The Black & White Sunshine riff always reminds me of Hand in Glove by The Smiths, this early recording from the scrapped Troy Tate sessions in particular. If I remember correctly, Noel mentioned this exact version as his favourite one (and his favourite Smiths song as well).

Man Noel's vocal take on EOTR at the International Magic gig is simply outrageous.

Man he really butchered this song in the studio. I remember the hype on this forum when this soundcheck was leaked in early 2009. Seemed like Noel had got his melodic skills back after the dreary albums preceding it. He should have retained the sparse eeriness of it, maybe a haunted, muted choir in there too to embellish things if need be.
Dead In The Water, by releasing that beauty untouched, feels almost like an apology for murdering If I Had A Gun.

Since he released the acoustic one I think I've listened to the album version maybe twice, that says it all

The Ahhhs Ahhhhs I figured were place holder lines. Nope!!!!! Iβm firmly in the camp that Dead In The Water deserves a studio offering. Broke my heart to hear he was gonna do it for the best of compilation and then decided to stop because he thought the live version was perfect. For me it sounds like Noel is singing in a bathroom. The reverb is too much for me. Beautiful song but not a great recording. Imagine if we got a song like Masterplan recorded like that? Would be a travesty.

The FTTSOM version is probably my favourite however.

It's his second most streamed song (by a wide margin) and, when played live, it is a singalong comparable to Oasis songs. So I don't think most people agree with this. My view is that both the demo and the studio versiΓ³n have its charm: as all great songs, it admits mΓΊltiple treatments

The AA version which retained the demo vocals and has Gary Lucas on guitar is where it is at baby.
AA Version 1: Acoustic They used vocals from Noelβs original demo as they had the most feeling. Features Gary Lucas on guitar. Cello. Grand finale: builds up with Hey Jude style drums to end with a church choir.
For anyone not familiar with Gary Lucasβ¦

What was Shoot A Hole Into The Sun - was that not supposed to be the If I Had A Gun for the AA album or was it just a remix?

I like the album version of IIHAG just fine. The real issue is the lack of another verse. That alone to me kills my enthusiasm for the song. Do we really need that much aaaaaaahh's? I do love when the electric kicks in on the final chorus, it sounds wonderful to me. But I tend to like a 'band sound' over a sparse arrangement 9 times out of 10. Hey, that might be why I'm a Noel fan....
I'd love a huge version of Dead in the Water too, but I'm just glad it's not sitting in Noel's sock drawer like 4 or 5 of our other perspective favorite songs we'll never hear.

Their first version was the acoustic one described above. Their second version was electric full band: T-Rex style drums (replacing Noelβs plodding drums). Strangeboy on guitar, sounding like My Sweet Lord. Linda Lewis backing vocals. Itβs this second version which was remixed into SAHITS. That was a remix, never originally intended for the album. Giving three AA versions in total. X

Speaking of, am I the only one here who didn't have a single NGHFB/Oasis track in their Spotify Wrapped top 100 for 2022?
Also, funnily enough, while typing this I typo'd NGHFB and my Chrome noticed the typo and had the correct acronym saved, presumably because I've typed it enough times.
The duality of man.

All those people are just bored and need to find something else to do. Noel's doing what a lot of those people in those other bands secretly wish they could be doing.

I'm not sure if he's not bothered anymore but he just seems really slow these days at releasing anything. OK we had the 12' inch singles in 2019 but that's nearly four years ago now. And, making us fans wait for so long for new music makes it seem that Noel is getting more lazy as he gets older.
