I really like most of the EP/compilation tracks: the only one I don't listen to regularly is Wandering Star (dull, Noel on autopilot, no thanks). I think they sounded fresh and we got something for all tastes: traditional Noel-ish tunes like Sail On or We're On Our Way Now, and something more different like Blue Moon Rising or This Is The Place. Definitely not boring at all!
Personal list, from best to worst: Flying On The Ground A Dream Is All I Need To Get ByWe're On Our Way Now Blue Moon Rising Sail OnCome On Outside Rattling RoseThis Is The Place Evil Flower Black Star DancingWandering StarIts a real shame the way Wandering Star is produced. It sounds horrible. Not sure how it got let out of the studio sounding like that. I really think it could be a good tune if it was redone at some point.

Personally think there's something quite charming that gets under your skin with Wandering Star- the chorus mainly. The verse is a bit Little by little with the auto chord sequence but it does take off.
A few of these just don't go anywhere- Evil Flower has a decent enough idea in the music but needs something else to lift it- and it wouldn't have made an album.

'This Is The Place' stands out as one of his best since he's gone solo but bottom two are very possibly the worst he's written and released ever. I've heard a few people saying on here that if the songs had been released as NGHFB LP4 it would've stood up perfectly well but I strongly disagree. 'Flying On The Ground' & 'We're On Our Way Now' are so average. No way did they deserve to feature on the Best Of.

Noel’s best EP songs. Wish a bunch were on MOON to help round out the sound of that project. Always felt a track or two short.

Anyone with ears to hear will recognise much of quality on the Noelly G EPs. I don't like every track, can any one actually say they do like every track on each EP? I do like every track on each EP. Yes even Evil Flower, it's a nice breath between melodies and fits the project. The only problem i have is with Wandering Star, it's too compressed and cant be listened without a pain in the ear. It's just unlistenable the way it has been mastered. That and the two bonus tracks on his compilation make up one of Noel's finest record to date (solo)... And then he releases Pretty Boy

This Is The Place Black Star Dancing Blue Moon Rising Sail On It’s 43 mins long, so by removing the instrumentals you only have space for one of those. I vote for TITP. Sail On should’ve been a b-side during the Chasing Yesterday era instead of that dreadful birthday cake tune. X

Wandering Star is a good song. It's meant to be a Christmas song so does what it says on the tin. It's better than Careless Whisper and that Mariah Carey one, can't stand those but I play Noel's every year since it was released. Not keen on Evil Flower. Waste of time that one. Like everything else he released on the EPs but am partial to dance music. Glad he did them. Would like more.

Ranking these songs really made me realize how good and interesting/varied this era has been:
This Is The Place Sail On Black Star Dancing Rattling Rose A Dream Is All I Need To Get By Blue Moon Rising Come On Outside Flying On The Ground We're On Our Way Now Evil Flower Wandering Star
The top 5 have each spent different amounts of time as my go-to NGHFB song. This is the Place is by far the best, IMO. Noel hits on every experimental note just right and sounds deeply inspired. Sail On also hits on being Noel-like but also something new and fresh, and is such a sweet song.
Rattling Rose has, by far, been the biggest grower for me. I remember hating it first but now I really click with the tension building with every run through the chorus until it climaxes in the bridge and the final run through the chorus. Also the groove that carries this song is low-key addictive (A Dream... is similarly addictive)
I'd love to rank Blue Moon Rising higher but it just needs to be longer. When those bongos start coming in with about a minute left or so and then it falls after the chorus, I really, really want the song to launch into like an extended psychedelic soul-meets-Champagne Supernova breakdown before it goes back to the chorus one final time and then falls.

I'd put Pretty Boy and Trying To Find a World That's Been and Gone there at the top as well.

Sail On A Dream… Blue Moon Rising Black Star Dancing We're On Our Way Now This Is the Place Flying on the Ground Rattling Rose Come On Outside Evil Flower Wandering Star Right now Pretty Boy would land between BMR and BSD. This is almost exactly my ranking too. Certainly the top three. Had a listen to Sail On recently which elevated it to the top, it's dripping in melancholy and a sense of yearning. Beautiful little song, somehow only Noel can reach those kinds of depths for me. And Pretty Boy has grown on me, it came up on an indie playlist and stood out amongst a lot of the beige tracks. It's not great, but I like it much better than most of his songs on his first two albums.

Well maybe the EP should have been an album. It would have been one of his best ever really. Instead it's escaping history as throwaway releases.

I think the EP's, even if aggregated to their best form, would still be comfortably his weakest album.
"A Dream" is the only track that's truly stayed with me, and even that is an inferior version of similar HFB tracks.

I love when Noel does the Spector-esque songs like Love Is the Law or Motown-inspired like Flying On The Ground. His affinity for those musical eras has always been underrated.

Went back to Who Built the Moon and it really is a fantastic album. Hasn't lost a drop of bombastic power in the last five years. Fort Knox is a call to arms, Holy Mountain is a drunken blast, Beautiful World creeps and rattles like vintage Radiohead, If Love is the Law is the more underrated banger he's done, and The Man Who Built the Moon just runs the world. And then that lilting finish with Dead in the Water, the perfect post-credits scene.
What a time to be a Gallagher fan that was.
