Stumbled across this fan edit via some random link on youtube and i think its actually quite good. I do love be here now for how overblown it is but have to admit that it is too long. this does a nice job of appropriately trimming it down imo. The video is unlisted so you cant find it any other way so i thought i would share it here and see what you guys think of it. especially love how magic pie ends and the editing in its getting better (man)!

No point in stripping BHN now down at all. The major songs that are overlong are -
DYKWIM - yet I don't think this needs shortening.
Magic Pie - the best part of this song is the second half, with the guitar solo. Lose that and you lose the best part of the song
AATW - was always destined to be long, and its what makes it so special, particularly the upbeat na naaas towards the end.
Its Getting Better Man - I love the the way this song draws to a close, so again I wouldn't shorten this at all.
Bottom line - BHN was not meant to be short. Even in its creation stage at Mustique, Noel always intended these songs to be long. This didn't happen afterwards in the studio by accident.

The only edit I would made on an Oasis album is cut out the 30 minute silence gao between Better Man and The Cage.

That said, I've always felt that they should have cut a couple songs, released IHITIK as a single, and it would have been fine. I'm shocked frankly that they had the were-with-all to cut/replace Stay Young.

Out of curiosity, are there fans of other bands who ever wanted to edit an album as much as Oasis fans want to edit BHN? I just don´t get it. I understand to maybe wanna replace certain songs with others from that period (in Oasis case understandable with all those great b-sides and everyone has his own taste). But editing down an album like what was tried already so often with this one is somehow remarkable in my opinion.

There's definitely a fair amount of moments on Be Here Now that could be trimmed:
- The outro of D'You Know What I Mean?
- The ending of Magic Pie
- The chorus of Stand By Me
- The outro of Fade In/Out
- Several parts of All Around the World
- The outro of It's Gettin' Better (Man!!)
However, none of these should be particularly drastic changes (well, save All Around the World) - and I think Going Nowhere should have been put on there, so it would probably wind up around 70 minutes again. As I've said before, it's not the songs themselves that truly hurt Be Here Now - it's the arrangement and production. Give all of the tunes the best production 1997 had to offer, make the arrangements more tasteful and creative, and I think this would have been a worthy third album:
1) D'You Know What I Mean? [-30s]
2) My Big Mouth [Same]
3) Magic Pie [-40s]
4) Stand By Me [-30s]
5) I Hope, I Think, I Know [Same]
6) The Girl in the Dirty Shirt [Same]

I made personal edits of Magic Pie and Stand By Me. I cut the second verse and chorus out of Magic Pie, and the second verse ("Times are hard when things...") of Stand By Me so it goes directly into the chorus after the first bridge. I wanted to do other songs like It's Getting Better (Man!!) or The Girl In The Dirty Shirt but I couldn't be arsed. Anyway I quite like the result for both the edits I actually did. I could upload them somewhere if someone is interested. il have them please if you would be so kind and take the time to share,,thanks mate |
