the teaser clips. But actually, heard in full, 'Nova' is quite nicely weird, with its strange synth sounds flitting between the channels, sounding like a cross between a Sonik Kicks song and - as mimmi pointed out - something by Roxy Music; and, although 'Long Long Road' does play it pretty straight, there's a bit of sonic trickery right at the end (which, I assume is the start of the next tune on the album, 'She Moves with the Fayre') that sounds quite promising. Some snippets of info procured from the Product Description section of the record's Amazon page: > "Weller started work on A Kind Revolution immediately after finishing 2015’s Saturns Pattern, first tickling out the funky strut of 'New York' and the beautiful slow-mo gospel of 'The Cranes Are Back' - a song that ties in the changing face of London with the power of nature." > "... the exceedingly funky 'One Tear'" > 'Hooper' is a "reflective, contemplative song" similar to 'Long Long Road', with lots of "texture and colour" > And, as with most of the stuff on Saturns Pattern, it's co-written and co-produced with Jan 'Stan' Kybert.

Weller is the man who was born with Union Jack on his back, but his musical taste are quite based on - so called black music - rhythm&blues, motown, etc. One of my favourite his albums "As Is Now" is a quite funky album, but then a few years later he picked an another direction with "22 Dreams" and it was a nice surprise again.

I was a bit underwhelmed by Nova at first, but it's grown on me after a few listens. It's got more substance than I initially realised. Long Long Road is a classic soul track and it clicked immediately, love those strings on the chorus.
I think I'll be getting the 3CD version just to get the remixes, even though I prefer vinyl for this kind of music.
