I'm a bit surprised by the mentions of Blink and not because I can't understand that you can stop liking them, but that you liked them that much in the first place. While they aren't THAT bad (I do enjoy some songs if I'm in the right mood), seemingly all bands influenced by them - or rather copying them - are totally dispensable. I've got an aversion against that kind of music and I can't even tell you what's the specific thing those american pop/punk bands have in common that puts me off. No offense to those of you who like them a lot. One thing I like about Oasis and Noel more specifically is that he introduced me to so much great music which I now love probably equally as much as Oasis. It'S a bit like the snowball effect if you know what I mean. What does this have to do with my initial point? I don't know, maybe it supports my impression that I could never outgrow Oasis, simply because they are the roots to my musical taste. Thanks for that!

I've just rediscovered this band...
I could never identify with The Vines. But I think I undervalued them in my teens. They actually still piss me off like they should to.
I think they can still inspire me, I guess they are like Nirvana in that way.

I thought I'd kind of outgrown Nirvana. Hadn't listened to them in ages. Like Joy Division it just seemed to be woe is me, suicide rock. That can hit the spot for you when you're young and uncertain but it gradually lost its appeal. As great as it was I still have no desire to listen to Joy Division but I sat down with some Nirvana the other day and what can I say? Cobain, for all his amateurishness, was something else. Sublime. The kid just reeked of greatness. Such a shame what happened with him. He was right in there with Lennon, Dylan, Hendrix & Townshend. An all-time great.

All the depressing stuff out there. Got no time anymore for the Gothic stuff and the depressing Post-Punk stuff I grew up on when I was a very little boy...
Life is too short and too great to be a miserable little bastard, cursing life, listening to music which is made by these kinds of people because they want you to feel their "misery".
Fuck that. Life-affirming music, or else...nothing...

Definitely Linkin Park.
Used to adore them, but they mean nothing to me now.

For what it's worth, I never find Joy Division depressing. OK, maybe "Closer", that's the one I least often play. But for me, all in all, it's just mindblowingly great music.

I hate to say, but if The Stone Roses repeats this - playing in stadiums every 2 year without releasing any more new materials - my love for this band will fade away.

Yes, I dont see how you could justify any more gigs with no new LP, the singles are good for promotion and All of that, but they shouldnt be expecting that people will keep going to a gig with only two new songs and songs that now are going to be 30 years old. Maybe that's the Cause of the very few dates.

Technically sure, and won't deny that it is atmospheric music. But, the themes and the kind of atmosphere's just plain depressing to me. It does affect me in a negative sense when when I'm exposed to it. Just cannot stand this kind of music anymore. I mean, listen to The Cure's One Hundred Years..."It doesn't matter if we all die"...pure nihilism in that incredibly dark, depressing opening... Glad I didn't get caught up within that sub-culture with all of these spooks... However, I specifically added "depressing" to the word Post-Punk, because there's also a positive counterpart. Everybody has heard of Joy Division, but few have heard of The Chameleons for instance. Infinitely better in my opinion. Serious, yes, but also very uplifting and beautiful...

I just wanted to add that they don't have the same effect on everybody. I really like The Chameleons, still have to get to know them better, but prefer Joy Divison. But then, I prefer them to most other bands anyway.

Tony Wilson himself called Joy Division "Gothic"...Had quite lengthy discussions with people about this term when applied to the mentioned bands. Not planning to do so again...some people seem to agree, some not... It doesn't matter to me anyway. If people want to listen and enjoy it, that's perfectly fine. Just saying I am glad that it's a closed chapter for me.

I can't see where the connection to mediaeval culture is comming from.

Been wondering about that too. Cultural mythology maybe? The association of the medieval era with coldness, darkness, and alienation. Then the association of these things of that era with a certain kind of music, which in turn becomes a mythos in itself...

Coldplay, obviously. Two amazing albums (X&Y is good too), then they turned to absolute shit. One of my most loved and hated bands.
