Peter Bjorn and John are back with a new album today! It's been five years since their last album Gimme Some. It's a great album. Have been listening to it the whole day. Breakin' Point is not an album with a great story, it's more like a compilation of catchy pop songs. I loved (and I still do) their "Young Folks"!

Where's that Ágætis byrjun reissue? You know strange as it sounds, that's one of those rare albums that gives me complete fulfilment - I wouldn't be too fussed if there is no plans for a reissue as it's just utterly complete as it is - I don't think I've got any sense of wonder left about that album.

Paul Draper's (Mansun) new solo release "EP ONE" is out now, features Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree and The Anchoress (who also released a quality album in January). Solid songwriting, great vocals and tight production all around.

The Rifles announced their new album for 19th of August, single Numero Uno out today. Sounds good but not great - of course they don't usually release the best song as the lead single, so I'm still optimistic.

I know some people lost interest when they turned away from their heavier early sound, but their last album (2014) was excellent and their most successfull one yet. They definitely have an ear for good melodies and a distinctive sound.

Most on here won't like this but I love this newer generation of Hip-Hop/Rap and their sense of melody, personality, and fun. This is great

Heard the other day that Tom Chaplin's solo debut is on the horizon. I'll check it out for nostalgia reasons, but I don't have high expectations for it. The reason is that, though he wrote two or three songs in Keane's very early days (when they still had a guitarist!) which range from good to interesting but forgettable, it's unknown if he could write enough material to fill an album that would be worth listening to. I'm quite concerned that he'd fall into that cliched singer-songwriter image (because let's be honest, he already resembles one). I think we're unlikely to get anything better than the very mediocre Strangeland, which is quite worrying. But I'd love for him to prove me wrong.

It's been a great year for new music for me. I've enjoyed new Bowie (Jan), Iggy Pop (Mar), Travis (Apr), Ashcroft (May), RHCP and Neil Young (Jun). That's 6 new records in 6 months.
I'm thinking the Hives shoudl probably have a new one soon? The last one was okay but I love all their other albums.

Whitney released their debut album Light Upon The Lake today. It's really good. Especially The Falls, Dave's Song, No Woman and the song below. It's pop with a 60s and 70s vibe. Take a little bit of Woods and a down to earth ELO and the solo stuff from George Harrison or Paul McCartney and you have their sound. Perfect summer album. Circling back on this post. I went and downloaded this album immediately after reading it. Been listening to the album on and off for over 2 weeks. What a pleasant surprise. I really dug Smith Westerns debut album but they broke up way too early and I lost interest in following what happened next. Well this is what happened, the drummer and second guitarist formed their own group. A very fun album full of California sunny rays, pacific highways and George Harrison slide guitars. Perfect summer record. I recommend to all.

While I certainly appreciate and respect what music they make, I don't always enjoy it that much. I like The Bends and OK Computer (old news I know) but haven't really got into anything since Hail to the Thief. What's the 1 best song on the new one in your opinion?

Could be Daydreaming or The Numbers. On another day it could be Burn The Witch or Identikit. Tough call.

Barry Gibb is releasing his second solo album in November. Titles 'In The Now'.
Can't wait.
