part of me has been tempted to cancel my pre-order based on all the reviews- personal and otherwise. but i guess i'll just stick it out. not expecting much really from the middle of the album, that's for sure. If you like the singles you'll prob like a great deal of it. Everything Now Signs of Life Creature Comfort Electric Blue Put Your Money On Me We Don't Deserve Love All worth the price of admission.

I think it might have taken me till tonight to realise that this is one of the saddest songs ever written: I mean the album is called Funeral after all.......

Chemistry, not so much. If it had had a minute chopped off it, you could go 'Well, the New Orleans feel to it is something new for them' - but as is, it's just asking to be skipped.

And I agree with them. I know that AF is always working hard on every album and that they think about every detail. So I was really careful and altough I knew on first listen that something isn't right, I listened to this album over and over again until I finally admitted to myself that this album is shit. Not ok but worse than other AF albums, not average but shit.
When you are biggest band in the world and you have 4 years to write 10 songs and half of them are shit, and it's not like that second half is 100% brilliant, then it is time to call things with right name.
Critics would destroy Oasis if they released something like that. We are making fun of Little James after so many years but things like ''Maybe there's a good God, damn'' are much worse than that. And that's not even the worst song on this album.
And I was really in the mood for this album after hearing EN and CC.

Creature Comfort got me really excited for this album but once I heard Peter Pan and Chemistry back to back, I knew that my expectations were too high.... Also, it says a lot about an album when a song like Signs of Life is actually one of the outstanding tracks

That pitchfork review is horrible to read. People that use verbs like "to transcend" are always fishy to me

5.6 is too harsh, I'd say it's strong six to a light seven. All it needs is a big track in Chemistry's place and it'd be fine. That middle has too many throwaway-sounding tracks in a row.

Finally heard the album. Was too late on the links. First play I’m dissapointed like most of you. I hadn’t read any reviews. I seem to like Peter Pan and Chemistry better than most but there is nothing memorable about them. Having both versions of infinite content seems like they are just including the demo version. It’s basically the same song just with different instrumentals where as Everything Now besides the strings is a completely different song. Really like Put yer Money on Me. The most Daft Punk influenced songs of the bunch. The beat that starts the song and goes through out could’ve been on the Tron soundtrack. We Don’t Deserve Love might be my favorite track on the album. The harmonies in the chorus are some of their best and the verse reminds me of something that could have been on Springsteen’s the River.

Pitchfork's review—lyrical and musical stasis—sums it up well for me. It's an album with an EP's worth of songs; the sound of a band who thought they could write a disco album, lost inspiration and interest about halfway through, but released it nonetheless. A satirical marketing campaign is all well and good, but the best way to sell an album is to fill it with good music.
Back to the drawing board.

I'd probably give the album a 6.5 to 7. Everything Now is not as good as it probably should have been given the 4 years off and the creative/edgey nature of the group. This feels like an album with big intentions but comes off like a minor work. It is the middle section of the album that really brings it down in my opinion. Just weak songs and don't tie the strong start and finish to the record together. It does however contain some moments of brilliance I will return to. Overall this record is going to divide the fan base for years to come. No idea what direction the band will go into next. They are now firmly a million miles away from Funeral.
Everything_Now (Continued) - Too brief of interlude for me. Wish it was at least 2 minutes. I get that they needed it to make the "infinite loop" work but thats a cheap gimmick and will be silly down the road and severely date the album.
Everything Now - Our first introduction to the album and its a killer single at that. Totally dug the vibe and direction of this track. Smart sarcastic lyrics. Hard not to tab your foot to this one. Can't wait to see it performed live.
Signs of Life - To me this sounds like The Clash's "Magnificent Seven" meets Blondie's "The Rapture". This is another highlight of the album for me and I don't care that Win raps the days of the week. This sounds like Reflektor era Arcade Fire and to me that is a great thing.
Creature Comfort - A real banger of a tune from the live videos. I'm looking forward to hearing this one at MSG in September. I know a lot of people think the lyrics are kinda superficial and cheesy when Win mentions suicide and listening to their debut album Funeral. I can understand that opinion for sure. Seems like a Bono moment of thinking you are more important than you actually are in the world. The production on this song, like pretty much the entire album, is fantastic.
Peter Pan - A daft fucking title for starts. In my head I thought this was gonna be the "Bones" of Everything Now. The Radiohead rocker that name drops Peter Pan towards the end. Not sure why I felt a connection when none exists at all except for the fictional character. Its definitely nowhere near as good as "Bones". I like the instrumentation but the lyrics are lacking and corny. It has grown on me a little bit over the last week but its nothing special. I could easily never listen to it again as well.
Chemistry - Another minor piece of work in my eyes. New Orleans and reggae infused track. I knew that living in New Orleans over the last 3-5 years was gonna force its way onto LP5 in same shape or form. I just didn't realize it was gonna feel so contrived. The only thing I like about this song is the Zeppelin style guitar boogies. Please take this out of the current tour setlist Win. I'd rather other songs off this record.
Infinite Content - A hard fast punky rocker the thankfully only lasts 1 min and 37 seconds. This song makes "Joan of Arc" sound like November Rain. This is a total throw away tune for me. When the track list of the album leaked and the known theme of the album was societies need for everything now, in my head I imagined an electric theme song, like Super Symmetry or Porno. Not a rocker like this. A poor rocker like this! Sounds cheap.
Infinite_Content - I actually like this country western version of the previous track mentioned above. I only wish it was longer. They should have just included a longer version of this song. We didn't need a rocker and a country version back to back. They both feel inconsequential.
Electric Blue - Oh baby I love this song. Regine takes lead vocals and it reminds me of a song you could find on a Grimes record. Very cool lyrics which kinda relate back to themes in "Creature Comfort". The production on this song is top notch. You can almost taste the Daft Punk magic. I'm assuming Thomas Bangalter was lead producer on this song but I haven't read the production credits yet.
Good God Damn - This song had me at a cross roads for awhile. Didn't really appreciate it on first listen. Seemed so subdued. I like the production and the little guitar riffs. I guess it's a follow up or different perspective on the girl in "Creature Comfort". You could argue that the song is samey and just keeps repeating itself over and over.
Put Your Money On Me - A future Arcade Fire classic in waiting. Killer intro bass line. Win singing in a falsetto initially. Who knew a song about going against the Mormon religion could sound so glorious. I absolutely LOVE the horn section that comes in when Win sings about "Trumpets of angels call for my head". Thrilling stuff. They better start playing this live. Would be crazy not to. This is peak form Arcade Fire.
We Don't Deserve Love - The start of this song sounds like a country western song from another planet. I can't quite describe the otherworldly sounds created by Daniel Lanois' steel guitar pedal. It is very unique to my ears. Like "Put Your Money On Me" this is another Arcade Fire classic and need to be added to the setlist ASAP. Regine is phenomenal singing backup through out this tune. Great lyrics.
Everything Now (Continued) - A different interpretation of the lead single, slowed down and sadder in tone. I actually like this song a lot. Killer string section. It eventually loops perfectly back into the first song "Everything_Now (Continued)". A cheap gimmick in my eyes, specially since that first song is only 40 seconds in length. Why bother?

i'm so glad i stuck to my gut and kept the pre-order. i went right to Peter Pan then Chemistry and both Infinite Content tracks- expecting to get the worst over with. You know what? I loved all those tracks - and more. Solidly good album - with lots to be discovered still in the sound. Not a great album- but i definitely get what they were going for. i hear the 70's and new orleans and alvino rey - and underlying rock influences too. this band continues to evolve and create music that makes sense to them- and hopefully everyone else- if only eventually for some right now.

Just seen my drunken rambling nonsense post a few pages back apologies, I need to stay the fuck away from the internet after drinking. Anyway, yeah, this is their worst one by far. I bought the album this morning, I'd not heard any songs apart from the first 3/4 released, they were decent I thought but I didn't really like the direction they've taken. I made some ridiculous comparisons in my last post, what I meant to say was the first 3 albums were ones you could sing along to, the last two have been ones to dance along to, more rhythmic, softer, more heavily produced, not really my thing to be honest. But ignoring the direction they've taken I just don't think the songs are very strong here. As others have noted it becomes a bit of a chore to listen to mid way through. I love Creature Comforts and Electric Blue but nothing else really stands out to me. Quite recently this band have put out two 10/10 amazing albums, I expect more from them to be honest. If I start hearing noises about going back to their roots or using a more organic sound when talking about their next album I'll be overjoyed. Needs a bit more time to sink in but right now this is a 6/10 for me

Erm.... I really like this album.
Yeah, it's probably their weakest one but that's not saying much considering what went before as they were all brilliant. It's just an initial reaction but I think it's very good. Maybe it's burdened on a conceptual level whereby that hinders the music rather than elevates it - some songs seem sketchy, keen to drive the point home rather than write a full tune but I'm still finding them worthy of repeat listenings.
8/10 is my initial impression. It might be their Rattle & Hum - a hiccup that leads to a major overhaul, but even then, I'm already liking it better than that album anyway.
