Well, I went to see them, and they were good. They talked a bit about Brexit, paid tribute to Muhammed Ali and covered Heroes, which, to my surprise, didn't get a lot of response. In our square, some dude and I were the only ones singing along. The Scientist was a bit of a low. Chris hit a lot of bum notes on the piano. Fix You was amazing, had to control myself not to burst out in tears. I enjoyed every song, even Hymn For The Weekend. And they had great visuals as well. Plus everyone got a wristband, which lit up in different colours during some songs. There were balloons, there was fireworks.. Songs like Amsterdam didn't get a lot of response from the crowd. A lot of people were also leaving towards the end. Didn't really understand it. All in all it was great. I don't care what anyone says, Coldplay are an amazing live act. What did he say about Brexit?

That it was a strange and sad day for them and that they'd love to come live here. Rhey mentioned a few times how strange and sad it was.

Oh yeah, we also did the wave with the whole arena a couple of times in a row. It went very well and was great.

Coldplay vs Oasis over the last 16 years? No debate. Coldplay wipes the floor with Oasis. I dont consider anything after SOTSOG to be "oasis" really, HC onwards was a new band using the oasis name, beady eye featuring Noel gallagher essentially, still dont understand Noel saying "we tried for years and years to get back to those levels we were at with those first 3 albums but we never made it" and yet he never tried going back to what made those albums great. You are saying Oasis from HC onwards were a band that didn't exist until years later featuring Noel Gallagher? Right ok, there's some revisionism for you.

Remember these guys and their cool Bends era guitar solos? They've fallen a long long way in the studio. Totally different band (for the worse).

Especially in a live setting. No idea why they always have to be super duper poppy all the time in the studio. You won't and will never be liked by everyone. Why alienate your original fans to please the trendy newcomer ones?

Why alienate your original fans to please the trendy newcomer ones? Indeed. I was just thinking about that today, actually. They want to keep up so badly with the trends, they completely "sold out" so to speak, and alienated their old fans in that process. What you get is new fans who like your new stuff, but aren't familiar with/dislike Oldplay. You can't have it both ways. Props to them though. Not many bands are still as relevant as them after so many years. Not saying I agree with it, but they ARE relevant.

Viva was perfect for Coldplay, they unleashed undeniably devastating talent for a pop melody with expansive, layered music and art-rock concepts and themes. They should have just kept getting more and more creative after that, but instead have been doing a sort of artistic moonwalk, just smoothly going backwards.

Are we ever gonna finish our funeral rites for this band?

This might sound somewhat infantile having being inspired by Coldplay playing Yellow at Glastonbury, but music is undoubtedly the closest humans have come to the heavens they imagined. There's something divine about all those people singing together, all so happy and euphoric for no logical reason whatsoever other than soundwaves.

Rumour has it Noel might be joining them on stage for Up&Up.
Although I highly doubt it, I so hope this is the case! That would be awesome.

Honestly, I've seen them 6 times since 2002 and after the VLV tour, something for me changed (and not in a good way). Too many gimmicks and neon lights etc. I know I bash them a lot and they're still a great live act, but they're just not the same live act they once were and that blew me away in the early 2000s. Stick them in a hall without all the shite and they'd probably be great again.

Stayin' Alive!
Barry can still sing surprisingly well for his age, damn! Sounds a bit like an angry chinese grandma though.
