He can't have been that good on Some Might Say when even the producer stated he buried the drums in the mix because the drummer "lost it" towards the first chorus..... I try and not beat down on Tony where I can, because he's already had enough of it, I think. And you know, his drumming on Slide Away was perfectly adequate. But his efforts on Some Might Say are utterly inexcusable. A bad drum track is one thing (hey, half of the High Flying Birds songs have lousy drum tracks, and they still sound alright (for the most part)), but when you're so bad that the producer has to go in and purposefully make it so that no-one can hear what you've played, by clipping and brickwalling everything to scandalous levels, that's just not on. I mean, just listen to this... I'm not saying that the above version is necessarily better than the one we've got - no doubt it lacks the punch of the album one - but what it does do, is highlight the subtle beauty of the track that gets lost in Morris's mix. That lead guitar work!... And Liam's voice in the outro!... McCARROLL!!The odd thing I remember is Noel saying that the drumming on 'Headshrinker' was possibly Tony's best work with the band, which seeing as it would have been the same Loco sessions makes you wonder what went wrong? I know the demo was a slower version but it isn't a hard song to lock into as a musician...

It never occurred to me that's why there are barely any audible drums on Some Might Say. It never even occurred to me that there are barely any audible drums on Some Might Say in the first place. I'm fine with the handclapping and brickwalling. I know sonically it's awful, but I don't mind it.

I very rarely listen to the studio version of Some Might Say because it just sounds horribly messy. If ever there was a song that needed remastering properly...

I know fuck all about drumming, but Sharrock seems very versatile to me. I thought he was a great fit for Oasis, and he was excellent in Beady Eye.

For those people who have seen the recent shows with Chris sharrock is there actually a noticeable difference in the songs between his drumming and Jeremy? Haven't been to a gig yet, but judging from what I hear when listening to live recordings, yes! Less 'bashing' if that makes sense. More varied drum patterns.

I could see a big difference when gem replaced Tim for the acoustic shows. His guitar has a very distinctive tone and more snap if that makes sense.

Chris probably doesn't play the drums of Mucky Fingers during If I Had A Gun...

Someone asked about Jeremy yesterday at the Montreal gig. Noel sarcastically said said something like "Where's Jeremy? He fucked off, he got another offer with better money and he took it! Who cares who's playing the fucking drums? Well I do 'cause Chris if a fucking amazing drummer".

(So much chat with nothing to do with Chris lolza)
I think it's fucking great. He's surely the most exciting drummer out of all of them, I think all this chat about Alan is silly. He's clearly moved on, he sold practically all the drum gear we've seen him play to various memorabilia and drum shops around London, there's all that stuff about his property development. Chris was just playing a fill-in gig with the Cavern Club Beatles from Liverpool since Beady Eye broke up, so he was probably happy to take the call haha! Easily my favourite drummer of all time, so I'm glad to see him hitting tubs again, especially with our mate Noel.

Best version of Some Might Say is the Japanese CD single master. It is the same mix as the album version and gives Tony's drumming more punch - still lacks the bass though unless if you have a proper pair of headphones. It's easier on the ears as well.

Chris was standing in for my mate drumming in the cavern Beatles , my mate told me the other day he got the call to join Noel.
Would have liked to see Chris in the cavern Beatles recently but never went in when he was on.

drumming sounds better on Riverman to me! To me, I think Chris knows how to mesh with Noel a little better than Stacey did. There's another video of Everybody's on the Run from Nashville where Chris tries to do his drumstick catching trick during the first verse and misses the catch that's rather funny! Makes me disappointed that I didn't go :/ even YKWCB, which has a pretty basic drum sound to it, seems to be that little bit much better with Chris drumming. Maybe its because Chris seems to be having a little bit more fun than Stacey
