HFB1 is a really good album but I wish Noel had reached for the stars and included Alone on the Rope, Let the Lord Shine a Light on Me and A Simple Game of Genius throughout it to really send a big warning shot in the post-Oasis era. I agree with ALONE ON THE ROPE (one of his finest solo songs) but A SIMPLE GAME OF GENIUS? Oh, Cecilia, close your eyes and I will be with ya has to be one of the worst opening lines in songwriting history. And I find LET THE LORD SHINE A LIGHT ON ME just a tiresome, banal song. Sorry, I love Noel's solo career on the whole but those two tracks would definitely be at the bottom of my list.

Was listening to Revolution Song the other day. Still great. The 1999 demo yes. The Noel b-side not so much. Don’t dig its production.

Those two songs are wonderful and have a different feel than most of Noel’s work and it’s great to have them for that reason. Not sure how anyone can clown on any lyrics here with some of the gems that Oasis produced. It’s not as if Noel and the crew were ever Alex Turner in that regard. Something something banana skin feet now… We’re all on thin ice liking the lyrics we’ve loved for years or decades.

I totally agree with you about A Simple Game Of Genius and Let The Lord Shine A Light On Me and I've never really liked them much. The problem I have with the latter song is that woman's voice on the track it just spoils the whole song for me.

I hate to think what the abandoned AA album would have sounded like as I suspect that was plastered with female vocals too.

Yeah, maybe but sometimes I don't mind female voices on songs if they work but sadly I just think that woman's voice on this song is just horrible.

Speaking of Noel's bsides - has he ever mentioned what Here's A Candle (For Your Birthday Cake) is about?

Noel once gave us a line about throwing-up to kick a song off, let's not forget - and that was a single. This one just seems like typical ballad-speak that anyone from McCartney to Cohen could come out with without much fuss in either direction.

Isn’t this just from the pre-recorded live stuff to promote the best of?

This pic was in my feed and... what the hell is up with the left hand? Looks like a knee, and some weird leg image beneath it. http://instagr.am/p/CmcOG6LMI9X Is some kind of poster behind him. Look at his legs to see where Noel ends and image or whatever it is begins. His left hand is not in the pic.

Probably takes a few months. Painful too, one would imagine.

I'm not really into playlists but if that's the occasion for people to discover new (or new old) music then fair enough.
Noel seems a bit obsessed by Manchester Lately.

New Year release seems extremely unlikely now given the Masterplan teaser on Oasis sites.

I think that even goes back to the Moon? era. A lot of Noel's more electronic leanings have some distinct New Order and acid house influences in there (She Taught Me How to Fly feels like an awesome love letter to them).

I liked none of the EPs or tracks post WBTM. Black Star Dancing, Dream Is All I Need To Get By, This Is The Place, We're On Our Way Now, Flying On The Ground, We Gonna Get There In The End, you name it.
Hands down the most bland, washed out, boring period in Noel's entire catalogue.

Anyone with ears to hear will recognise much of quality on the Noelly G EPs.
I don't like every track, can any one actually say they do like every track on each EP?
But anyone who has the capacity to enjoy good pop music of any sort will attest there's plenty of worthwhile songs to discover: catchy melodies, stellar musicianship and, inevitably, some fairly lame though mostly inoffensive lyrics. And they all repay repeat listens IMO.

I really like most of the EP/compilation tracks: the only one I don't listen to regularly is Wandering Star (dull, Noel on autopilot, no thanks). I think they sounded fresh and we got something for all tastes: traditional Noel-ish tunes like Sail On or We're On Our Way Now, and something more different like Blue Moon Rising or This Is The Place. Definitely not boring at all!
Personal list, from best to worst: Flying On The Ground A Dream Is All I Need To Get ByWe're On Our Way Now Blue Moon Rising Sail OnCome On Outside Rattling RoseThis Is The Place Evil Flower Black Star DancingWandering Star
