New album "This Is Not a Safe Place" is out August 16th. Ride return with the 6th studio album of their career and their second since reforming in 2014 and signing to Wichita. As with their previous album, Weather Diaries, Erol Alkan was in the producer’s chair, and Alan Moulder (with Caesar Edmunds) took care of the mixing (making this the fourth Ride album he has worked on). Gathering influences from sources such as the Jean Michel Basquiat exhibition at the Barbican, and the post punk sound of The Fall and Sonic Youth, Ride have made an album which contains echoes of their earliest days as a band, while bringing these elements into 2019. Both musically and lyrically, this is clearly an album made by a band who love being back together and who are at the very top of their game. Tracklist1 - R.I.D.E. (2:59) 2 - Future Love (3:38) 3 - Repetition (3:17) 4 - Kill Switch (2:45) 5 - Clouds of Saint Marie (3:53) 6 - Eternal Recurrence (5:48) 7 - 15 Minutes (3:13) 8 - Jump Jet (5:08) 9 - Dial Up (3:37) 10 - End Game (3:37) 11 - Shadows Behind the Sun (4:00) 12 - In This Room (8:40) pre-orders: ride.tmstor.es/Artwork:

Kill Switch was the rumoured title of Flick of the Finger before it was released. Random fact of the day lol.
Future Love sounds great. Looking forward to hearing this album. 👍

This is a strong song. Potential crossover appeal too. Ride is one of my personal favorite reunions. And they just keep showing how to do it right. Unlike the Stone Roses who basically showed that their ability to write even acceptable songs ended sometime in the early 90s.

I’ve been listening to the new song all day. First listen onwards, that guitar lead hooks you in. Kind of 80s sounding (jangly Smiths guitar) but still very much that wistful, melancholic, nostalgic, dreamy feeling Ride’s music always gives. At least to me, anyways.
The title track from The Weather Diaries still hits me in the feels. Powerful song, one of my favourites from this band I’ve become so crazy about since the last couple years. I had Nowhere and Going Blank Again for 10 years (found them secondhand, and id never come across Ride albums before) but only with The Weather Diaries did I get really into them and pick up all their albums. I’d love to see them live one day. They seem like a bunch of really nice people, just happy with what they’re doing.

The official video for Future Love is out.
I can't get enough of this song. It could be my favourite new tune I've heard this year so far.

New single, "Repetition", is out today.
It's not bad, but it feels a bit more forced than Future Love.

Apologies for a stupid question, but I'm just re-discovering this band after 20 years: Is Andy Bell the main songwriter (now and back then)? Or does he share those duties with other folks in the band?

Andy Bell and Mark Gardener tho Andy wrote the first 2 singles that have been released so far off this album btw carlober give Repetition a chance i thought same; was jarring on first listen- but it WILL get stuck in your head and will be massive live

I didn't like it that much at the first listen... but it's been stuck in my head for two days now!

I saw them last year when they were supporting NGHFB at the I-Days Festival in Milan... it was a short set but they were on fire! I'm seeing them again for a proper gig in a small club next February... can't wait!

I actually like future love.
I still wonder why beady eye didnt include more of andy's vocals tbh, the guy can clearly sing and it wouldve been an interesting dynamic to have Liam and Andy singing together.
shame andy wasnt capable of writing tunes like that for beady eye is all I can say. Its really night and day to the very bland stuff he was putting out within oasis and beady eye.

About the songwriting question, I think it went down like this: back at the beginning of the band, I think Andy wrote most of the material for the firsts Eps and Nowhere, but it was credited to Ride. That ended up in tensions within the band, and that’s why in Going Blank Again the songs are credited to Andy or Mark, 5 songs each I think. This was even worst in Carnival Of Light, each writing half of the album, almost literally, as Mark songs are in the first half back to back and all Andy’s in the second. Loz wrote one song for that album. Then there’s the infamous Tarantula, practically an Andy solo album except for a couple of songs.
For the reunion, I believe one of the first decisions was to credit all songs to the band. Truth is though, watching some interviews from these lasts years, I get the feeling that most of the material is written by Andy, or at least comes from his ideas and then the band develops them into songs together. I may as well be wrong though…
Given how much I like the firsts albums from Ride, as well as Weather Diaries, even Hurricane #1, it will always be a mystery for me how irrelevant was Andy in Oasis in songwriting terms. I had such high expectations when he joined back in 2000…

I fully trust your word, durk. I had to choose between Slowdive and Ride when they played here 2 years ago and I picked Slowdive. I don't regret as it was a fantastic gig, but it's Ride's turn now. Looking forward to their new album and my first Ride gig!

The official video for Future Love is out. I can't get enough of this song. It could be my favourite new tune I've heard this year so far. I haven't listened to anything from Ride besides Going Blank Again, but this song is excelent. The guitar from the intro is like something Johnny Marr would play, but at the same time it sounds so 2019 in a good way. It's young and powerful which are the last things I expected from an 80's band reforming in 2019.
