It is epic according to Matt Whitecross: www.nme.com/news/music/liam-gallagher-solo-album-velvet-underground-1862342Speaking to NME this week, Whitecross revealed that Liam played him his new album during a helicopter ride. “Well, I’ve got to say one of those bucket list moments in my life was when we got a helicopter to go the [Supersonic] premiere, he just turns to me and goes ‘Shall we listen to the new album then?’, then he pulls out these speakers and blasted it out as we were approaching Manchester.” “It was epic,” the director added. “It just blew me away. I think everyone’s in for a treat. It’s fantastic.” Asked how it compares to Oasis’ material, Whitecross replied: “I probably shouldn’t talk about it too much because it’s not my place to say, and it was demos that I listened to, he hasn’t finished it yet [but] it was very stripped down, very raw.” Whitecross went on to say that the music “reminded me of The Velvet Underground“, adding: “I know it’s very fashionable to put people down in the public eye, but I think Liam’s as passionate about music now as he ever has been. If people gave the new album a proper fair and proper listen, they’re in for a treat.”

Yeah. Wonder in what way it sounds like them though. It closes with seventeen minutes of feedback and Liam wailing about transvestites. ✌️

Tbf, most music would probably sound epic in a helicopter.

Im hoping for the best but I never take what people say about these things with much realism because usually it doesnt turn out that way, I remember someone saying CY was as good as definitely maybe and while its good album its not anywhere near that, not to mention Liams quotes of BE being the album oasis shouldve released after WTSMG etc.
listening to things like sunday morning though, I can kind of imagine it being something along those lines tbh.

Yeah. Wonder in what way it sounds like them though. He's enlisted the help of a racist, heroin-addicted German songstress, to sing on a few of the tracks?

In February 2014, former Oasis producer Mark Coyle revealed that Gallagher had written between 50 and 60 songs for the new album, which he was in the process of "whittling down into an album". Talking about the songs, he claimed that "Noel's new album is fucking great", comparing it in style to Oasis album Definitely Maybe, and describing it as "seismic"
He probably said that because of Lock All the Doors.

Id also add Liam saying BE was "rock n roll fired out into space" and while I like the album that statement compared to the resulting product is the equivalent to this

It will be hard for Liam to beat classics like the second best Oasis album Heathen Chemistry, or the as-good-as-DM smash hit Different Gear, Still Speeding.
Seriously though, what is the guy supposed to say?

Oh great a VU comparison. That could mean so many things since their albums were all so different.

Seriously though, what is the guy supposed to say? Whatever happened to "it's alright?" "It's good." "it's banging, man." Why the incessant need for artists to compare it to other albums? Let it stand on its own for fucks sake!

"dont fookin mess with me sunsheeeine"

Anton Newcombe is a Richard Wagner obsessed , heroin-addicted German citizen of Berlin and probably the closest Liam would get instead of Nico. I don't know. I'm probably a bit of a sensationalist. But Newcombe is what I think when I hear VU and Liam Gallagher in a context. I'm not sure if I would like it.

Oh great a VU comparison. That could mean so many things since their albums were all so different. Whitecross did say that it was stripped down. I'm guessing lo-fi stripped down demos, which would sound extremely like the Velvet Underground because that's their "classic" sound. However, I would doubt if any of these demos stayed stripped down and lo-fi. My guess, once actual production is put behind them, there won't be many VU comparisons.

If the demos really are that great, I hope that the magic doesn't get lost in the final production.

I hope Liam will release his demo's on his website (there will be one right?). I wish Noel would do that too. Releae that AA album on his website for free, or via Soundcloud. Same with some live songs, demo's and alternative versions.
