David Holmes new single is basically the original This Is The Place. ('It’s Over, If We Run Out Of Love', it's on YouTube and probably elsewhere, but I don't know how to embed that here, sorry) There's an interview with him in The New Cue that is good, not really anything new for us here, but still a good read. thenewcue.substack.com/p/the-new-cue-124-february-14-david

A strange one as Noel didn't credit David with the song and insinuated he changed it considerably.
On first listen it seems Noel just bolted on a chorus to David's song. Will have to listen to it more though as I know Noel writes all on his own tunes and wouldn't veer into the territory of having songs written for him. He is the melodic master after all and here it sounds like he's stolen the melody and some lyrics for the verses.

No, no, he did write it when they were working together, sorry, should have said that to begin with.

The song is also on Spotify and the credits show it has been written by David Holmes and Noel Gallagher. So all indicates it's the story we already know: Holmes finished the version of TITP that Noel wrote in the studio by adding a new chorus and with a new singer and production Btw, I like it

Love me some solo Holmes. Big fan of Holy Pictures album. This Is The Place is one of my fav solo Noel tunes. I only wish it was a part of the MOON album because that LP always felt a track short in my eyes.

Nice find.
I thought Holmes was working on finishing an unheard new song, not just a different version of TITP.
Oh well, nice to hear. An element of it really, really reminds me of another song. Sister Ray maybe?

This is weird Nice find indeed. Makes you wonder how it would have sounded on WBTM with Noel's vocals. I prefer Noel's chorus, makes more sense. There's a sample in there but i cant find what it is in my head. Stay tuned.

Noel Record Store Day prediction, it'll be a covers EP. Side A: Mind Games (Lennon) Valentine's Day (Bowie) Side B: You Ain't Going Nowhere (Dylan) This Guys In Love With You (Bacharach) I could see this happening, except switch track 4 for The Mighty Quinn. I really hope we aren't drip fed these covers as b-sides over the next album cycle of singles. Give us new songs Noel. You aren't getting any younger. Absolutely no remixes as b-sides either please.

This David Holmes track is just This Is The One meeting The Is The Place. I’m going to assume this is the track Holmes really wanted on MOON as he thought it was the best of the sessions but Noel was unhappy with it at that time. Could be wrong but it feels like it.

Wow, I much much prefer the David Holmes version. So much better. And the chorus I prefer too, it actually sounds more like a classic Noel chorus I think. Noel's one is such an anticlimax.
Generally though, it confirms what I think of the EPs. While there's interesting production tricks going on in This Is The Place, it's too clean, while the David Holmes version is a bit more wild and a proper onslaught of sound.
And there conjours up a new tracklist - this should have been on Who Built The Moon.

So to get this straight, Noel and David Holmes worked on a song during the 'Who Built the Moon?' sessions called 'Nervous Acid' which was David's favourite from the sessions but it didn't sit right with Noel. Noel then reworked the song, changed the chorus and released it as 'This Is The Place'. David Holmes has then released his own version of the song with the original chorus intact, Raven Violet on vocals, potentially reworked in other ways too, titled 'It's Over, If We Run Out Of Love'. Is this correct?
As one of my favourite NGHFB songs it certainly makes for an interesting listen but I much prefer Noel's interpretation. Seems like it was a good call on Noel's part to keep it in the oven a little longer.

Both versions are good, and feel surprisingly different. I like the cinematic background of Holmes' version which sounds as if directly taken from an 80's soundtrack.
Noel's versión is more energetic. Love the drums and the instrumental middle eight. The chorus is less melodic but fits better with this dance-like treatment of the song
Happy to have both, but I think I prefer Noel's

I would have actually loved if this was the NGHFB single with Violet singing. I've said it on this forum before but I think he should release different tracks with females as lead vocals. The fact that he goes by NGHFB instead of just NG makes it easier to bring in different vocalists. If this was the NGHFB single in 2019 it would have shocked people but it would have been cool.

Oh, the Holmes version is lovely! Could use more of that flexible bass groove and beat Noel's version has in the verses, but I do enjoy that chord progression and the more obviously melodic chorus. The "I remember back when WE were young" is a lovely little turn of tune. Prefer Noel's version overall, but I do think you could merge the two into an ultimate version and it definitely should have made the album proper. It's such a shame Noel doesn't seem to be continuing in the WBTM vein. Him and Holmes still have so many sounds they could explore together.

I totally agree. I love the refrain ' it's over now, if we run out of love', it's got that reach the sky hook in a chorus typical of Noel. Very Madchester feel. Just as a song, it's catchier, and balances the typical Noel melody with the more sonically adventurous one perfectly. Yet it doesn't feel like a typical Noel song merely dressed up - it's all really based on the groove and beat.

Holmes releasing this version will ALMOST CERTAINLY mean that he and Noel have fallen out. Whether Holmes realises it or not.
