Getting my MacBook repaired. Completely irrelevant to this thread but what was the issue and how much did it cost? Oh man it did not go well................. The previous night my MacBook randomly shutoff. I restarted it and some weird coding text appeared in the upper left of the boot up screen. Then it would restart on its own and back to the coding text. Repeat over and over. The guy at the Genius Bar ran a diagnostic test. Turns out it failed on the flash storage drive. The repair estimate was $570 for a new flash storage drive. I'm 3 months out of the 1 year warranty. I raised hell that Apple should cover the cost. After all it's a brand new MacBook from last summer in mint condition. The solid state hard drive was a big selling point for Apple last year. Extremely reliable and never crashes. I claimed poor craftsmanship. A hard drive like that shouldn't just completely die 15 months later. They said to me, with a smugness, "should have purchased Apple care". I told them I never do because when I buy Apple products I expect them to last based on my previous MacBook Pro (2007), iPad mini and 2 iPhones. Never an issue. They literally couldn't care less. "Should have purchased Apple care". Thanks guys. I'm a brand loyal costumer. Nice to be costumer loyal back. I was upset. Lost everything on that computer. Granted some stuff was backed up on an external HD but whatever. They had no compassion for my loss. "Should have purchased Apple care". Like a god damn commercial. Later that night I decided to call Apple care myself. Explain what happened to my 15 month old cutting edge laptop. Told them a flash storage drive shouldn't die that soon or if ever in a 10 year span. I said it was probably defective on some level. I was put thru to a senior manager who was very sympathetic and setup a group conference call at the Apple Store for tomorrow morning. They are gonna try and work with me to cover the $570 repair. I hope it goes well tomorrow.

Lennon2217While I could easily go through the whole "Apple is a brand, no different than conventional machines" and how their whole reputation is built on a cultural farce, the fact is longtime Apple users like yourself will be loyal no matter what. So I'll give you the truth. Most hardware manufacturers these days are working with cheaper material and are constantly finding new ways to cram faster hardware inside cheaper chassis. Look at those Ultrabooks from 2012 - light and powerful, but poorly made to keep costs competitive with Apple. Apple knows they can get away with selling mediocre durability within their products, as long as the surface is nice. In this case, you, like many others, were convinced that just because it's a SSD, and it's from Apple, it will last and work. This isn't the case because there are several Third Party SSD manufacturers like Crucial and SanDisk who make hit and miss models. Samsung, Intel and Corsair would be my goto SSD manufacturer. This whole struggle you had comes down to how clueless those Apple techs at the stores are. They don't care how long you've used Apple products - they just want the cash. They don't even give useful tips or advice. Also I'm not sure if you had backups but if you didn't have a External HDD by now make sure you purchase one when you can. Backup regularly. Can't stress this enough.

If they keep refusing to cover the repair costs, you can always threaten them with the French retaliation:

The people on this forum and on twitter who copy Liam by calling Noel a potato. Do they actually think they're witty or clever or are they just incabaple of thinking for themselves?
It's beyond pathetic.

It's beyond pathetic. Most likely a combination of those two factors. It's like those people who used to go to oasis gigs dressed as Liam. Same hair, covered head to foot in Pretty Green, wearing shades indoors, or smoking a fag and trying to look "menacing". They used to give me a great laugh. There was one or two at the early HFB gigs but I think they stopped going when Noel turned out to be quite gig at this solo thing.

Not when Liam used it first and definitely not when the mimics took it up.

It's beyond pathetic. The irony of Liam's "Lions don't lose sleep over the opinions of sheep" tweet On a totally left field tangent it reminds me of watching James Corden with other comedians to be honest, especially with Sean Lock, where he sits pissing himself laughing at the latter's material then tries to get in on the act by dragging it out past the peak of the joke or point, or simply repeats it while laughing as if it somehow makes him funny... P.S does it show that I don't rate him?

I think it was only funny the first time, because of the photo that came with it and how random it was. I've no problems with people calling Noel that. I think it's sad that people answer Liam's tweets with photo's of potato and things like that.

I think they're just having a bit of light-hearted fun. I wouldn't get annoyed by it or anything.

Had a listen to 'The Dying of the Light' for the first time in months...
Good tune. Well done, Noel.
This is how you do a tender tune in a studio without screwing it all to hell (i.e. If I Had A Gun).
