If you were to make an album based on the second place or third place results, I think that may very well be better than the actual album. More varied and looking less like an NME readers wet dream.

More varied and looking less like an NME readers wet dream. and also looking at the nominations above for track 6, you could make a pretty damn good 12-track album from just these songs alone! that's how strong i feel this crop is.

I guess those other two will be enough, but aren't three nominees one too many anyway? (although the rules may not be set in stone)

Respect to whoever nominated Sister Ray. Wouldn't it be awesome if we had a 17 minute noise rock song right in the middle of our album!

Am I making this up, or was Jeremy by Pearl Jam nominated in this round? Just wondering since its not included in the poll.
As if it wasn't already impossible to pick only five songs...

It's all good, don't worry. There's some really good-to-great tunes on here already to choose from so that would've made it even tougher.

Going back to the late '80s for my track 7 nominations: R.E.M. - Orange Crush(that syncopated 12-string Rickenbacker main riff is R.E.M. in a nutshell, imho) The Cure - Fascination Street(great song from a great album. 'nuff said) I would have also nominated 'Gone' by U2 (which is one of my personal favorites by Bono, Edge & co.), but I believe Bad (which was nominated by idledreamer ) is more widely known and has stronger chances of getting many votes.

For track 7... Smashing Pumpkins - Soma (Worthy of a nomination for the guitar solo alone) Lou Reed - Satellite Of Love (Such an elegant track in every way, and some cool backing vocals from David Bowie as well) Stripped by Depeche Mode almost made it, but i'd be happy if someone else nominated it

Orange Crush - now that's my own personal winner for this round. Nothing can beat it, what a tune and what an album Green is.
