It's nice to see him straight in the studio between tours rather than his usual "I'm knackered, I need a year off to watch football and World War documentaries and to drink gallons of tea before I can even think about doing a days work again" chat. The lucky bastard. Well he has to, it's all part of the grand plan. Three solo albums then back with the band, needs to get on with this so he can release it late 2016 or early 2017, tour through first half of 2017, Be Here Now reissue August 2017, 2018 off and then Oasis reunion in 2019 ten years after they split. It's all been planned this way from the beginning, Beady Eye didn't take off like they thought it would but Liam will have to sit tight and play up the feud until then to maximise the moolah when they announce their reunion. Or he's just bored being at home... just going off topic, was it ever solved what Liam actually meant by saying he would be him to throw in the towel and not some roadie from the 80s? that all seemed odd with coachella being cancelled then beady eye splitting. I dont think there was ever a "masterplan", Noel might be secretly thinking that theres a possibility of it happening (I still think Noel will when he wants to stop touring) but I doubt there was ever a plan laid out.

He posted on his instagram that he's back in the studio, so that's cool. Keeping busy It's nice to see him straight in the studio between tours rather than his usual "I'm knackered, I need a year off to watch football and World War documentaries and to drink gallons of tea before I can even think about doing a days work again" chat. The lucky bastard. He is in Madrid at moment watching Real Madrid - Manchester City.

The thought occurred to me today that given that Noel is writing this album in the studio and that only 5 tracks are completed so far, we may not get many b-sides in the next album cycle. Unless he recycles some old demos.

Unless he recycles some old demos. Not greatly mithered by that, to be honest. If his b-sides since starting the High Flying Birds up haven't been just plain awful songs (The Good Rebel and Birthday Cake), they've been poorly recorded (Freaky Teeth). In fact, I'd say Alone On A Rope is the only non-album track he's done so far that's been any cop. And he didn't even bother making that one a proper b-side!

Was that a b-side? The Good Rebel was shit, Alone On the Rope is one of his best songs since the 90s and Let the Lord Shine a Light on Me was decent as was I'd Pick You Everytime and "Freaky" . The others have been shit.

Too good for b-sides: A Simple Game Of Genius Let The Lord Shine A Light On Me Alone On The Rope Do The Damage Revolution Song Freaky Teeth
Good b-sides (not good enough for an album, but not too bad) Leave My Guiter Alone The Good Rebel I'd Pick You Everytime Here's A Candle (For Your Birthday Cake)

ASGOG should have been the Champagne Supernova of Noel's solo career, except instead of nostalgic and euphoric, dark, brooding, groovy, and menacing. Instead it's seven minutes and nineteen seconds of a dull plod.
I refuse to believe that it was anything other than sabotage that could have fucked over this song this badly.

Same with Record Machine and Stop The Clocks. There is so much potential in these 3 songs, (especially RM and ASGOG). A real shame.

Kind of reminds me of a school project: You know you're passing the class, so you don't give a toss about the final outputs and just throw in the rest without any kind of effort. Poor. But the album sold, and Noel got his dosh and thus his A+, regardless.

I would love to have 3 b-sides like Leave My Guitar Alone. I wish he release his first single two weeks before the album instead of 6 months...

Noel needs to step into the 21st century. After album number 3 I'd actually be quite happy to be milked for a solo b-sides album. As most of his b-sides/bonus tracks are spread out over vinyl only releases, YouTube & the like I rarely listen to any of them, even the ones I really like. AOTR needs to find a home on a proper release!

There's already enough material for one , but he should probably still wait until after album 3. An album with Freaky Teeth, Revolution Song, Do the Damage, A Simple Game of Genius, Alone on the Rope and Let the Lord Shine a Light on it would be pretty decent. I see very little value in Leave My Guitar Alone and Birthday Cake, but add in one or two good bonus tracks from album #3 and we have pretty much album quality.

The AA remixes could be on there too, I still really like Shoot a Hole into the Sun and the What a Life remix.
