was going to nominate prince - purple rain, and the who - won't get fooled again for round 9, but those have already been nominated. my alternate was neil young's needle, and that was nominated also. fuck. "The Needle" is up for grabs, I had already nominated my two tracks hence it was only an honourable mention

For my second nomination I may as well pick a track that no one will vote for, excluding myself Warren Zevon is a songwriter you rarely hear about, which is a shame if you ask me. Here's one of my favourites of his: Warren Zevon is awesome. My favorite song of his was always Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner. Macabre humor at its best. This ain't your typical sappy singer-songwriter output, kids! If I could describe his music with two words it would probably be "morbid beauty." Like in the song 'Jesus Mentioned', when he's singing about digging up Elvis and begging him to sing. That's fucking beautiful... AND fucking disgusting at the same time. That's what's called songwriting. The same could be said about Tom Waits, my favorite singer/songwriter of all time.

Just looking and comparing previous rounds. Heroes was damn unlucky to be track three and up against Live Forever - it garnered a lot more percentage points than most of the other track winners. Any other round and it would have won. Top five tracks since round 1 (on percentage): 1. Live Forever 2. How Soon Is Now? 3. Heroes 4. Wish You Were 5. The Drugs Don't Work Interesting to see that these 5 songs were on only three different rounds.

I rest my case. And if you haven't heard the studio version, you SHOULD. I think it's in my top 50 songs of all time, and I get blown away every single time I listen to it. He was one hell of an artist, that guy. that halftime performance was brilliant. this version from arsenio hall might just be the best: @ 3:09 - 3:38

I'm not sure about my nominations for track 9, but I do have an awesome #10, for when my #8 of choice doesn't win. Shame my track 10 doesn't stand a chance.

Don't care for either of them, but I'll go Led Zepplin.
