Is the listening party an American press thing? I remember there were listening parties for Noel's previous albums too.

Is the listening party an American press thing? I remember there were listening parties for Noel's previous albums too. Two reasons: 1)They do it to avoid album leaks actually. It's easier to gather a group of folks together at once than to send out a bunch of un-traceable copies that might get leaked. From what I can tell, it doesn't much matter normally. Almost everything leaks at some point anyway. 2) If you wine and dine music industry people then you have better odds of getting more airplay/media coverage.

Found this on Twitter. Now, I am afraid that they linked Stop the Clocks. Wheatus? As in Teenage Dirtbag Wheatus? I've got two tickets to Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, baby.

I'm just curious because it seems they only do it in US and it's not a must but Noel (or his team) prefer doing it? Compared to sending copies out it takes more commitment to organize and socialize with a bunch of people to win a favor.

My thought is they aren't releasing anything until the U2 tour is over because just putting one tune in the setlist would seem out of place and he wants to redo the setlist before his own tour. And releasing it and not playing it would be even worse.

The single will probably drop on Monday, just in time to piss off Liam. After the U2 tour seems a bit too far away, especially since they announced the whole thing already.

No way noel is pushing that album from now till then with no new material. That would be a horrendous marketing idea all around.

So far no capitalizing on the momentum of the week and ending it with a bang. Just, nothing. Granted it's only 7am where Noel is, but still the day will be mostly over in the UK and Europe by the time anything happens and most people will be on to the week-end. That's not good marketing. Neither is waiting though so once again Noel's management strikes again! I also agree with the concerts sellouts before a track theory. They're scared and they're showing it. Follow the money. Hopefully that only speaks to the psychedelic angle and not how good it is. All that said I hope I'm wrong and I'm blasting It's A Beautiful World on the way home from work today.

I wonder how much he'll play live. It sounds like there's at least two instrumentals on there and I imagine some other stuff that'd be hard to replicate. I wouldn't be disappointed if it was only a few from the new album and he showed a bit more imagination with his back catalogue.

Most of us are assuming he wouldn’t release a single next week with Liam’s album coming out. But maybe he would do that. I don’t think it’s smart but Noel’s team always does curious things (mostly bizarre and poor) when it come to releasing music.

5pm UK time for the new single?
As everyone finishes work and starts getting in the mood for the weekend Noel drops the new single?
That would be very exciting, especially for those who have got gig tickets.
It could also be 9am next friday just to piss Liam off.

Maybe Noel's team was concerned about being overshadowed by a potential As You Were leak (or Liam simply choosing to stream it on say Pitchfork a week early?). Something about that preview video gave me the impression that was all we were going to get for a while. It was too well done to just become irrelevant in a week. I'm guessing Noel waits until As You Were hype dies down a bit...possibly Oct. 13...until we hear a full track. Seems like Noel has taken everything pretty slow this album cycle.

I'd be very surprised if Noel releases the single next week and I'm just not on board with the argument that he would do it just to piss Liam off. Two reasons:
1. He's been vocal in the past about how it is unfair for two competing bands to release a single at the same time (there was once a little single called Country House...)
2. He seems to be at a point in his life (and has been there for about seven years now) where he'd rather not think about or talk about Liam. Releasing a single at the same time would push a conflict into the spotlight that he seems dead set on avoiding.
