Time's weird, or I guess it's an abstract concept (and 'flies' the older you get), but I just looked it up and this next year Noel turns 55. That's the same age McCartney was when Be Here Now was released and also the year Liam went on Radio 1 called him and Keith Richards "vagina"s and old farts. McCartney seemed ancient to me then and had about 50 more solo albums, or it seems like, in his discography than Noel has now at the same age, but Noel seems not so ancient. Really both brothers have done a terrific job staying relevant for longer, neither seem like they should be put out to pasture any time soon and there's still significant interest from both hardcores and casuals about what their next moves will be, neither are full blown nostalgia or entirely trading on the past. Remarkable when you consider guitar music is in terminal decline in mainstream pop, though rock will never truly die (I hope) I agree with you, as I was 16 in 1997β¦. Iβm guessing to a 16 year old today they probably feel the same about Noel? Less so Liam Iβd imagine. Seems crazy that we were watching the Beatles Anthology in the mid 90s and old Macca was only early 50s. His liking for a thumbs up gesture did nothing for his street cred to be fair π

It's crazy to think that Noel will be 55 this year and Liam will be 50. Also, you're right both Noel and Liam have done a great job staying relevant for so long.

Bit of a weird one and don;t want to open a proverbial can of worms, but does anyone know more about what exactly happened with Paul and Noel?
The only real comments i can find on it are Liam saying Paul "didnt clap loud enough at the side of the stage", so reading between the lines he was at Noel's gigs looking glum and Noel told him to do one?
I have to say as much as i'm probably "team Liam" if i really was pushed to pick a side with it all, i really hate the way Liam's kids and subsequently Paul have acted towards Noel's side. Last week someone i spoke to someone who was with Andrew Cushin at a festival last year said Liam's kids went out their way to give him a torrent of abuse just because of his association with Noel. If his kids can go after a lad just because he's associated with Noel then the whole thing really is rooted in pure hatred. Very sad.

Pretty much those last two words are the only ones any of us can know about the situation. (And I assume if there is anyone lurking here who does know more the last thing they are going to do is publicly air any more laundry ...)

I would assume a mixture of the criticisms from As It Was (abandoned Liam when he was at his lowest post BDI and divorce) and finding Noel's love of money, fame, famous friends, pretending he makes experimental music etc a bit naff.

Whatever is really going on between Noel and Liam we'll probably never know for sure. But it's a shame that all of this has gone on for so long now.

Alright then, Yank here, so warning, but: Can someone explain why NG hasnβt been βknightedβ by the UK or whomever does it? I see all these less-or-equally-talented people with a βSirβ before their name and Iβm just wondering who else really defined England for a decade more than Noel (and Oasis) did? My lord even my 5 year old nephew knows Wonderwall. Does it take a lot? How does the process actually work? Does the actual Queen have to sign off?
Curious also what differentiates a knight, duke, etc, but thatβs for another day.

^ He said he wouldn't accept one if it was offered one the early 2000s. I think Weller was offered an MBE and turned it down and implied Weller would be disappointed if Noel accepted any "honour" i.e. becoming part of the establishment / aristocracy.
Lennon, of course, renounced his MBE in 1969, that probably counts for something.
Also, in 2000 he wrote about disliking "princes and kings" on GLIO, unless he changed his opinion. On the commentary for Falling Down which shows the monarchy (the comments recorded in 2010) in the video he said he doesn't really have any problems with the likes of Prince Charles. Presumably he would still hate dodgy geezers such as 'Prince' Andrew.
Never forget that the rotten UK honours system awarded a knighthood to Sir Jimmy Saville, which is very telling, and shows the entire thing for a farce. Save for unsung charity workers who deserve an extra boost, to be singled out for praise, it has absolutely no use in a modern Britain. It stays around, like the Monarchy itself, just 'for tradition' sakes.

Just listened to NGHFB 1st album (with b-sides dropped in to make an old fashioned 12" double album feel) ...I think it's the best album.
Everybody's on the run Dream on If I had a gun... The Good Rebel The death of you and me Record machine Aka... what a life! Soldier boys and Jesus freaks I'd pick you every time Aka broken arrow Stranded on the wrong beach Alone on the rope Simple game of genius Let the lord shine a light on me Stop the clocks

"Itβs a sad, sad song that the world keeps singing... Well let love try to sing along"
Love this tune. Needs to be on the 4th album, at least as bonus track.

Does anyone else βremember where they wereβ for pretty much everything Noel and Liam has written/released? Solo and Oasis.
I just sat and looked at every album and song, and I saw the last 25 years in hundreds of tiny, fleeting moments I canβt forget.
Thatβs why weβre all here I guess; but it means that much to me.

Yeah I've thought about this before, or certainly that time in my life/what I was doing. Heathen Chemistry reminds me of my 1st GF at school, DBTT reminds me of finishing my GCSEs, DOYS reminds me of starting Uni etc. Quite nice.

Loved that tour as well. Went 3 times. I do however think it could have been a better realized track listing. I'd have dumped the Oasis leftovers (same them for an Oasis anthology in 2030) and add "Do The Damage", "Freaky Teeth" and "Alone On A Rope". The live version of "Freaky Teeth" was so fucking good. Right mix of keyboards and guitar effects. Its too slow on Chasing Yesterday bonus disc.

I think itβs because the songs are slightly faster, maybe?

I really love The Good Rebel despite the hate it gets on here.
TDOYAM / The Good Rebel was the perfect first solo single from NG.
Doesn't it go back to the Heathen Chemistry sessions? A Liam sung version from back then would be amazing I think. Hopefully one day it turns up on a HC deluxe edition. Possibly even this year for the 20th anniversary!

I've noticed nowadays people just seem to listen to individual songs. Doesn't anyone listen to albums anymore? Only me?

How am I supposed to get a feel for what an artist really sounds like and what their artistic range is if I don't listen to a whole album? But I guess a lot of people don't really follow artists anymore, either.

We are probably a month or so away from news coming out about Record Store Day and Noel's involvement. I'm sure he will contribute as always. Maybe those unfinished Oasis songs? Maybe a covers EP? We shall see. Just please Lord, NO MORE MIXES.
