theyknowwhatimean, are you going to see Weller at any of his upcoming UK gigs? I'm seeing him in June again (and twice). I'm going to TCT gig tonight. Will be my first visit to Royal Albert Hall - not to hijack thread but can anyone suggest decent pubs near RAH? That aren't Kensington crazy prices? Asks the Scotsman...

I was a bit underwhelmed by Nova at first, but it's grown on me after a few listens. It's got more substance than I initially realised. Long Long Road is a classic soul track and it clicked immediately, love those strings on the chorus. I think I'll be getting the 3CD version just to get the remixes, even though I prefer vinyl for this kind of music. Do you not buy digitally? Because I'm thinking I'll buy the actual album on vinyl, and then handpick the remixes and other things I want off iTunes. I probably won't bother with most of them--I don't know where I stand on remixes, to be honest--but I noticed there's a song called 'Alpha' buried in the middle. Weller's solo career has offered up loads of great non-album material (three words: ' A Year Late'), so I'll be sure to give that a listen.

This talented young Dutch/Spanish guy is supporting Weller's Dutch dates in June and his upcoming new album is mixed by Andy Crofts (Weller's keyboard player/The Moons).

If he plays "Ghosts" when I see him in June again, I'm gonna cry for sure. It's my most favourite The Jam song since my teenage years.

I buy digital albums from places like Bleep and Bandcamp that offer CD-quality downloads. I'm not too keen on iTunes, to be honest, but if I find the tracks I'm interested in from another source that offers FLAC downloads, I might go your route. I saw that the 3CD is pretty decently priced, so I might grab both the LP and the deluxe CD. Let's see what my budget looks like after the new Sgt. Pepper is announced

Weller and his wife are expecting their 3rd child (8th child for Weller) Good news from Paul and Hannah
Paul and Hannah are delighted to confirm the wonderful news that they are expecting their third child together. Hannah and baby are doing great and the whole family are looking forward to meeting the littlest Weller in the summer."Long Long Road" video Weller's instagram page: www.instagram.com/paulwellerhq/?hl=en

Cool. I'm glad we've got a lyrics vid - I was struggling to make out what he was singing in the second part of the song. Which of the new tunes is your favourite? Obviously, Long Long Road makes more of an immediate impression, but Nova grows on you. However, I'm wondering if now my allegiances haven't drifted the way of LLR again... Anyway, they're both great. A pretty encouraging start to this album cycle, I reckon.

For Weller I'm always like "let me surprise" because this man never bores me. Really looking forward to his new album!

How was the last night's set, theyknowwhatimean? My friend sent me a few pic of York's gig Friday night and he liked the new songs. Also, who's supporting his UK tour?

How was the last night's set, theyknowwhatimean ? My friend sent me a few pic of York's gig Friday night and he liked the new songs. Also, who's supporting his UK tour? It was ace. I was a couple of rows from the barrier and so could see Weller and his fabulous backing band doing their thing, interacting with one another and manipulating all their strange pedals and percussion instruments. Weller seemed in high spirits; even if he didn't say much, he was smiling a lot and laughing with his band. At one point he joked, "Saturday night in Blackburn...Fackin' 'ell!" And as usual, his vocals were spot on. The new songs sounded great to me too. Woo Sé Mama sounds like it could be a bit of an ear-worm (and had some nice guitar work from Craddock on it, if I recall correctly), and She Moves with the Fayre really intrigued me. Can't remember much about The Cranes are Back, but before it, he reiterated that it was a "song of hope", and dedicated it to "the people of Syria". He played a song in his little acoustic set called What Would He Say? that he introduced as a "new song". As that's not on the tracklist for 'A Kind Revolution', I can only assume it must be something he's got written for that acoustic record he's planning to get out for his 60th... But the highlight of the set, for me, was probably the acoustic rendition of Out Of The Sinking. It's a song I've never been all that bothered about before (I like it as I like everything on Stanley Road, I don't really love it), but done this way, I thought it became something else entirely. On support was Steve Marriott's daughter, Mollie. I was impressed; she has a set of pipes on her just like her old man did, and her band sounded tight.

All the members from his band are very talented musicians. Each of them have their own bands and released solo albums. Weller is a lucky man to have such a strong guys to play for and with him. His keyboard player Andy Croft has produced the second album by Dutch/Spanish singer songwriter called Max Meser and he's supporting Weller's Dutch dates in June. Really looking forward to his new album and to seeing him again in June! Also can't be wrong to be supported by Steve Marriott's daughter.

I like the sound of this!
Also dig that animated-brush-strokes-in-primary-colours thing they've got going on with the art for this record. I wasn't sure when I first saw the cover artwork--it seemed like a bit of a cop-out, just having the title and the artist's name writ large in Letraset--but seeing how it all links in, I kinda like it now.

I was listening to his Doncaster gig from last week and I absolute love "Woo See Mama". Mr. Weller must have written this song with Amy Winehouse in his mind. Great to see "I Walk On Guilded Splinters" is back on his setlist and "Man In The Cornershop" never gets old.

I'd love to hear She Moves with the Fayre again... When I heard it in Blackburn, two drunken/drugged knobheads were dancing in front of me and nearly elbowing me in the face every minute, so I found it hard to concentrate on what the band were playing. I only know that the general sound of that one really appealed to me at the time.

Drunken, noisy people and mobile phone should be banned at gigs.

theyknowwhatimean , did you manage to download the Weller's Doncaster gig I uploaded last week? Yeah, it downloaded fine. Thanks again. Now I'm just hoping whoever runs his social media accounts upload a few more of those teaser vids. I like them -- because they're only 20 seconds, they're not able to give anything big away, like a chorus or an instrumental break, but they still have time enough to whet the appetite.

"My missus, Hannah, she was saying, "Aren't you going to take a bit of a break now?" The thing is, it's not really down to me. If the songs are coming, I have to follow them. They might dry up next year! I've even written most of the next album, which I want to get out in September 2018. Working title: 'True Meanings'. At the moment the arrangements are acoustic, with some string arrangements. But I want to do some co-writes*, too."
*he's talked about wanting Richard Hawley and a young singer-songwriter from Surrey whose name I have forgotten, to play on it
