“You gotta get yourself together” I'll bet you anything that Noel was looking through his 90s playlist on Spotify, listened to Stereo MCs "Get yourself connected" and was likely influenced to borrow it for his own track,... well it could have happened that way. We all read things into the lyrics of our favourite pop stars, whether they are intentionally there or not. And they may not realise how personal their words are until after the fact. It does seem as though Noel's lyrics are still vague on the new record but he's writing about his personal cirumstances. He has faced a seemingly irrevocable breakdown of his long term relationship with the person he considered his soul mate and life partner. So the new LP is probably more revealing than any recent set of lyrics he has put out. We'll find out how directly his new song Dead to the World, a heartbreaking ballad with the lush strings, lays out poetically what he was feeling when it's released. If you were the type of person to scour previous songs for 'clues' though surely the most blatant of them all is: Sail on Tell the girl behind the counter That I loved her once but soon I must be gone Sail on Tell the world I'm gonna miss them But I've got to find a place where I belong

Its official, Pretty Boy will be booted off the tracklist for this record in favor of the Robert Smith remix.
Good decision andymorris.

Never been to a solo Noel/Birds gig. Council Skies has me thinking this year is the year to change that.

The first two Oasis albums, and The Masterplan as well I'd say, were so consistently great it's just incredible to look back and realise what purple patch Noel was going through, Be Here Now was a step back, but still a quality record when you cut it down to the songswriting in itself After that it's been ups and downs, I've enjoyed most of Noel's solo career, thought Standing and DOYS were imperfect but still capable to evoke interesting atmospheres, avoided listening too much to HC and DBTT Every era though, no matter how good the overall product is, has had those 2-3 Noel-penned tracks that just blow you away and remind you not only of how great of a pop songwriter he is, but of the reason why you became a fan in the first place I've discovered and loved so many different songs, records and artists through the years, but a great Noel tune will always feel like home Dead to The World just had that impact again, and as long as Council Skies will have another one or two gems like that I'll be a happy person

Only songwriter who manages this for me.

Never been to a solo Noel/Birds gig. Council Skies has me thinking this year is the year to change that. 2011 tour was as good as Oasis pre-DBTT to be honest. Noel 200% in it. After that it was a bit going though the motion i though. but it's definitely worth going, if only for the quality of the musicians. Great drummer, great bass, great guitarist. Amazing pianist.

Never been to a solo Noel/Birds gig. Council Skies has me thinking this year is the year to change that. You definitely should but, from my experience, it depends on his mood. The first HFB gig I went to was in 2016 and it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to. Musically of course, that's always quality but he interacted a lot with the crowd, he was funny and fun. I went back in 2018 and he barely spoke, he didn't seem to be into it at all. Musically, it was good, like I said so if that's enough for you, you should enjoy yourself.

I think it depends a lot on where you see him, too Musically they're a great band now, so that side of it should be very enjoyable, but when there's a good crowd (know most of the songs, don't have a problem with getting the piss taken out of them, don't have many loud annoying idiots in bucket hate) Noel gets into a lot more and that makes a huge difference for the performance I've seen him twice in Milan in a smallish venue and it was unreal, not sure it's going to be the same now he's playing the Forum which is an arena

Ive seen Noel two times in 2011 (that was STILL pre-smartphone era too, so that was a huge change as well) in a small venue and then at the apollo in London, the set was really tight. It's always tight with NG but I thought it showed that he had something to prove. Like a second new career. 2015 tour was meh meh, mainly coz of the songs, CY being half a miss. and WBTM tour was special musically, but not really moving the crowd. I enjoyed it though for the quality of the performance. That's why all in all i'd say 2011 was the best because you had crowd + relatively small or big venues + Noel hungry again. Hope the next tour brings something new although i gotta say right now i dont have any desire to go see him live. Think I'll wait for early gigs and grab a ticket somewhere, or not.

I guess Noel felt people were uninterested in his new material and only here for Supersonic and Wonderwall or DLBIA. And it hurt. So he was pissed off i think.

Yeah small venues are always better, and the sound in arenas here is terrible as well But I caught him in both 15 and 18 and the fact that crowd was into the new stuff as well definitely helped the general mood, and he always seems to like coming here too I think if you catch him in central Europe where the crowds are a bit colder (and you also get more people from the UK throwing beers around and shouting nonsense) the results can be mixed, same for UK arenas where you can get amazing gigs when the crowd is there for the HFBs as well, but it can get stale when people only want Oasis South America and South Korea/Japan seem to always be great from videos, but they may be a bit out of hand Said this though, I think the next tour may benefit from the Moon era in the sense that people who are not interested in his solo stuff will have drifted apart from it, so maybe we're going to get smaller but more interested crowds And the general reaction to the released singles seem to be a positive one so far, so there's that as well, I can see Easy Now becoming a crowd-pleaser at gigs

There is nothing I haven’t enjoyed about this current album cycle. Niente. I find the hate on Council Skies in particular to be appalling. It's obviously radio music that's made to be played really loud on basic speakers, but that shouldn't be a bad thing. It's going to go down great live.

It's obviously radio music that's made to be played really loud on basic speakers, but that shouldn't be a bad thing. It's going to go down great live. Me neither. In terms of the vocal melody, it’s unconventional in terms of Noel’s usual style. IMO there’s a jazz influence. And I think some people might find it grows on them. I hope so anyway, in the way that Pretty Boy has grown on me. With regards to the cycle in general…Noel wrote these songs in isolation, he speaks of these songs coming from a place of honestly and sincerity. He is working with a full studio band again (his touring band). There are more traditional instruments involved. There’s a melancholy to these songs that is balanced out with a sprinkling of starlight. If it doesn’t appeal to others, well it’s a shame - but I’ve been around far too long to be drawn in to the charade of attempting to cajole others. But this Noel - who expresses the struggle for happier days better than anybody - that’s the Noel that I need right now.

I think a considerable amount of those on the forum that were very big proponents of what ended up being Noel's extremely short-lived creative renaissance have a slight feel of being short changed, especially after all the talking up Noel did himself during 2017-2019. As soon as I heard Black Star Dancing and saw he wasn't working with Holmes, I automatically knew that phase of his was going to end very quickly. He just isn't and has never been that kind of artist. Noel is a songwriting savant that can churn out a wistful melancholic ballad or euphoric crowd pleasing anthem with the strum of his hand. He's not an impressionistic, write as you go artist, no matter how much you try to push him to be.
There's certainly a perfect way for Noel to balance out unorthodox creative endeavors with his motus operandi. I think moving forward he'll find it and we'll get more consistency from him but not necessarily a return to monotony as some fear.

I really dont mind Noel going back to basics, because you can always do "different" basics with sound exploration, melodies...etc with just a guitar voice and drums you can produce millions different sounding records. It's not the issue here. Flying on the Ground is the highlight of the post"cosmic pop" for me. It should have been one of his main track on this new record. And he should have gone down that road. Something old but a bit new too. Dead to the World is also quality, although there's concerns about the production. As for the rest, its really weak and uninspired. Tune tailored made for 30 seconds snippets on social media. You can say that and not have the feeling of "being short changed". It's not black or white. It's about the material, only the material. And so far it's extremely lukewarm. Council Skies (the song) is just a mix of melodies and songs he wrote before on top of a DBTT production. Literally. I'm sorry but you can't defend that. Even for Noel. He used to nick stuff is a smart way and I always defended him here when he was attacked about so called ripp offs. But there's a limits about what you can and cant do. This is just plain lazy and tired. Better not make a record if you don't feel like it. It really feels like a record he didn't want to make so far. If there is no motivation, you can feel in in the recordings. This is the one. There's still a few tracks that could change my view on this record, but the first half is extremely disappointing. It feels like a record he made to regain fans more than for his own pleasure. And it's never good.

Seems to me like he doesn't want to be making these songs. He doesn't want to be churning out radio fluff. He can do those with his eyes closed and any artist will tell you how boring that is. So his boredom is coming across. Truth be told he wants to make Ibiza dance and chill out albums which he'd be damn good at. He's even said he wrote this title track at Ibiza and felt influenced by it for this song. He's always loved that place and the music. Fact he's gonna follow this up with an acoustic album, again can do in his sleep, and not something that excites him just screams 'needs must' to me. Doing what he must to regain the fans he lost to Liam.

There is nothing I haven’t enjoyed about this current album cycle. Niente. Easy Now was a bit of a disappointment but it has grown on me. A lot. I'm a big fan of Pretty Boy (both versions), Dead to the World is a little gem and I'm quite addicted to Council Skies for some strange reasons at the moment. I guess I'm in the minority, because I really enjoyed the WBTM era and the EPs too (bar a couple of songs). The album can't come soon enough. (I do hope that there's nothing as dull as Wandering Star on it though).

I watched that Jools Holland Special for the first time in years the other day - Noel looks like he'd rather be shovelling sh*t!

Since you’re privy to Noel’s desires, which albums did he want to make after SOTSOG? Because, for me, HC is barely decent, DBTT is terrible and no album from his solo career is close to SOTSOG; the production is incredible, it’s cohesive and has massive tunes like GLIO, Gas Panic, Roll It Over, FITB. His new stuff sounds like it belongs on grocery/retail store, hotel lobby and/or elevator compilations.

Calm down! It was a tongue in cheek comment at those above who seem to know that Noel didn't want to make Council Skies (despite building his own studio, working on it for 2 years+, being a multi-millionaire with no record company demands who can do exactly as he pleases - he doesn't need to release anything, he could just tour his back catalouge whenever he wanted to earn some cash).
I was just reflecting that I watched that Jools Holland Special and Noel was clearly in an utterly foul mood. I've no issues with the production of SotSoGs but the songs are a massive downer compared to the 3 albums preceding it.
It's just an opinion.

The lack of soul in that album is so depressing. Even the good songs are depressing. DBTT is a total failure, but at least he's trying different things and eventually he found TIOBI, which opened new songwriting directions for him. And in what world is exactly Roll It Over a massive tune instead of a massive slog? You know mate, people have different tastes, get over it
