He's also toured with King Crimson, so not sure if he even had the time. Do you mean the other Stacey, Jeremy, the drummer or did that one also tour with them?

"Formerly a member of Oasis" .. eh I don't fucking think so. Maybe not a member as such, but he was highly influential for Noel in particular. Engineering, Co-Producing and playing Bass for the early 2000's era. He was probably just as important as an actual member. Did the solo on Roll It Over IIRC

Would have been a great addition to the band in the 2000s, but I think Noel was more preoccupied with getting band members who looked cool rather than played cool.

You're fond of that one, aren't you?... It's the truth. They became a brand in 2005. Things were way to unprofessional in 2000 and 2002. Noel leaving the tour, awful album, Liam walking away during concerts. Something I thought about the other day: when Noel or Liam left in 2000 and in some concerts in 2002 they continued. Why didn't Noel play that cancelled festival gig in 2009 without Liam? Why didn't Liam finished those last 3 or 4 dates?

I heard a rumour that Noel fell out with the Staceys following Jeremy's departure. Make of that what you will.

Make of that what you will. didnt Jeremy leave due to his commitment to something else? so Noel was the one who wasnt happy? I wouldnt of worried if your going to pull in chris sharrock, least hes got a technique other than smashing the fuck out the drums for the duration of the song. mind you Noel thinks hes the shit so probably couldnt compute why someone would want to do something other than work with THE noel gallagher.

Good point! BUT Paul Stacey is still a better guitarist than Andy Bell and Gem Archer from what I've heard when he's cameoed on Oasis/Noel songs.

No. Andy Bell is the most underutilized musician that Oasis ever employed. He's a guitarist first and foremost and was a bassist in Oasis. Go listen to Ride or even better, go see Ride in their current re-incarnation. Or here's a video where he's making a 12 string Rickenbacker sound like an electric sitar in the first two minutes and continues to shred for the majority of the track: Gem there's an argument there vs Stacey, but not Andy Bell.

Good point well made, but even then, Bell never utilised his strengths as much in latter era Ride, certainly not Hurricane No 1, or Oasis or Beady Eye. Were the songs themselves too rigid to offer some guitar flair?

Were the songs themselves too rigid to offer some guitar flair? Latter day Ride were going through the motions and there was a lot of friction between him and Mark Gardener. It sometimes happens with young bands who find success early on. He clearly joined Oasis for the $ more than the creative part. He seems to have refound his mojo since reuniting Ride and they have a new record out later this year that will say a lot. Go see them if the opportunity presents itself. I've gone twice and will go again as soon as they return to NYC, both were two of the best shows I've seen since living here and Andy is a big reason for the enjoyment of those gigs. I would say that the tracks in Bell/Archer era Oasis and Beady Eye were just of a different ilk than Ride. Oasis was more rigid certainly with Noel having such a influence on decision making and the majority of Beady Eye's catalogue just isn't very interesting.

I think Andy was a huge Oasis fan which clouded the stuff he was writing for the band. He was a very good bassist and Gem a perfect fit, it's just that in hindsight the band would have been better off it stayed as Liam singing Noel's songs.

The last two Ride albums also showcased Andy's "new" retro-rock songwriting style that carried over into his Hurricane/Oasis work. I feel the change highlighted his weaknesses (not great at lyrics etc) and downplayed his strengths (such as ballsy guitar playing).

Jeremy left to join King Crimson, one of the most technically demanding bands within the "classic rock" spectrum. I've said it a million times on the forum, but he's a great drummer who was severely underutilised in the HFB. Any complaints about his drumming should be directed at Noel, who no doubt instructed him to play like that.
I can imagine Noel not being happy with Jeremy ditching him to join Robert Fripp, whose musical values are very different. Noel's ego wouldn't allow him to take that lightly.

Was looking back on an older interview with David Holmes and found this nugget, don't know if it's been mentioned, "Noel's straightforward, he normally just reacts - he either goes 'yeah, that's great' or 'no, that's not for me', or to be perfectly blunt 'no that's fookin' shite'. It's been really good, Keefus has been playing on it - it's been a fun experience. He's super talented and a joy to work with." Looked up what he meant by Keefus and found this guy: Keefus Ciancia. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keefus_CianciaLooks like he's mostly a composer, has worked with the phenomenal T. Bone Burnett, and is a keyboardist.
