If he were still those things? Or if it hadn't ended badly? Or if the public hadn't turned on him? Of course not. Because that would mean he is a success. That of course, isn't true anymore. That's the reality of it. Outside from us fans, nobody really cares about Liam Gallagher anymore. That's what a legacy is all about after all, how one is remembered. To most, he's the guy you joke about at parties if his name is even brought up at all or if anyone even recognizes his name. If you want to call Oasis a success, I'm game. The legacy continues. Many all around the world, fans or not still understand the importance they had in the 90's and how they continue to influence developing bands today. But as far as Liam Gallagher goes, he's a failure. He can't sell records. He can't sing. He's not really liked. That's the legacy he's leaving unless things turn around for him. I don't like to say it anymore than you want to hear, but that's what this thread is about. I'd love to pretend otherwise, but that wouldn't be honest or realistic. Typical Noel brigade at its best. The man you joke about at parties? Your parties sound fucking shit mate. No reason to get hostile. Just an opinion. Also, you wrongly assume that I am team Noel. I'm very much team Liam. Have been since day 1.

Of course he's gonna record again. He is totally capable of doing it, and it would probably bring him more satisfaction than anything he has ever done. If he will do a solo record, with a wise promotion, good singles and all that stuff ? My bet is that then he can compete with Noel's solo albums easily in terms of commercial success. And that would be a perfect final chapter of their story. They're both great, and Liam totally deserves bigger reward and respect than he is getting right now. I wouldn't give it up now if i was him. All he needs is a cool cover and 3 songs as good as I'm Outta Time. It's easy. I'm not buying that story that Noel is the talented one and Liam is a knobhead or whatever. People who are saying that just don't get this band right. If Liam will never do anything musically again on his own, i will be dissapointed, but still HE was the lead singer of Oasis. That's not bad. I also don't think his personal life is our buisness, or his addictions, or bad behaviour matter that much for that case. This is not a career center, or a beauty contest, this is rock n roll, it's not about your life, it's about music you make. The main mistake he made was forming Beady Eye probably. They were never meant to be a successful band. This. Liam is every bit as famous as Noel. You give him some time to create something special and he has every chance of shutting a lot of people up. He's had two chances already. Both failed. I think you give him more credit than you should. In the eyes of the fanboy, they didn't fail, which is why I will cherish both records till the day I die. But neither records shut anyone, except for the fanboys up. It just made them laugh. I'm not sure the hardcore fans really count towards a legacy. We're heavily biased. Maybe he will go solo and blow us away. We have to wait and see. But to assume that he will create something special before you've even heard it is blatantly begging the question.

It's not as if this sort of stuff is learned candidly (sometimes it is) and then leaked. It's often Liam's irresponsibility that spills into the public audience and he seems to like making a show of it, or at least used to. Those things, unfortunately, follow your career and should. A public figure is not above scrutiny nor is anyone else. I would love to say it's just about the music. But it really isn't. The image the artists puts forth is as important as the music they produce. And this holds true on these forums. Up until someone points out the bad antics, in which the image of the person is suddenly dismissed. One can hold separate opinions about the music and about the person. I would also disagree that Beady Eye were never meant to be a success. I think if you asked Liam, he might feel differently. Who would start something with the intent of failure?

Why do you have to be "team X" per se? Being a fan doesn't mean you have to love and worship everything someone does. You can criticize things.
There's also no need to insult people or to force your opinions on them. If people politely disagree, then they do. What's the problem.

I am team Gallagher. But Liam has always been my favorite. And that's what I was getting at. I didn't mean to bring about flashbacks of 2009-2011. Bad times.

Liam doesn't get the attention that he deserves and that Noel gets. For example if Liam was to release lets just say LATD it wouldn't get half the recognition. The best song post Oasis has to be flick of the finger but Liam got no credit what so ever for it.

I honestly don't know what Liam can do at this point. I don't see him making a solo album, since he's said he's not a solo artist and is only part of a band, plus I'm not sure it would work anyway. He's already earned his legend status, but sadly at this point, it feels like he's gonna fade away instead of burn out.

I don't know the exact stories behind his personal life, but i'm pretty sure it's not such a uncommon thing in the world of showbiz or rock stars or even in regular people's life nowadays so i wouldn't say it reflects on his public image that much. Most people forgot about him, that's his problem now. Most people don't read this forum. Most people are in China actually. As to Beady Eye, it surely felt like a right thing to do after the split, and they were a good band, but looking at it now, the sticker 'what's left from Oasis since the main songwriter quit' wasn't helping Liam. I think he has better chances on his own. Maybe that's what Beady Eye were for, to realise that. And if he won't do anything now, then yeah, he will become a perfect target for tabloids and shit to dig in his personal life.

Any rock star has so much to ridicule if you want to sit there and criticise. John Lennons family life, Mick Jaggers shrivelled face, Bono's sunglasses? If you don't have anything to ridicule then you aren't really doing it right as a rock star are you? Are you? ....Chris Martin?

Music is subjective after all, just as is ones perception of an individual. Anyone can be ridiculed. Rock star or not. On that we can probably agree (I hope). Chris Martin is often ridiculed, especially by his non-fans. He might play it safe a bit more, but is there anything really wrong with that? Could it be partly the reason why he is so successful? Maybe. Maybe not. In any case, he's done something right and he's reaping the benefits. Good on Chris Martin. Even rock starts have to mature sometime. There is an age where that wild flavor and irresponsibility just isn't appropriate or admirable any longer. Just my opinion.

Since this thread has gotten a bit heated I'd just like to say for the record I kind of like Liam even though I think he's a yobbo. I'm rooting for him to get through this difficult time. I suppose I fall into the "Team Noel" camp but I'm not blind to how badly Noel treats him. Noel's lucky Liam has never knocked his head off and shit down his neck to be honest. To so completely belittle your own brother repeatedly in interviews is just incredibly bad form. However much of a tool Liam can be his brother is worse and all his charm and humor don't change that.
Noel has all the power in that relationship and he's not real nice about it. Poor Liam is stuck having to bite his lip through most of it and that has to be immensely frustrating. I reckon a lot of his bad behavior stems from that. I don't really see Liam as the joke alluded to above, I see him more as a victim. I have to admit I'd get a kick out of it if Liam's next record (if there ever is one) was a big hit and Noel's next opus flopped badly. That would be very interesting were it to happen. Noel could use some humbling. Apparently Heathen Chemistry didn't quite do the trick.

The greatest rock n roll singer of his generation and one of the best British front men of all time. Yes the style and attitude all made Oasis a rollercoaster ride but his greatest attribute was his ability to turn an average song in to an excellent one. To drag tunes up from mediocrity. That's a rare talent indeed. One additional point I would make to that which i didn't include in my post is the comments along the lines of "he was just the singer" or "Noel wrote all the best songs". Well the same could be levelled at Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend for another classic British Rock N' Roll band, but even with Pete's songs would it have been The Who without Daltrey's voice and persona fronting them onstage?

A success for me I mean, his career with BE didn't go that well at least commercially, and we know how much part of the general public despise him,but legacy tends to grow with time and when it's all been and done he'd still be able to say that he was one of the most iconic frontmen ever, with one of the most unique voices in rock (when he was in his prime),he sang on two of the greatest records ever and he also was part of a band that became a cultural phenomenon in the 90s...and that's what people will remember
I'm team Noel btw

The people you allude to sound like middle class wine drinkers who ask for Adele or Sam Smith to be next up on the Spotify playlist. Liam's attitude of not giving a fuck or caring what people think is something anyone should take on and if they did, the world would be a happier and more care free place. Who would rather be Chris Martin than Liam Gallagher ffs?
