Yeah Noel didn't help either, clearly. I'm not against a bit of rivalry, but dissing someone then making half or more of your setlist with their songs to fill stadiums after that is a bit of a laughable move. If you diss, make your own career, with your own strength and material. Liam is the guy who doesn't pay rent and tell the landlord to fuck off really. Noel is the grumpy guy yelling at cloud sometimes, although he seems to be over that phase now. Maybe they both realized it got too far. We'll see next year, when the records are out. Yeah it seems to me they're both taking it easier now, besides the occasional digs here and there (but don't think those ever hurt that much, they both can handle a bit of banter) It should be seen how things go once the Oasis promo stops and they both go back to their thing full time, but I am hopeful they're both reached the place they wanna be in music wise without Oasis, while also still giving a push to the Oasis brand The dream would be : co-headline gig, both playing their own material one after the other, no Oasis. Then an encore with a few Oasis songs.

I don't think Noel helped himself, to be fair Especially during the EPs period he really took a stand to piss off fans even further and antagonise what he thought was a closed-minded fanbase Maybe he had a point, but that attitude is never going to do you any favour Obviously that's not enough to completely re-write reality, but that's how today's world works innit? The easiest it should be to find truthful info, the easiest it actually is to build narratives It's not all bad though, I think NGHFB have stabilised themselves now as whatever the fuck they are Noel didn't help himself, and doesn't help himself still with some of his Boomer-ish views. But I don't really think it's that. It's not Liam's marketing, either. It's simply that Noel is perceived as the reason that there is no Oasis anymore, pure and simple. For many of the well-considered on this board (not me though!), an Oasis reunion is something that will never and should never happen. But it's easy to forget that the same 160,000 who just bought tix to Knebworth would be 10 times as many at a minimum the second it was announced as Oasis. For the younger fans especially, maybe because they didn't really go through the pain of the band's low points and breakup, the dream of Oasis is something completely achievable here and now. And there's only man standing between them and what they want ... Of course, Noel understands all that and I think lately he's less defensive about it, which isn't necessarily a sign of anything, but does seem to be making him happier. Last few pics I've seen of him, he's seemed the most at ease that I can ever remember.

This is a fair point, and I kinda agree with the last part of the post I don't think Noel wants to do it (a reunion), but I do think he's more at peace with the idea of Liam being what people recognise as the Oasis spirit these days, if that means he can go and do his own thing instead while the name and the flame of the band is being kept alive (and let's be honest, even if they're not active anymore that remains one of the primary targets for both, you don't want a b(r)and of the size of Oasis to fade away into obscurity)

If there’s one thing that the brothers will forever agree on it’s to keep the b(r)and’s flame going (I see what you did there.) Not only does it benefit both endlessly … it still keeps their options open for a future no one can fully predict. (They're both doing what they want now, but in both cases, a new phase might come about in a few years. After all, several years ago, very few foresaw the scope of Liam's resurgence.) Of course, it is also the fact that Noel can change his mind at literally any time … 5 minutes from now or 15 years from now, barring any tragedies … that keeps the hopped-up kids harping on him. Having the power will always put him in the unenviable position of being the one who says no.

Noel's traditional lane is very crowded. There remains lots of MOR indie shit. His attempts to do something different have not been well received by anyone outside of his freaky hardcore fanbase. His live show is plodding. His opinions on most things seem lazy, dated and boorish. He is incredibly short. I just think he needs to go away for a while. It is not a good time to be Noel. The reaction to him trying to feud with Lewis Capaldi was telling. People do not want an old, incredibly short opinionated rich man telling them what is what.

Funny thing is, when people criticize Noel for pissing off fans with his EPs and saying stuff people don't like, in a way he's much more rock n roll than Liam who hired some world class pop songwriters to get back into the scene.
Not an attack on Liam, happy he's doing well because the world deserves some Liam Gallagher, but Noel being himself and doing what he wants to be doing is great as well.

I think quite a few people can't accept that what Noel likes to do now isn't what they'd like him to do, so they deflect it and blame it on him being a sell-out or pleasing his wife's taste in music

Noel's problem is that when he saw the negative reaction to WBTM and especially Holy Mountain he lumped everyone in as cavemen who don't understand that kind of music, when a lot of fans do have a diverse taste in music but still thought it was largely poor, bar a few tracks. So he basically pissed off Oasis fans at both ends of the spectrum. He will still always get to number 1 with his albums, there is still enough goodwill there from Oasis fans, it's just in comparison to Liam where he is lagging behind at this moment in time.

Noel does talk a load of bullshit at times though like that time. I think that Noel's dance music direction is ok but it's certainly not his best.

Different thought of the day, listened to HFB1 in its entirety for the first time in a while yesterday. Man, the first half of that album is unironically great. Yeah, the production lets down IIHAG a bit, and a few of the later tracks are filler, but I forgot how enjoyable the album is.
Nostalgia from the album turning 10 might play a role tho.

So, 10 years of NGHFB today made me go back to it after a few months since the last time I've got to say I expected it to be a "heavier" listen but it actually went by pretty swiftly It is flawed, the production takes away instead of highlighting what may be Noel's best songwriting since the 90s, pace is pretty much the same throughout, the drums are too high in the mix, it all seems a bit too compressed and with not enough depth and room to breath for every sound. Yet it's hard not to notice it's a great collection of songs with some remarkable melodies, and that's enought to carry it and make it an enjoyable listen and a worthy record.
THE BEST:
- Everybody's On The Run: never had a problem with the epic production on this one because I think the song's enough to sustain it. Great verse, brilliant chords progression going into the chorus, lyrics are good too, the best way to open an album.
NOT THE BEST BUT UP THERE:
- If I Had A Gun: had not listenet to this version since the acoustic one came out, and I got reminded of the reason. It's so heavily produced it hurts, but it's a melodic masterpiece. One of Noel's best choruses, the most romantic love lyrics, and that "and waiting for the moment/for my heart to be unbroken by the seams" is genuinely one of his all time peaks.
- The Death Of You And Me: the brass arrangement elevates it, but the tune and Noel's vocals are a strong foundation themselves. It manages to be catchy and infectious without being over the top. The "I'm watching my tv, or is it watching me?" bit is gold.
- AKA...What a Life: I keep thinking they didn't quite manage to capture the energy it's got live, but it's a great tune nonetheless. A glimpse into what was to come for HFB as well. Love the piano and the little guitarwork in the background. Again a great vocal performance too.
THE ONES WHICH ARE PRETTY GOOD:
- AKA...Broken Arrow: again a great chorus, one of Noel's best in my opinion. A really nice little bassline as well, should've been even higher in the mix in my opinion. My only complaint is they could've done a bit more with the break in the middle.
- Stranded On the Wrong Beach: love it when Noel goes slightly darker. Another fantastic chorus, again could've done more with the solo, but otherwise a really nice track with an extremely cool vibe.
- Soldier Boys and Jesus Freaks: used to slag this one off, now I've completely changed my mind. Lovely arrangement and the brass section does a great job in the middle of it. Unusual lyrics for Noel, but in a good way. The melody is maybe not as in your face as the rest of the album, but once you get it you notice how good it is.
THE DECENT/AVERAGE ONES:
Dream On: it can be annoying, but there's some good in there. The verse is solid and the brass in the background do the job. It goes on for at least 30-40 seconds more than it should've though. A nice idea, not the best execution.
Record Machine: the production is extremely bland here, and the chorus lyrics are weak, although I don't mind the verse. There was no need for neither the orchestra or the choir. With that said, the build-up going into the guitar solo and then the middle eight take the spotlight and save the track. It's alright, but a wasted opportunity overall
THE BAD:
Stop the Clocks: now, if they stripped it down and made it a semi-acoustic thing with minimal production, it could've worked. It's just not good enough for this epic production that wants to turn it into Champagne Supernova, it lacks the substance and ends up just dragging for 4 minutes. I save the guitar solo, a nice touch, still wish A Simple Game Of Genius closed the album though

Is there a chance for a 10th anniversary release with extra tracks ? With his best of out, it's unlikely, but who knows.
I have a soft spot for this record because i was listening to it going to work at 5am back in the day. Listening to Everybody's on the Run on a bike when it's 5 C° out and imagining you're in some kind of western movie. It was very cinematic.
its western / circus themed sound (The Death Of You And Me) and videos are my jam.
My ultimate NGHFD tracklist:
1. Everybody's on the Run 2. Dream On 3. If I Had a Gun... 4. The Death of You and Me 5. (I Wanna Live in a Dream in My) Record Machine 6. AKA... What a Life! 7. Soldier Boys and Jesus Freaks 8. AKA... Broken Arrow 9. Let The Lord Shine A Light On Me 10. (Stranded On) The Wrong Beach 11. Stop the Clocks
The addition of Let The Lord Shine A Light On Me give it a bit of depth, when the last songs are just quick tunes.
But the start of the record is amazing. I also love Dream On, i dont get why people dislike that song. Broken Arrow is huge too, very underrated tune.
Stop the Clocks and Record Machine a bit meh, but they do the job. That's what happens when you record a song 1 million times.

The only songs I really like on Noel's debut album are Everybody's On The Run (although that bloody choir spoil it a bit for me) The Death Of You And Me AKA What A Life Soldier Boys And Jesus Freaks AKA Broken Arrow (Stranded On) The Wrong Beach And that's it. I never even listen to the album anymore.

10 years already!!
I remember being very disciplined and not listening to any leaks, as has been the case for every Gallagher release since.
I loved it at first. The second half does drag a bit and needs desperate injection of energy to save from ploddingness but the start is strong, regardless of the Sardy's heavy handed drab production. Compared to the more colourful efforts of Who Built The Moon, it does seem surprisingly tame but still prefer it to Chasing Yesterday.
Everybody's On The Run is still an instant classic. Love it, and still the opener for any future playlist/setlist of ideal High Flying Birds songs.

It is really blowing my fucking mind that this album is now 10 years old. I remember the day it leaked. I was waiting for a bus to travel from New York City back to Hoboken, NJ. I saw the forum pages jump like 30 pages in an hour, knew the leak was on. I needed to rush home to download it fearing the links would be pulled by the time I walked through the door. Well I made it folks. HFB forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was it a perfect debut? No. It could have been better but it is a fun record and I loved the tour.

HFB is now my least favourite NGHFB álbum but I will always remember it as the one that made me recover my faith in Noel's songwriting. After getting like 2 good songs every 3 years in the OOs, HFB was finally an Oasis-related album I could enjoy from start to finish. This is were Noel finally recovered his melodic mojo and has maintained it in good shape until today. Of course, the cultural significance of his new songs will never approach the Oasis days but these have been 10 years where the excitement waiting for a new Noel song disappointed very few times (BSD, I am looking at you), while the previous 10 years were one frozen disappointment after another

Except for maybe the drums on If I Had a Gun and the entirety of Stop the Clocks, I don't have much of a problem with the production. And the only song I never cared for is Soldier Boys and Jesus Freaks. It just kinda goes nowhere. For me, the second part of the album is just as strong as the first.
I'd definitely listen to this over Who Built the Moon any day of the week.
Shit artwork and not enough B-sides though.

I’m OK we didn’t get a reissue (on green vinyl/picture disc, lol). There was too much time between it and Chasing Yesterday.
The choir was better used on DOYS and that last Oasis tour than on NGHFB.

Good album. What a Life, Broken Arrow, and The Death of You and Me are among his very best solo tunes.
Alone on the Rope and Let the Lord Shine a Light on Me should have found a way on there, though.
