It's his weakest solo album, for me, but still solid. "Flying on the Ground" and "We're On Our Way Now" in place of "Open a Door" and "Love is a Rich Man" would have put it up there with the others, though. The former, in particular, would have been an excellent lead single. Great tune. Why it was used as a filler on a random best-of is still a mystery to me. An absolutely incredible song One of his best as a solo artist imo, such a shame it's basically for die-hards only

As for Council Skies, I still like the album I prefer WBTM over it, and I agree the production lacks a bit of punch, but I find something enjoyable in every track, whereas I always struggled with 1 or 2 on his previous records I always find this a good listen as a whole, although I do feel it's got less peaks than most of his other releases (for instance, NGHFB has TDOYAM, What A Life, Broken Arrow, EOTR, IIHAG, Chasing Yestarday has Riverman, BOTMI, WTSRTS, arguably even YKWCGB) While I love I'm Not Giving Up Tonight and There She Blows, I think only Think of a Number and Dead to the World are up there with his best material, and to be fair it's great that he can still write stuff like that

Has anyone noticed that the saxophone solo in Riverman is slightly out of time? It's starts a bit late and it ends like half a measure before the drums starts again.

Wasn't aware but sounds intriguing...
Albums produced with Dave Sardy are my favorite albums we've gotten since the 90's (DBTT, DOYS, HFB Debut)

Nice to see the High Flying Birds have had a bit of a streaming boost since the reunion, they've gone up from around 1.2m monthly listeners on Spotify to 1.8m. Noel's solo career has so many hidden gems and it's great that the newer / more casual fans are getting to hear them.

I'm rewatching the International Magic gig again and honestly it's made me realise that I'd be really quite sad if the reunion meant the definitive end of NGHFB

I wonder if we will still get a New Year's NGHFB gift track.

ohhhh meeee ohhh myyyyy, say so long baby, bye bye!!
( i like the debut album for reasons beyond my control. i love all the NGHFB albums, but maybe it's the combination of the album art and fresh "guy fecks off to wherever he wants to be" vibe. i hope nghfb still continues after and/or he goes back to this sound )

I'm rewatching the International Magic gig again and honestly it's made me realise that I'd be really quite sad if the reunion meant the definitive end of NGHFB The first tour was very special; Great energy, still the "Oasis energy" and Noel giving it 200% Ive seen him twice in 2011 and the gigs were better than later days Oasis. After that it really went downhill i thought. The 2015 tour was kinda meh, going through the motions. WBTM tour was weird with that first part with new songs and that second part with classics. It never works for any artists. I didn't see him for CS but from the youtube video, it was kind of a bore. Overall I think he toured way too much from 2015. Hey, in fact, its about time he reformed Oasis. Gonna give him a bit of punch back.

Hey, in fact, its about time he reformed Oasis. Gonna give him a bit of punch back. He didn't come near where I live for NGHFB but I went to see him during the CY tour and he was amazing. The energy and the interaction with the crowd, it was loads of fun. Then I went to see him during the WBTM tour and it was boring and I felt like he didn't give a shit, which is incredible given the material he had. He again didn't come to play near where I live for CS but yeah seeing the videos on YouTube it seemed underwhelming. That paired with my experience at the WBTM gig, I'm not sure I would have gone. He was always saying how much he enjoyed being the guitar hero on the right of the stage, which is probably less demanding than being a frontman. Maybe having Liam as frontman and him back on guitar will help with the atmosphere.

Idk, I managed to catch him on every tour and I thought they were all good, WBTM maybe my favourite because it sounded a bit more adventurous but still extremely tight
Italian crowds at Gallaghers-related gigs are always great though, so maybe he just got a kick out of that and I did as well

IIHAG at 78M streams in Spotify and rising One of those Noel songs you think on first listen: not bad but not DLBIA either...and then you keep listening to it 15 years later TODTL is another great example. Easy Now going in the same direction?

Easy Now going in the same direction? I think a lot of those streams for Easy Now were mine to be honest! It's a proper 'guilty pleasure' of mine. It has such a warm, timeless quality to it which makes it so satisfying to listen to on repeat. I can totally see it being talked about as one of the gems of Noel's later career in 5 or 10 years from now. EDIT: The acoustic version is also great

Dead to the World is soon to hit 1m Youtube views, largely due to its recent inclusion in the Umbrella Academy soundtrack. A vastly underappreciated track in my opinion, I'm glad to see it's getting more recognition from outside the Oasis fanbase

Maybe it’s the minor chords, 3/4 time signature…but this and Think of a Number are two of his highest achievements in songwriting ever, IMO.

Love edge and urgency in Noel's voice here. Like he gives a shit, but I'm in that minority that kinda likes old shouty Noel style.

Love it when Noel & Liam dig out the more obscure tracks at the live shows! Noel's rendition of Take Me Away from last year was a lovely bit of fan service, granted it's only a small snippet. Hopefully the Live '25 shows have some more of these little surprise moments in store
