World71R thanks a lot for the positive feedbacks ! I'm glad you like it About Village's Story, it's a bit "baroque". It's the only song I haven't all the arrangements at the moment. There will have a piano solo for sure, but your idea of adding a cello seems really good. Will try this to see if that's work Oh and you said "the influences shine through" about The Day of Karl Spensson. What are the influences for you ? It sounds like it has The La's, Oasis, Ride, and a little bit of David Bowie but also with a little bit of Stone Roses, since it has some similar vibes as Sugar Spun Sister which is really cool. Thanks, I'm glad my inspirations are shown through the songs

Hey lubeck, this is great to hear. I liked Mrs Brown and Gonna Show (the latter I get a real shoegazey vibe from it). Do you plan full band versions? Just be sure to not weigh it down with too much - I think these songs are well suited in a lighter form. And a tip for budding writers of all sorts is to keep at it - whatever it is, just write, write, write. If you constantly keep at it, you get better and better. Noel said likewise in an interview. Look forward to hearing more of your songs, keep it up!

Mrs Brown will be the rockier, while the rest will be very baroque-like. I still don't know with what I will replace HTWA. It goes from punk to acoustic ballads, I give myself two weeks before choosing. Writing every time is hard when you're 18, like I am, and that you have to work. But I guess it is still the better age to write and it is when you have the more to say. I do LOVE the writing process.

The recording is postponed for some times. The problems are the lack of money and the fact that one of the musicians couldn't be for the week of the recording.
I'm going to the university soon, so I don't when I could record this EP. Maybe in November. Anyway, it's not cancelled but I hope I will record it soon.

From September, I'll be living in a little flat but maybe could use my ancient room to make an actual home studio. I'll see

The first thing that struck me about Mrs. Brown, was the second verse shifting to a fingerpicking style. I instantly thought of Bowie's Quicksand (when he sings the line "I'm frightened by the total goal / Drawing to the ragged hole"). I think it's incredibly effective in the Bowie song, and it would be a bold choice to make, stylistically, for your song as well. The only problem might be with the fact that your second verse goes on for quite a bit longer than those two lines of the Bowie record above. Maybe you could interweave the fingerpicking guitar with some piano or something to add a bit more colour. (I don't know if you ever managed to get into the Cure, but there's a lovely song of theirs called Homesick, which has Robert Smith's usual guitar style accompanied by a tinkling piano (and later strings, but I'm guessing your budget won't allow for that, at this minute), and it really makes the song. That's sort of what I was getting at) I must say though, I think the song finishes much too soon. It's a lovely jaunty rhythm that I think you could quite easily get another minute or so out of. That extra drum beat chucked in at 3:03 makes me want another for around 3:10, and for the melody to come back in for another round of "Hey hey, Mrs. Brown..." But I do like how the guitar falls away and just leaves the percussion - if you do decide to use that bit as a segue into another chorus, it might be nice to stretch it out a bit, and maybe tease the record coming back in: first, a couple of bars of just drums; then add the bass; then any flourishes of piano/guitar arpeggios etc. I'm struggling to come up with any constructive criticism for Village's Story; I love the song so much in its current guise that I can't think what you'd do it to make it better - save for a clearer vocal take, which I'm sure will come in time and as you confidence grows. Maybe another acoustic guitar playing some lead in a Take Me Away/Married With Children stylee at 2:10-2:30, perhaps? Like mystoryisgory, I'd encourage you to try and write another tune for going in place of your Half The World Away cover - although, I can image that when the playlist's all compiled, Half The World Away would complement Village's Story well. Liar, much like Village's Story, has a great wistful quality to it that makes it difficult for me to imagine it recorded any other way to what it has been here, very sparse and intimate. But you mentioned, I think, that this was one of the tunes you fancied to be Baroque-influenced. Perhaps then, a gentle string section (or as close to one as you can manage on a keyboard) coming in at 1:00, to differentiate the first two verses, that becomes more prominent at 1:25, for your pre-chorus, before falling away again for your "You're just a liar" chorus. The chords you're playing there, and the sound of your voice, juxtapose the words you're singing, giving that part of the record a bittersweet feel - so I think you should try and reign it in a bit for that bit; perhaps just have your rhythm guitar and a bit of arpeggio lead (à la those Holy Holy fellas). Then when you pluck your bass string 2:13, maybe that can usher back in the other instruments - strings, drums etc. Again, I think you could get another 30 seconds out of this track. At 4:08, it sounds as if you're about to play a little fingerpicking outro - perhaps instead, you could do another chorus, but recycle the little solo you played just before and have that playing down one channel (I'm trying to think of an example of a song that does this - I'm sure there'll be a Be Here Now-era Oasis one that does) while you do. And down the other channel, you could sing something else alongside the repeated "You're a liar"s, like Thom Yorke does on Paranoid Android (during the later "Rain down on me..."s). I know it's all well and good me saying "just come up with another few lyrics" but I'm just spitballing. Obviously you can ignore any and all of what I'm saying here, if you wish. They're your tunes, after all. I can imagine a jangly little guitar solo similar to the one at the end of The Divine Comedy's Becoming More Like Alfie, at 1:49 of The Day of Karl Spensson. Providing you don't feel insecure about belting it out a bit, I can see Karl Spensson fitting into the role of "the upbeat one" on the EP, a lot easier than I can Mrs. Brown. Obviously, if you feel your lyrics are too melancholic for that (I can't really tell what you're singing from this recording), you'll want to disregard that advice. But from what I can hear of the music, it's got the lighthearted feel of a I Hope, I Think, I Know-type that could prove a nice contrast to songs like Liar and Village's Story. When you move on to your pre-chorus on Gonna Show, with that chord change at 1:38, I can imagine strings accompanying your rhythm guitar at the start of each bar for the one-and-two-and beats. Again, along with your fingerpicking bit in the middle, I could imagine some keyboards of sorts. Annnnnnnd that's me just about running out of ideas, I think. I hope this post didn't read as too conceited. It shouldn't've done, because I haven't got the first clue how to put a record together. All the ideas I put forward are just that - ideas. But that your tunes have been able to stimulate my imagination at all (unfortunately, quite a difficult task, these days) is a good sign I think.

Had a quick listen through these Lubeck and you are definitely heading in the right direction. Although I do like your vocal, I think you need to start showing more confidence with it, it feels like at times you're holding back and you could go up another level, don't be afraid to attack the mic at times like Liam!
But yeah, keep it up mate, you definitely have an ear for a good melody. Keep us posted with how it goes.

theyknowwhatimean Thanks for the very long feedbacks ! I appreciate it. I find your ideas very interesting and some are pretty what I had in mind when I wrote it (wouldn't you become a producer later, eh ? ) . Pianos and strings will be the only different instruments apart the obvious ones (guitars, bass, drums). About the Bowie song, I knew it, but it was not what I had in mind while I was writing "Mrs Brown". In fact, it was "Sway" by the Stones and I feared it was too visible... ( "did you ever wake up to find "; " here's the story of this oh sweet confusion "). About track 3, I still don't know what song will finish on there. I have 8/9 songs that could replace HTWA, but I don't know if any could fit between "Village's Story" and "Liar". "The Day of Karl Spensson" is indeed the upbeat track of the EP (that I hope I could record in a couple of months), the kind of pop/rock who gives a bit more energy. Thanks again for the feedback and glad you liked it It changes a bit from songwriting forum where when I put the 5 demos, they said "they were ok to the cheap with the friends, but was never good enough to be on an EP... Rolo thanks for the feedback I agree my vocals need to be more confident. I always fear to be out of tune, so I restain my voice, what I know, is a bad thing. Glad you liked the melodies. I've seen you've uploaded songs for a fututre album, I'll tell you what I think about it soon

I like them. Other people have given great advice already and I can't really think of anything else right now. One thing I want to say, even though it's mentioned already, is try to get more power on your vocals. Good luck

Sounds great! Looking forward to it. Where's shows in 2017? In my little city in the south of France. We'll probably play some show in Lyon, aswell, but later (April/May).

It's really enjoyable to listen. Your voice fits perfectly the song mood It reminds me of Ride, which is a good thing.

Your best one yet, when did you write this? Any plans to give us a listen to a full band version when you get round to it?
Keep it up, keep writing and writing, and keep discovering new music (the latter because you never know what influences lodge firmly into your subconsciousness).
